Top 10 Psychopathic Anime Characters

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Psychopathic Characters in Anime

For this list, we’ll be looking at the characters in anime that best fit the profile of a psychopath, as well as characters that are not confirmed psychopaths, but who display psychopathic traits.

Which anime characters do YOU think are the most psychopathic? Let us know in the comments below.

#10: Teru Mikami

“Death Note” (2006-07)

When it comes to justice, this prosecutor’s views could not be anymore black and white. With Light’s rise as the serial killer Kira, Mikami became a devout follower of his will. His faith and devotion is so great that Light even entrusts him with his Death Note, which Mikami uses to purge those he deems “evil.” However, while Light kills people to prevent crimes, Mikami kills for the sake of enacting divine retribution and is even willing to kill innocent people if it means fulfilling a greater goal. When Light is revealed as Kira and shot during a struggle, Mikami is unable to accept this and creates a diversion by stabbing himself to death with a pen. Talk about fanatical loyalty.

#9: Rena Ryūgū

“Higurashi When The Cry” series (2006-)

When you live in a small town where murders and alternate timelines are commonplace, Rena is the last person you’d want to be around. At first glance, she seems like any other school girl with an obsession for cute things. However, when you factor in her vengeful personality, as well as extreme paranoia and fits of violence resulting from the Hinamizawa Syndrome, you’ve got a psychopathic girl capable of committing grizzly murders. One thing’s for sure, once she brings out her trusty cleaver, it’s a clear sign to run as far away from her as possible.

#8: Ryuunosuke Uryuu

“Fate/Zero” (2011-12)

A serial killer with a preference for targeting women and children, Ryuunosuke is as despicable as they come. With his twisted views about God, this psychopath takes great joy in watching his victims suffer and seeks to make their deaths as cruel and as exciting as possible. After accidentally summoning the servant Caster, Ryuunosuke’s killing spree reaches even more horrific levels as he is able to use Caster’s magic to kidnap scores of innocents and force them to suffer fates worse than death. All for the sake of satisfying his desire to achieve the greatest “cool” possible.

#7: Hiro Shishigami

“Inuyashiki” (2017)

Who could have ever imagined that a normal highschooler could literally become an unstoppable killing machine? Following his death in an explosion from a UFO, Hiro’s body is remade into a cyborg and obtains superpowers. Believing himself to now be invincible and no longer human, Hiro decides that the only way to make him feel human again is to kill others. Without concern for the pain and suffering of his victims, Hiro orchestrates a massive car wreck, as well as kills entire families. While he does attempt to stop his murderous ways, the deaths of those close to him by the police leads him to declare war on Japan, sending him on a rampage.

#6: Himiko Toga

“My Hero Academia” (2016-)

Out of all the members of the League of Villains, Himiko definitely stands out as one of the most unsettling. Underneath her smile and cheery disposition, Himiko possesses a warped mind and frequently indulges her sadistic tendencies that often results in someone dying. One of the most dangerous aspects about her is her warped perceptions on love and friendship. In her mind, Himiko seeks to actually become the person she loves, a feat that is actually possible for her to achieve using her quirk which activates after she drinks a person’s blood. With her quirk and phenomenal acting skills, it’s almost impossible to identify this vampiric slasher/stalker until it's too late.

#5: Hidan

“Naruto Shippuden” (2007-17)

Growing up despising the idea of peace, the warmongering Hidan turned to a life of crime and slaughter which inevitably led him to become a follower of Jashin. While experimenting with some secret techniques, Hidan became an immortal which he used to maximize the level of death and carnage he caused in the name of his faith. Thanks to his immortality, Hidan is able to use a powerful jutsu to take any damage inflicted to himself and also inflict onto anyone whose blood he’s consumed. In the heat of battle, this sadistic ninja derives sick pleasure from inflicting intense pain to his enemies.

#4: Hisoka Morow

“HunterxHunter” (2011-14)

Underneath Hisoka’s clown-like exterior, lies a blood thirsty predator. This battle fanatic is obsessed with fighting and killing powerful opponents, and experiences a disturbing sense of euphoria from the very idea of killing a potentially strong fighter. His selfish desire to kill has led him to manipulate others to satisfy his own desires, including the likes of the Phantom Troupe all of whom are dangerous killers in their own right. Sure he may have spared and helped good people such as Gon and Killua, but that’s only because he’d rather not waste the opportunity for a good fight. Once unleashed, his bloodlust is strong enough to paralyze any normal human with fear and he’ll kill anyone near him to satisfy it.

#3: Johan Liebert

“Monster” (2004-05)

The titular monster of the series, Johan Liebert is infamously considered one of the deadliest serial killers in all of anime. Along with his intellect and charisma, Johan is also a master manipulator. Using these skills, Johan is able to identify a person’s weaknesses and use them to carry out his twisted desires. This ruthless psychopath forces his targets to endure the pain of intense loss and sorrow to the point where they take their own lives. Whether it’s a single person or a legion of people, Johan can draw out anyone’s inner monster, regardless of age and without any concern for whom may get hurt in the process.

#2: Junko Enoshima

“Danganronpa: The Animation” (2013)

What could have driven this young fashionista to kill other people, even her own flesh and blood? The answer: sheer absolute boredom. Since childhood, only one thing has ever brought Junko any pleasure or excitement was despair. Junko constantly seeks to indulge in despair whenever she can, even if it involves killing others in the process. This highly unstable and erratic femme fatale will go to any lengths to experience the purest and most ultimate form of despair imaginable. Even if it means causing her own destruction, Junko will do anything and kill anyone to fulfill her own selfish ambitions.

#1: Yoshikage Kira

“Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable” (2016)

The Jojo’s adventures may be bizarre, but when it comes to Yoshikage Kira, he’s downright disturbing. Despite only desiring to live a peaceful life, Kira is actually a remorseless serial killer with a fetish for severed female hands. Along with his intelligence, Kira also utilizes his stand Killer Queen to kill anyone that gets in his way and erase any evidence of his crimes. For the sake of preserving his peaceful life, Kira will kill as many people as it takes, regardless of the pain and suffering he causes along the way.
