One Fact for Every Major Character in South Park

One Fact for Every Major Character in South Park
Welcome to WatchMojo, and today were giving you a fun fact about every major character from Comedy Centrals hit animated series.
#1: Stan Marshs Catchphrase Is a Reference
Stan is the everyman of the group and often among the towns most morally sound citizens. He shares many traits with series co-creator (and his voice actor) Trey Parker, including his birthday and the names of his immediate family. But one detail many may miss is that one of Stans catchphrases is also used by another Parker character: Coop from the 1998 film BASEketball.
#2: Kyle Broflovski May Have Diabetes
Arguably the most intelligent of the four boys (if a bit volatile), Kyle frequently clashes with Cartman and stands up for whats right. In Season 4s Cherokee Hair Tampons, Kyles mother mentions he has diabetes a detail never brought up again. It could be a continuity error, but many diehard fans consider Kyles condition canon.
#3: Eric Cartman Is Multilingual
This tiny, intolerant sociopath is smarter than he lets on! Despite being in the fourth grade, Cartman has orchestrated heinous deeds, from torturing Butters to faking disabilities to... well, we all know what happened to Scott Tenorman. Fittingly, Cartman is shown speaking different languages, namely Spanish and German, on multiple occasions.
#4: Kenny McCormick Is the Alter-Ego King (Or Princess)
Kenny might be best known for dying repeatedly, but hes also South Parks most prolific master of disguise. Beyond his superhero identity as Mysterion, hes taken on roles like Princess Kenny in the Stick of Truth arc complete with ultra-kawaii anime vibes. Whether fighting crime or rocking a tiara, Kennys transformations show his secret complexity.
#5: Butters Stotch Is Based on a Prominent Crewmember
Sweet, naive, and endlessly polite, Butters is one of the shows most beloved characters. Hes also based on a real person: Eric Stough, South Parks animation director and longtime friend of the creators. Stoughs behind-the-scenes nickname, Butters, came from little buddy, and his gentle nature shaped the scene-stealer we know and love. Lets just hope the crew treats Eric better than the boys treat Butters.
#6: Randy Marsh Is a Geologist
We know what youre thinking: Stans dad doesnt seem like the scientific type. But when Randy first appeared in Season 1s Volcano, he was introduced as a geologist a scientist who studies the Earths structure. Trey Parker based this on his real-life father, who worked for the U.S. Geological Survey. How Randy remains qualified, though, is anyones guess.
#7: Wendy Testaburger Killed a Teacher
The on-again, off-again girlfriend of Stan, Wendy is known for her ambition, brains, and sweetness. But longtime fans may recall her darkest moment from Season 1, when jealousy drove her to frame substitute teacher Ms. Ellen for terrorism and launch her into the sun. The lesson here is painstakingly clear: Dont (beep) with Wendy Testaburger!
#8: Garrison Tried to Kill Kathie Lee Gifford
The boys teacher as well as the former president of the United States (long story) has never been the most stable individual. One of our first glimpses into Garrisons complex psyche is in Weight Gain 4000, when, aided by Mr. Hat, Garrison aims to end a long-standing feud with celebrity Kathie Lee Gifford. Things only get weirder from there, but this early episode sets the tone.
#9: Chefs Death Is Linked to Behind-the-Scenes Beef
A respected voice of reason for the towns kids and adults alike, Jerome Chef McElroy was one of South Parks most iconic characters. Sadly, Isaac Hayes, who voiced Chef, left the show following health issues, after his Scientology entourage allegedly made a statement on his behalf after the show's infamous episode poking fun at the Church of Scientology. In response, the creators depicted Chef as brainwashed by a cult then gave him a brutal onscreen death. Not exactly a fond farewell.
#10: Mr. Mackeys First Name Is Currently Unknown
South Park Elementarys guidance counselor has been around since the beginning; he even gets his own song in the movie. But for all his screen time, one detail remains a mystery: his first name. Until the show reveals it, Mr. Mackeys full identity remains one of the towns lingering mysteries, mkay?
#11: Sharon Marshs Maiden Name Is Up for Debate
Stan and Shelleys mom is usually portrayed as more grounded than most South Park parents. But one question persists: her maiden name. Although it was once given as Kimble, Stans Uncle Jimbo is confirmed to be Sharons brother, implying that her original last name is actually Kern. Go figure.
#12: Sheila Broflovski Is the 1999 Movies Antagonist
Since her debut, Kyles strong-willed mom has never been shy about what offends her. In South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, Sheila voiced by the late, great Mary Kay Bergman leads a crusade against vulgarity that escalates into an all-out war with Canada. Her moral panic satirizes real-world media censorship and mob mentality.
#13: Gerald Broflovski Is a Troll
Kyle and Ikes dad always seemed like a hardworking, ordinary lawyer. So it was a massive twist when, in Season 20, he was revealed to be an internet troll. Thus began Geralds transformation from solid dad to conniving, sadistic antagonist. After the Skankhunt incident, we wouldnt blame his sons for seeing him differently.
#14: Jimmy Valmer Initially Went to Another School
This endlessly optimistic aspiring comedian was introduced in a Season 5 episode as a one-off rival for Timmy. But the creators loved Jimmy so much they kept him around. Thanks to his good nature and hilarious stand-up routines, Jimmy quickly became a fan favorite.
#15: Tolkien Blacks Name Was Originally Token
Nothing like a good retcon! One of South Parks wealthiest kids, Tolkien Black debuted in Season 4. For 25 seasons, fans believed his name was a joke about being the token Black kid. But in Season 25s The Big Fix, its revealed hes actually named after Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien. Nice gaslighting, Matt and Trey!
#16: Liane Cartman Is Based on Trey Parkers Ex-Fiancée
Everyone knows Cartmans mom, Liane, is notoriously promiscuous but did you know her name has real-life roots? Liane is named after Trey Parkers former fiancée, who allegedly cheated on him. Parker even used the name earlier for a horse in Cannibal! The Musical. Its classic Parker and Stone: turning personal heartbreak into dark, biting humor in a way only this show could pull off.
