#10: “Platinum End” (2021)
There’s no denying that the creative and artistic minds behind Death Note and Bakuman are some of the best in their fields. Naturally, the idea of them returning to their supernatural roots, this time with a focus on angels, death, and replacing god, sounds like a slam dunk. That being said, given the shakiness of the manga’s reception, we’re a little apprehensive on this one, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t hoping for this adaptation to blow us away. At the very least, it’s bound to outdo Future Diary on the old “win a battle royale, become a god” narrative!
#9: “The Vampire Dies in No Time” (2021)

Madhouse seem to be stepping up their game during the last half of the year, since they’re throwing their eggs into some rather polished looking baskets. We’re certainly leaning towards this comedic venture that sees a vampire forced to become a vampire hunter’s roommate, made all the worse by the fact he can die from the slightest thing. So, we’ve got an uber-weak vampire trying to live his unlife as a gamer while constantly meeting his demise again and again in the most hilarious ways possible. Oh, and its being helmed by the director of Hunter x Hunter. Sign us up!
#8: “Mieruko-chan” (2021)
Putting the horror back into horror comedy, this girl’s hellish life is looking like it will be an absolute riot! Cursed with the power to see spirits and other haunting creatures, Miko spends her days doing her darndest to try and ignore the monsters that plague her life for fear one will snatch her up if she acknowledges their existence. While it certainly sounds dark, the manga is highly praised for blending the visceral designs of its creatures with the hilarity of Miko’s attempts to avoid them. Here’s hoping they don’t skip on the nightmare fuel.
#7: “My Senpai is Annoying” (2021)

Romantic comedies have been on the rise in modern anime, and we’re all for it! As long as the characters are great, the laughs are non-stop and the couples are earnest in their affections, you’ve got a chance to put a spin on the classic tropes. From the looks of things, we’re in for a wholesome office romance between a short tsundere and her lovable giant of a boss. From the outset, it looks like a mesh of some of rom-com anime’s greatest hits, so chances are we’re going to fall for it one way or another!
#6: “Ranking of Kings” (2021)

Come on Wit Studio, if you keep changing the anime landscape with bangers like these then nobody is going to be able to catch up! Vivy obviously wasn’t enough for them, since they’re also spearheading this delightful little project. With an art style that harkens back to the days of Ghibli, the story of a deaf, mute yet optimistic boy as he endeavours to become king looks set to pluck at the heartstrings. The charm practically oozes out each frame, with diverse character designs and a beautiful fairy tale aesthetic. Consider us enchanted.
#5: “Blue Period” (2021)
Finding your passion in life can be exhilarating, even if it’s something as contemplative as painting. This one has a lot of buzz around it, not only due to it being a great character study, but also because the anime doesn’t appear to be skipping out on the story’s most vital feature; the art itself. Can’t have an anime about high quality artwork and not bring your A-Game when it comes to the visuals, and from what we’ve seen so far, looks like they’ve got it covered!
#4: “Digimon Ghost Game” (2021)

Holy crap, they’re actually doing something new with this franchise?! Digimon Adventure 2020 may have been a return to roots, but for those looking for something to shake up the system, this looks like an intriguing next step. From what hints we’ve been given, it appears to be taking a lot more inspiration from the series’ darker entries such as Tamers. If they stick the landing and give us some good fights, then we might actually have a worthy successor on our hands! About time Tai got out of the spotlight anyway.
#3: “86” Season Two (2021)

So, I think we can all agree; part one…yeah, pretty depressing time. Following the departure of Undertaker and the original members of Spearhead Squadron, it once again falls to Lena to put a stop to both the encroaching Legion armies as well as the racial divide between 86s and the Alba. Now with a new crew and even more political turmoil to deal with, hopefully this continuation will put pedal to metal and double up on what made the initial series such a fun ride.
#2: “Komi Can’t Communicate” (2021)
Please don’t screw it up, please don’t screw it up! As one of the most beloved manga series being published to this day, there’s a lot of expectation on this upcoming portrayal of our lord and saviour Komi; the seemingly aloof popular student…who in actuality just has trouble talking to people despite her wanting to make friends. The trailers have certainly given us hope, what with them seemingly nailing Komi’s infinite cuteness, kitty-kat form, as well as unexpected giga-chad Tadano. Won’t be long now before the cult of Komi will well and truly cover the globe. #1: “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” Season Two (2021)
None of us were prepared for just quite how good this series proved itself to be. The godfather of isekai, meticulously brought to life with next level animation, delighted us with its unconventional hero’s journey, top tier world building, and blisteringly fast-paced fight scenes. Good job we didn’t have to wait long for the second half. Isolated in another part of his new, monster-filled world, Rudeus must make a living as part of a three-person guild. Hard to tell what we’re more excited for; more magical confrontations, or best girl Ghislaine.
