Needless to say, this one is going to be a scorcher! Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Summer 2019.

For this list, we'll be looking at the new properties and sequel seasons that we're most hyped about going into the summer. Prepare to feel the heat!

#10: “Isekai Cheat Magician” (2019)

Also in:

Top 20 Isekai Anime

The Isekai-apocalypse is still upon us with zero signs of slowing down. Sticking with the more traditional set up, our titular cheaters are none other than two high schoolers who are – what else – transported to a fantasy world and somehow imbued with unbelievable magical power. This is shaping up to be this season’s Wise Man’s Grandchild, though we’re hoping the dynamic between our two leads will at the very least elevate itself beyond that little misstep. Ah well, bring on the guilds, simplistic magic system and rest of the sexy cast!

#9: “Astra Lost in Space” (2019)

Just when you thought it was safe to go space-camping. After being transported several thousand light-years across the cosmos, nine teens are forced to band together in order to make their way back home, their only hope being that of the titular spaceship Astra. As opposed to flesh-hungry aliens or intergalactic wars, the vastness of space serves as the central obstacle here, offering a much more intriguing and purer example of a sci-fi adventure. With survival being the number one priority, we have high hopes for this interstellar wannabe.

#8: “Do You Like Your Mom? Her Normal Attack is Two Attacks at Full Power” (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Anime of 2019

We’ve had skeletons. We’ve had slimes. What else could the Isekai genre possibly throw at us this far down the line? How about "in a fantasy world with your ridiculously hot, non-blood related, over-powered mother.” Because of course. Honestly, this is either going to be the greatest thing ever or beyond bottom of the barrel. An overly doting, busty mother figure who will undoubtedly become a morally questionable yet legally acceptable romance option for our confused lead, who has the power to melt mountains with her newfound magical abilities. We won’t deny it, we can’t wait to see how this one turns out one way or another!

#7: “A Certain Scientific Accelerator” (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Anime of Winter 2019

He’s been an antagonist, a side character, even a glorified cameo in someone else’s spinoff. Now, finally, the vector manipulator is going to get his due as the star in his own show. Now cast into the role of unlikely protector, it falls to the most powerful esper in Academy City to protect the adorable Last Order from the clutches of a new, sinister organisation, all the while dealing with a new companion and coming to terms with who he truly is. Yeah, he may have butchered a few Misaka clones in his time but come on! Surely his chances at getting himself redemption and a waifu can’t be worse than Touma’s!

#6: “Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest” (2019)

That’s right people, it’s an Isekai trifecta! After all, the only thing more engrossing than a story about travelling to another fantasy world, is one riddled with betrayal and vengeance! Don’t worry if you’re getting Shield Hero flashbacks, given the light novel’s status, there’s a lot of hype around this one, hopefully to the point where it can transcend such a premise with an abundance of flashy battles and awesomely adorable sidekicks. Admit it, you were ready to give this one a miss, and then you saw the bunny girl with a giant hammer!

#5: “The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II” (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Anime Fights of 2019

It just wouldn’t be mainstream anime without another addition to the Fate-verse. Granted, this is far from another Holy Grail War, and mercifully not another loli-filled venture like Prisma Illya. Instead, this series is going full on Sherlock by focusing on the antics of master mage El-Melloi II, known to Fate/Zero fans as Waver Velvet, he seeks to solve a series of supernatural mysteries popping up around London. The shift in genre and return of such an iconic character is more than enough to pique our interest, though we’re pretty sure Rider would be adamant that his former Master got a hair cut!

#4: “Fire Force” (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Fire Power Users in Anime (ft. Todd Haberkorn)

The reasons why you should be fired up for this series are twofold. On the one hand, you’ve got a ridiculously shounen premise about a group of fire-fighters who use supernatural flames to combat hellish creatures called Infernals. On the other, it is adapted from the new manga series by the same mastermind behind Soul Eater. If his previous titles are anything to go by, we can look forward to bombastic characters, crazy-ass fight scenes, and a lot of things going boom. The lead is a guy who literally fights fire with fire-filled feet!

#3: “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” Season 2 (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Summer 2018

Jeez, took them long enough! Do you know how long we were waiting to see more of Hestia’s – uh – more of Bell and his ongoing, dungeon-crawling exploits? From the looks of things, Familia Myth looks set to give fans plenty more of what they wanted. More of Bell being the oblivious nice guy as he grows stronger and stronger with every monster slain, additional adventurers joining the party who more than likely will want to get their hand on Bell’s Master Sword, and of course, more from the pint-sized yet oh so radiant goddess who really needs to find a new tailor!

#2: “Dr. Stone” (2019)

Also in:

Top 10 Anime of Summer 2019

The manga is practically holy text by this point, and from the previews we’ve been given, this adaptation looks like its ready to shake the anime landscape to its core. After all of humanity is turned to stone, it falls to genius high schooler Senku and his uber-strong bestie Taiju to revive and rebuild civilisation with the power of SCIENCE! Unfortunately, others aren’t so keen on bringing back the old world, and plan to use this new stone age as an opportunity to create a better future free of adults. Trust us, this is one is going to rock your socks off.

#1: “Vinland Saga” (2019)

Take the savagery and darkness of Berserk, swap out the demons and death knights for Vikings, set it during the Danish invasion of England, sprinkle on some larger than life characters with a talent for bloodshed, and you’ve got yourself a historical fantasy that demands to be viewed. With its crisp animation from the same studio as Attack on Titan and promise of amazing battle sequences, and you’ve got the makings of a brutally beautiful series that just might manage to live up to the scale and scope of its source material. Here’s hoping it doesn’t hold back on the body count!
