This is exactly how every great adventure starts Himura guarantees us a great ride.
#7: “One Piece” (1999-)
What better place to find adventure than on the high seas? Its time to join Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in the outrageous tale that is One Piece. From the fantastic characters to their overly ridiculous escapades, Luffy is swept up in in his quest to become the king of pirates. Perhaps too lofty a goal, as Luffy’s adventures across the great blue ocean are never done, as the show has been on for sixteen years and counting. How come nobody in anime can ever settle for second best?
#6: “Berserk” (1997-98)
Cleaving right down the middle of our list is Berserk, a dark medieval fantasy series about mercenary swordsman Guts. We follow his life as a young mercenary recruit, to a life thrust upon him as a demon slayer. With tragic, memorable characters and some of the most tangible action and violence we’ve ever seen, Berserk undoubtedly leaves an impression on anyone who sees it. Admittedly the series has a fairly weak beginning, but with little exposition and layer upon layer of backstory and motivation, Berserk is so much more than meets the eye.
#5 “Bleach” (2004-12)
If you are looking for something a little darker, the adventures of these Shinigami have got you covered. In this lengthy adventure fantasy series, we join freshly enlisted Shinigami, also known as a Soul Reaper, Ichigo Kurosaki as he travels between our Earth, the world of the Hollows, and the collective of Shinigami known as the Soul Society. With giant weapons, almost non-stop action, and an interesting story beneath it all, its hard not to get lost in the Soul Society ourselves.
#4: “Attack on Titan” (2013-)
Many of the best adventures take us to the ends of the earth, but this hit series takes us to the edge of humanity itself. In this darkest of fantasy adventures, we see human kind brought to the brink of extinction by hostile, massive humanoids called Titans. Ready for non-stop and intense action? Being one of the few fantasy series to keep mature themes like the horror of war in the forefront, Attack on Titan in a must watch for not only anime fans, but adventure fans alike.
#3: “Dragon Ball Z” (1989-96)
Nostalgia hits home for many anime fans, and this list in no exception. For those 1% who don’t know what “Dragonball” is, we follow overpowered Saiyan Goku as he, while accompanied by friends and family and defeat villains that threaten the Earth itself. Fun, fast paced and exciting, Dragon Ball Z served as many people’s gateway into anime. Lets just hope Dragon Ball Super lives up to our lofty expectations.
#2: “Cowboy Bebop” (1998-99)
Its time for us to leave the boundaries of the Earth behind. In this well known space cowboy epic, we join Spike Spiegel and his rather eccentric company of misfits as they hunt for bounties throughout the galaxy in their ship the Bebop. In the mood to catch a new bounty or stop some terrorist? No? That’s fine, as the crew of the Bebop have plenty of misadventures that will keep us entertained for decades. Don’t take out word for it? Just ask fans and critics alike.
