Kingdom Hearts 3D - Dream Drop Distance: Everything You Should Know Aww somebody spilled Disney all over my Final Fantasy! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about “Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.” Developed by Square Enix, this is the seventh installment in the popular RPG series and is once again centered on a universe that merges characters from the Disney and Final Fantasy franchises. In this installment, fans are reunited with longtime hero Sora, a cheerful teen with big feet who must save his friends and the universe from the darkness. He does so with the help of his trusty Keyblade: a magical weapon wielded by those with a strong heart that is used to vanquish the heartless and unlock the universe’ many doors. Set after the events of “Kingdom Hearts Re:coded”, Sora and his best friend Riku must embark on “The Mark of Mystery Exam”, a trial located within “The Sleeping Worlds”, a region of the universe trapped in a perpetual state of slumber. Doing so will transform them into Keyblade Masters and give them the strength needed to face off against Xehanort, the series’ main antagonist, a being that seeks to corrupt all hearts. Built to take advantage of the 3DS’ unique 3D abilities and gameplay functions, “Dream Drop Distance” ramps up the action elements the series is known for, and is directly based on the gameplay system found in “Birth by Sleep.” During this dream-filled adventure, players alternate between Sora and Riku via the Drop system. This features a gauge that depletes as characters lose health, leading Sora or Riku to fall asleep and switch to the other automatically. While they work toward the same goal by fighting within the same worlds, the two must explore separate locations, with unique storylines and missions. Players can prevent their characters from falling by slaying enemies to recover HP, or reaching save points. Interestingly, what happens to one character directly affects the other, so while they work together from a distance, they are always connected. Furthermore, these worlds are filled with two unique types of creatures exclusive to the dream world. The first group are the evil Nightmares, which range from cute to fierce monsters that consume good dreams to create bad ones. The good creatures are called Spirits, which you breed; treat as your pets and use to consume nightmares. Spirits join your team and teach you new abilities along the way as you upgrade them. Sora teams up with spirits by doing things like springing on their backs to stomp nightmares. Riku can instead absorbs their powers for a short period of time. Adding to the action gameplay is the ability to interact with the conditionally interact with the environments to perform wall kicks and chain attacks. In terms of environments, the game features Disney worlds never before used in the series: including the grid from Tron Legacy, as well as the worlds from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Fantasia. In terms of added content, the game makes use of AR cards to unlock new Dream Eaters and a fast paced multiplayer game called “Flick Rush”, which pits three of your Dream Eaters against three of your friends. A thrilling set-up for “Kingdom Hearts III”, “Dream Drop Distance.” Is a deep 3D video game experience that will appeal to action RPG lovers and fans of the series alike.
