#10: Yui Hirasawa

“K-On” (2009-10)
There’s one in every band. While her airheaded nature and blunt personality could easily come across as annoying, Yui more than makes for it by being an endless source of optimism and hope for the rest of the Light Music Club. Never played an instrument before? Nervous about playing in from of a live audience? No worries, just go with the flow and practise until you’re anime Jimmy Hendrix. The belief she has in herself and her friends is on the border of being ludicrous, and yet Yui always finds a way to make lemonade out of the worst high school situations.

#9: Robert E.O. Speedwagon

“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” (2012-16)
Seriously, how did such a sweet guy ever have a career as a criminal? Upon their first encounter, Speedwagon set upon the wandering Jonathon Joestar with every intention of killing and robbing him, armed with a bladed hat no less. However, after seeing the full breadth of Jonathan’s gentlemanliness, he was so impressed that he immediately became his bestie. From there, Speedwagon essentially became everyone’s favourite uncle, aiding the future generations of JoJo in anyway he could, whether it be with long, endearing speeches of a shit tonne of money. Thanks Uncle Speedwagon!

#8: Nia

“Gurren Lagann” (2007)
From naïve child all the way to the galactic princess of your dreams, Nia managed to fill the hole in Simon’s heart following the death of his big bro Kamina. Innocent in every facet imaginable, she eventually became Simon’s reason for continuing the fight against both Lordgenome and the Anti-Spiral. Despite knowing she wasn’t long for this world, she still allowed herself to find true happiness by getting hitched to the universe’s greater driller – if ya know what I mean. Don’t look into her eyes for too long, it’s so beautiful that it hurts!

#7: Mayuri Shiina

“Steins;Gate” (2011)
Who cares if she has no idea what the plot of her own anime is, have you seen that smile? That thing could light up the blackness of space! As Okabe’s childhood friend, Mayuri is the only one who’s stood by through thick and thin, even when his mad scientist routine went all the way up to eleven. She’s a precious peach who looks for the joyful things in life, never giving up on the people she loves and generally makes you want to break out into song upon meeting her. No wonder Okabe was happy to risk it all just to save her!

#6: Ushio Okazaki

“Clannad: After Story” (2008-09)
All things considered, Tomoya was certainly blessed when it came to the ladies in his life. His beloved Nagisa was a sweetie who helped steer him in the right direction while simultaneously stealing his heart. Then they made this bundle of joy, a child who will give you such incomparable feels that her every action will light up your world. Yes, Ushio is pretty much the most adorable child character to ever grace anime…which probably explains why her fate reduced so many to Habertears. Don’t you do me like this anime!

#5: Chi

“Chobits” (2002)
Nope, nope, nope, you are not going to get me like this! I’m not falling for that tired old trope of having an adorable robot learn about the good and the ill of humanity, and as such philosophically become a human herself, yet forever denied acceptance due to her cybernetic origins, all the while further blurring the line between man and machine thanks to the love she feels towards the one boy who saved her! …Shit, I’m totally falling for it. Just remember folks, no matter how advanced Siri becomes, she hasn’t got a pinch on Chi. Just look at those ears!

#4: Mob

“Mob Psycho 100” (2016)
He’s the most powerful esper to ever live. If he wanted to, he could vaporise everything just because someone made fun of his dorky haircut. Yet he doesn’t. Want to know why? Because Mob has a heart of gold. Despite the fact he has to restrain his emotions to prevent himself from reducing civilisation to dust, he still manages to come across as humble and well-mannered young man who just wants to make some friends. Sure, he partners up with the slimiest con-man to ever live and unleashes his psychic abilities every other episode, but he’s still our special snowflake.

#3: Eru Chitanda

“Hyouka” (2012)
Her curiosity is unquenchable, her love for life is all engrossing, and she has a face that is so delightful its practically transcendent. Say hello to the classic literature club’s most energetic member. While she can seem a tad on the ditzy side, Eru’s passion for solving mysteries with Oreki and company is all but infectious. Honestly, she’s so bubbly and happy-go-lucky that it almost makes me angry. Why should she be the only one who can look to the future with such innocent hope that it makes the scenery change?!

#2: Kaworu Nagisa

“Neon Genesis Evangelion” (1995-96)
Asuka’s got the tsundere personality down to a tee… perhaps to a fault. Rei possesses a truly serene spirit but’s… also likely cloned from our hero’s dead mother. So who does that leave Shinji with? None other than Kaworu, the one-off EVA pilot who helped him through his darkest hour, who spoke to him like an actual person, who made him feel cherished for once in his life, and who made the most obvious bedroom eyes ever in the history for fuzzy-bumping. We don’t care if this guy was an Angel! He was 100 percent husbando material!

#1: Todd Haberkorn (1982-)
With a smile that brighter than a thousand suns and a voice smoother than Vic Mignogna’s eyebrows, this God among actors has truly proven himself as – what? What do you mean I’m not the top pick? Who else other than Todd Haberkorn could possibly be –

#1: Sawako Kuronuma

“Kimi ni Todoke” (2009-11)
Isolated for most of her school life given an unfortunate resemblance to the creepy villain from The Ring, you’d expect Sawako to be mightily upset given her abysmal social standing. Only, she isn’t. She’s beyond the pale of generous and never wishes to be a burden to anyone, even if it means forcing herself to stay away from the one guy she loves unconditionally. You understand people? She’s an absolute saint! An animated goddess! You’d better treat her right Kazehaya, or I shall bring the wrath of Haberheaven down upon you! Mark my words.
