Homelander vs. Omni-Man
Welcome to WatchMojo, and today, we’re pitting the two most cunning, malicious, and bloodthirsty caped crusaders we’ve seen on TV against each other - Homelander from “The Boys” versus Omni-Man from “Invincible”!
Don’t worry, we are only showing and talking about what we’ve seen in the shows, not from the comics. So, no spoilers here unless you haven’t been watching either.
Round 1: Powers
At first, this round might seem kind of strange to include. After all, both Homelander and Omni-Man are supposed to be the token Superman of their respective shows. As such, we already know what most of their powers entail: flight, superspeed, superhuman strength, heat vision, X-ray vision, and almost complete invulnerability. In a sense, they are gods. However, there is one technicality between the two that leads to a decision for this round - the “almost complete invulnerability” part.
See, Homelander might be a man of steel, but that does not make it impossible to take him out. He is not invincible, and one of his powers is that he ages much more slowly than the average human. How does this differ from Omni-Man? Well a Viltrumite can live for thousands of years and suffer no real injuries unless they are exposed to a high frequency of sound. Homelander has the same weakness, plus he is still vulnerable to blunt force, has a slow healing factor and is dependent on leverage in order to access his strength and flight. Also, how in the world can you not see through zinc?
Omni-Man is clearly the bigger man to be afraid of here. Homelander, come back when you can at least see through freakin’ zinc.
WINNER: Omni-Man 1 / Homelander 0
Round 2: Kill Count
Both of our malicious do-gooders spend their time fooling the world into believing they’re their saviors. In reality, the blood from their victims is still dripping from their hands.
Homelander, though a hero to all, has mercilessly slaughtered dozens of people, and it isn’t just limited to criminals. The only man in the sky has used his powers as a means to keep Vought’s public image squeaky clean. From blasting down a politician’s plane to killing a guy with a single punch to the chest, Homelander has quickly shown that he will stoop to the most sinister crimes imaginable if it means keeping everything neat and tidy for Vought.
Whereas Homelander has killed dozens, Omni-Man has a few extra zeroes tacked onto his kill count. We’re not just talking about deaths from collateral damage either. This is a man who has killed his own kind, helped bring an end to entire planets, annihilated an entire team of superheroes, and lest we forget the infamous train scene during his fight with Mark. Yeah, the kill count is in the hundreds of thousands.
There’s no contest in this round as Omni-Man has claimed more bodies than the knock-off Supe, and he probably would have just from the train scene alone.
WINNER: Omni-Man 2 / Homelander 0
Round 3: Deviousness
With great power comes a cunning plan on how to execute nefarious deeds, and both monsters have shown their brains are just as terrifying as their brawn.
Omni-Man arrived on Earth with global conquest in mind. How did he do it? Well, he spent decades posing as a literal guardian of the globe, tricking the entire human race into thinking he was protecting them. In reality, he was assigned to the planet for an invasion. It wasn’t until after the Immortal’s resurrection that he was exposed to the world, and his veil started to slip the second he went after the real Guardians of the Globe. He had a solid plan up until he started offing heroes.
Homelander has a similar method to his madness. On the outside, he poses to the world as Vought’s star pupil, the head honcho of The Seven who could do no wrong and bring no harm. In reality, he does anything he can to protect the public image of Vought, The Seven, and himself. This includes blasting an executive’s private jet out of the sky, coercing someone into doing his bidding by flexing his power, and even letting a plane full of men, women, and children crash into the ocean as a stunt to trick people into rallying behind a political cause. And the worst part? He shows absolutely no remorse, no shred of guilt.
Had Omni-Man not abandoned his mission towards the end of “Invincible’s” first season, perhaps he’d win this one. However, Homelander has such a massive facade he proudly wears that it is downright sickening.
WINNER: Omni-Man 2 / Homelander 1
Round 4: Brutality
Though both have killed many in gruesome ways, the most evil supervillains can be downright vile in how they make their victims suffer. This is arguably where Omni-Man and Homelander truly separate themselves.
Omni-Man is a threat that you wouldn’t expect. Even when he’s playing faux hero, he shows up as a sort of last resort. But just look at everything that happens between the ambush on the Guardians of the Globe all the way to his fight with his son. When people seem suspicious, Omni-Man will pop up when you least expect it. He’s got a pulse on everything and doesn’t need to show his power to keep you quiet. He caught the Guardians off guard, showed up to Art’s unannounced, and turned the GDA’s ambush into a death trap. He does not give you time to process and plan. Omni-Man at your door means you are on his radar and possibly his Wanted list.
As for Homelander, he isn’t one to end his victims quickly. Instead, he makes his presence known before your demise. Again, you have the executive’s plane as an example of how he sort of hung around for a minute before using his heat vision to destroy them. Then, there’s the criminal he and Maeve encountered who Homelander punched so hard that the crook died a slow death. And the way he brushes off the lives of many innocent people in general is stomach-churning. He truly views himself as the most powerful man in existence, and he will relish every second of your suffering.
While Omni-Man does have a sinister tactic to his agenda, it’s Homelander that has us truly terrified every time he shows up. Guessing what he might do next is almost impossible.
WINNER: Omni-Man 2 / Homelander 2
Round 5: Who Would Win in a Fight?
Now, we end with a speculation tradition: who would top who?
As we pointed out in the first round, Omni-Man and Homelander have a similar set of powers. So, if the two were to use something like heat vision, we suspect they would be evenly matched. Superspeed, well, they may both also be evenly matched if we’re not counting Homelander’s need for leverage in order to take full advantage of his speed and strength. Both are also extremely sensitive to certain sounds, but neither of them possesses something like supersonic screams.
But you know why Omni-Man would win this one? Well, it’s because Homelander is essentially another version of The Immortal. Despite being impervious to most objects, he is not invincible let alone immortal. Omni-Man could split him open like a pistachio if he wanted to. If Homelander was to stand a chance, he’d have to find a Kaiju… and even the one seen in “Invincible” still had a hard time bringing down Omni-Man.
Need we say more? It is very clear that Omni-Man would emerge from this fight victorious.
WINNER: Omni-Man 3 / Homelander 2
