VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Thanks to its location in Southeast Africa and its gorgeous natural landscapes, Malawi is blessed with a wealth of wildlife reserves and national parks. Many of these offer comfortable and luxurious lodgings to extend your stay. These include the Majete Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park, Fisherman's Rest, the Tongole Wilderness Lodge and the Luwawa Forest Lodge. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com takes a look at the some of the wildlife reserves and national parks found in Malawi.
This African country’s name comes from the word “Maravi,” which means “fire flames.” Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re taking a look at the some of the wildlife reserves and national parks found in Malawi.

Flora and Fauna

Because of its location in Southeast Africa, and its gorgeous natural landscapes, Malawi is blessed with a wealth of wildlife reserves and national parks. Many of these offer comfortable and luxurious lodgings to extend your stay.

Majete Wildlife Reserve

In Malawi’s southwest, you’ll find the Majete Wildlife Reserve in the lower Shire Valley. This reserve is home to a wide variety of African wildlife, including birds, elephants, zebras, antelope, monkeys, hippopotamuses, and more! As if the joy of basking in nature weren’t enough, you’ll also be able to contribute to Malawi’s conservation efforts, as the reserve is protected by African Parks.

Liwonde National Park

Running through the Majete Wildlife Reserve, as well as Liwonde National Park, is the Shire River. Liwonde offers a boat safari down the river that allows you to get even closer to the wildlife. You might even witness a hippo fight! You can also partake in some game viewing by car. And, don’t forget to check out the park’s rhino sanctuary.

Fisherman’s Rest

Also found in the south is Fisherman’s Rest. Nestled in private woodland, this nature reserve consists of a lodge and cottage, which offer a spectacular view of the trees and mountains. Amenities include a pool, outdoor patio and tea rooms. But the highlight of your visit will surely be the many antelope species you are bound to see.

Tongole Wilderness Lodge

Sitting in central Malawi is the beautiful Tongole Wilderness Lodge, where you’ll be enveloped in breathtaking scenery, including woodlands, rugged terrain and the Bua River. With locally-built cottages and rooms decorated with African art, you’ll feel as though you’re in a different world. Feel free to enjoy the first class food while having a romantic lantern-lit dinner or while sitting around a campfire on the decks. However, the wildlife is the true star here, and you might even see some peeking through while you’re on the premises. If not, take a canoe safari where a scout will make sure you get up close and personal with the animals.

Luwawa Forest Lodge

Northern Malawi is home to the Luwawa Forest Lodge. This jewel in the forest is a peaceful and scenic location surrounded by many trees, plants and flowers and is completely man-made. It is known especially for its vibrant birdlife, so it’s perfect for lovers of our feathered friends.

Wildlife Reserves and National Parks

If you want to be close to nature while not being too far from the world’s best comforts, Malawi’s wildlife reserves and national parks are the place to go.
