For this list, we'll be exclusively focusing on pairs of male characters that have, or at one time shared an inseparable bond. We’re excluding characters that are actual brothers or are simply friends who lack that homo-erotic bond bros try to so hard to deny.
#10: Mugen and Jin
“Samurai Champloo” (2004-05)
Sometimes it's what you have in common with someone that makes you best buds, but the differences that bring you together; and Mugen and Jin share hardly a thing outside of their love of swords. Yet one small girl's mission to locate a samurai who smells of sunflower seeds brought these two warriors together. Throughout the series the two wandering swordsmen are constantly at each other's throats despite their deep-rooted respect for one another, which they'd of course have no other way.
#9: Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro
“One Piece” (1999-)
The most genuine relationship a pirate can ever form is the one he has with his fellow semen. After being rescued from an unfitting execution at the hand of Captain Morgan, Zoro not only swore his allegiance to Luffy and the Star Hat Pirates, but his lifelong friendship as well. Zoro has since remained Luffy's most loyal crewmate and has willingly put Luffy’s goals ahead of his own dream of becoming the world’s best swordsman. Their bond, however runs far deeper than captain and crew mate, as they've both display the utmost confidence in each other regardless of the situation.
#8: Ciel and Sebastian
“Black Butler” (2008-09)
A butler's duty doesn't only include upholding a household, but safeguarding his body as well. A contract signed in blood hasn't made the bond between Ciel Phantomhive and his demon butler Sebastien any less valid. In agreeing to help Ciel seek revenge against the cult group that enslaved him, Sebastian has become increasingly sympathetic to the young Earl of Phantomhive, and wasnts to see him as happy and comfortable as possible. Underneath Ciel's cold exterior he feels just as tethered to the demonic butler, as he understands he'd be lost without him.
#7: Roy Mustang and Maes Hughes
“Fullmetal Alchemist” series (2003-10)
Relentlessly annoying yet ever loyal to each other, the friendship between these two military officers is undeniably charming. Beginning with their earliest days as enlisted soldiers and following their carriers as State Military Officers, the two make every action in tandem with each other, even when it seems like their goals are contrary. Mustang’s rigid demeanour is the polar opposite of Hughes extroverted and fun loving attitude, which often causes Mustang to lose his patience. This is all for show however, as Hughes secretly supports Mustang’s ambitions for the position of Fuhrer.
#6: Spike and Jet
“Cowboy Bebop” (1998-99)
The galaxy can be a lonely place for just one space cowboy. Spike and Jet seemed almost fated to meet after we learn about both of their troubled pasts. The desire to escape their twisted lives and the allure of a big payout led these two to team up and collaborate as bounty hunters. For a good three years Spike and Jet worked alone from their spaceship, the Bebop, before taking on a couple more members. The two appear to perfectly understand one another more than they'd care to admit, and have established an unspoken relationship that goes beyond their business.
#5: Negi and Fate
“Negima! Magister Negi Magi” (2005)
Rivals often highly revere their opposition; but sometimes they have a weird way of showing it. The two young wizards are locked in a battle that may determine the future of the magic world. Negi's magical talent would later interest Fate and have him soon completely abandoning his sworn mission in order to help his counterpart see his full potential. The rivalry between the two boys is something that predates their generation, as Negi's father has defeated both Fate's creator and two incarnations in combat. A feat Fate hopes to see Negi surpass. If that’s not love we don’t know what is.
#4: Akihisa and Yuuji
“Baka & Test” series (2010)
What's a class clown without his partner in crime? Akihisa has established himself as quite possibly the least capable student in all of Fumizuki Academy, and with company like Yuuji Sakamoto we're starting to understand why. While Yuuji sits in the same underachieving class as Akihisa, he's been recognized to be vastly more intelligent than he lets on, making him the brains of the operation. Despite his treatment of Akihisa, Yuuji wouldn't ever let anyone take advantage of him, because... well- that's his job and these two are as traditional as bros can get.
#3: Gon and Killua
“Hunter X Hunter” (1999-2001)
Adventures just aren't the same without your best bud. Gon meets Killlua during the first phase of his Hunter Exam and instantly bonds with him due to their similar interests. Coming from two very different backgrounds has allowed the two boys to discover many things about each other, which consequently only serves to make their friendship that much stronger. While becoming Hunters may result in taking them down two very different paths, they're both dedicated to each other’s holes, I mean goals.
#2: Guts and Griffith
“Berserk” (1997-98)
Soldiers can be expendable, but a true comrade is something no soldier can live without. After besting Guts in combat and recruiting him into his army, Griffith takes a very unique and personal interest in Guts. At first Guts is looking for nothing besides someone to fight for, but as the years go by, Griffith helps Guts realize that fighting for a dream is the only thing worth living for. However, The confidence that Guts and Griffith put into each other not only made others around them enviable, but ironically threatens to put their close relationship at risk.

In their early years, Simon admired Kamina for his tenacity and courage, and eventually the two became inseparable, and regularly refer to each other as brothers. In their attempts to one day reach the surface world, Simon and Kamina find a lot more than they bargained for, and it’s their friendship that keeps them in tact, rending all other bromances limp by comparison.
