Ghostface is the iconic killer of "Scream" who's popped up in more than few video games, too. Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we're taking a look at 8 times Ghostface stalked and ambushed us in our own games! Our list of Ghostface cameos includes “Among Us” (2018), “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” (2020), “Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise” (2012), “Mortal Kombat 1” (2023), and more!
8 Times Ghostface Invaded Video Games
Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at 8 times Ghostface stalked and ambushed us in our own games! This is why we don’t play our games alone anymore.
“Scre4m” (2011)
While Jason and Freddy got to enjoy video game adaptations back when they first debuted, Ghostface didn’t make his appearance until 2011. Yeah, “Scream” went a full fifteen years without getting a video game adaptation, and the first one we got was a mobile game based on the fourth movie. “Scre4m” lets players take control of Ghostface and run around Woodsboro claiming victims left and right. So long as you stayed out of the cops’ sight, you could finish off your victims with a few simple swipes on your phone. Unfortunately, the game has been delisted for ages and will likely never return.
“Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise” (2012)
Though Ghostface himself does not make an actual appearance here, Naughty still managed to pay tribute to one of the most iconic villains in horror. Shortly after launch, “Panic in Paradise” received a small collection of costumes based on Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Batman (for some reason), and of course, Ghostface. The trailer for the Ghostface costume even recreated the opening scene from the first “Scream” movie! And yes, you can use the same knife as the notorious Woodsboro killer.
“Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen” (2015)
While this may not be an official game, “Terrordrome” is still a game worth mentioning here. Inspired by the brutal nature of “Mortal Kombat”, “Terrordrome” pits almost every horror mascot against each other in a fight to the death - Michael, Chucky, Ash Williams, and yes, even Ghostface. The crazed stalker even gets the honor of being the first chapter in the game’s story mode! Along with typically stabbing moves and leaps, Ghostface can cause stage lights to fall from the top of the screen in addition to calling in a duplicate Ghostface to help him hold his foe in place.
“Dead by Daylight” (2016)
Ghostface’s inclusion in “Dead by Daylight” was a bit of an odd occurrence on account of some legalities. Behaviour Interactive was only allowed to use the mask and had to make their own character, which is why we have Danny Johnson. Danny comes with the power to stalk his victims from the shadows, and if he stalks a Survivor long enough, he can down them in a single hit. The only way to prevent this is to spot Danny and look at him long enough to pull him out of his Night Shroud ability. For the longest time, Danny was regarded as one of the best Killers in the game, but after some reworks around 2023-2024, he’s not as oppressive as he once was.
“Among Us” (2018)
In a sense, “Among Us” is a lot like “Scream” - friends getting together only to discover one of them is a cold-blooded killer. In 2022, developer Innersloth announced a collaboration event where players could earn their very own Ghostface mask. It became one of the most sought-after cosmetics in the game until the event ended after a month. Ghostface returned to “Among Us” in 2023 as a means to promote the sixth movie. And this time, players could get a mask AND a set of robes for their character. If you missed out on the second event, well, guess you’ll have to cross your fingers for another event when “Scream VII” finally arrives.
“HITMAN World of Assassination” (2016)
Okay, we might be cheating with this one, but the similarities are too on-the-nose to ignore. Unfortunately, Ghostface does not appear in 2016’s “Hitman” nor its sequels. However, you can don a costume that is eerily similar in appearance. Agent 47 can wear a costume of a fictional character known as “the Super Fan”, complete with a bloodied mask, white robes, and a face just as haunting as Ghostface. There are even two challenges associated with the costume where you’ll have to don the outfit and eliminate Craig Black, “The Author”, in specific ways.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” (2020)
“Call of Duty” has seen a ton of strange crossovers, ones that would never come to mind when you think “first-person military shooter”. As part of the franchise’s first Halloween event, “The Haunting”, “Black Ops Cold War” added Ghostface as a new Operator and even included him as part of a limited time game mode called “Ghosts of Verdansk”. Not only was he the announcer for the game mode, but if a player picked up one of the many phones scattered across the map, they would receive a special message from Ghostface depending on the Operator they were playing as. On top of that, if a player reached a specific fear level, they were subjected to hallucinations of Ghostface as well as various visuals and sound effects.
“Mortal Kombat 1” (2023)
At the time of this video, Ghostface is not available to play as just yet. However, his inclusion was known by most of the “Mortal Kombat” community before he was even revealed. In September 2023, a reputable leaker revealed that Ghostface and the T-10000 from the “Terminator” franchise were coming to “Mortal Kombat 1” as a part of Kombat Pack 2. Then, in June 2024, “Mortal Kombat 1” was datamined and shown to have audio files of Roger L. Jackson using his voice for Ghostface. But in July 2024, we finally got official confirmation at his inclusion, and it looks like he’ll have a second Ghostface helping him as an assist.
