For this list, we're taking a look at new releases in the realms of movies, music, and video games, as well as premieres of new TV series and new seasons of ongoing series.

#10: “Office Christmas Party” Release Date: December 9, 2016 [U.S.]

Top 10 Oscar Winning Movies that BOMBED at the Box Office

It’s only appropriate that we kick off our list with a holiday-related entry. In this Christmas comedy, Jennifer Aniston stars as a CEO resolute on shutting down a division of her company. To win over a big client, the employees decide to throw a Christmas party, which quickly turns into “The Hangover” meets “Bad Santa”. Featuring the likes of Jason Bateman, T. J. Miller, and Kate McKinnon, the cast alone is reason enough to crash this yuletide bash. Time to mingle and jingle!

#9: “Awaken, My Love!” by Childish Gambino Release Date: December 2, 2016

You may know him best from his various TV roles ranging from Community and 2016’s Atlanta, but Donald Glover has been killing it in the rap game under his stage name Childish Gambino for years now. This December will see the release of Awaken, My Love!, Gambino’s third studio album, which is also the full-length studio follow up to his Grammy nominated 2013 album Because the Internet. Atlanta’s take on the city's music scene will surely have some influence on the record’s sound - and if the album strikes a chord with audiences, we’re sure Donald Glover’s star will continue to shine until he graces the silver screen as Lando Calrissian.

#8: “Live by Night” Release Date: December 25, 2016 [U.S.]

In his latest directorial outing, Ben Affleck takes center stage as Joe Coughlin, a bootlegger that steps up as a gangster during the age of Prohibition. Between “Gone Baby Gone,” “The Town,” and the Best Picture winning “Argo”, Affleck has been on a roll in front of and behind the camera, cementing his place as one of our best modern talents. Just imagine what he can accomplish with an all-star cast that includes Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Cooper, not to mention producer Leonardo DiCaprio.

#7: “Dead Rising 4” Release Date: December 6, 2016

If you’re looking for a game that’ll fill you with holiday spirit while also satisfying your bloodlust, “Dead Rising 4” might be the stocking stuffer for you. Set around Christmastime, the newest addition to this survival horror franchise sees the return of Frank West. When yet another zombie breakout erupts, it’s up to Frank to decide who’s on the naughty list. Our hero will have plenty of new toys to play with, such as a candy cane crossbow. Let’s give these zombies a silent night once and for all!

#6: “Passengers” Release Date: December 21, 2016 [U.S.]

Katniss Everdeen and Peter Quill in the same movie? We’re sold already! Star power aside, “Passengers” looks like a truly unique sci-fi romance, centering on a couple of interplanetary travelers that awaken early from hypersleep. Stuck together on a massive spaceship, the two begin to unravel a mystery while also falling in love. Despite appearing on 2007’s Black List, it’s taken almost a decade for “Passengers” to get off the ground. With Morten Tyldum of “The Imitation Game” helming the project, we’re all onboard for this voyage.

#5: “Silence” Release Date: December 23, 2016 [U.S.]

Also in:

Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs) vs Jigsaw (Saw)

The second big screen adaption of Shûsaku Endô’s novel, this longtime passion project from director Martin Scorsese takes place in seventeenth century Japan. Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver star as two Jesuit priests that endure persecution and brutality while searching for their mentor, played by Liam Neeson. In a career that’s spanned almost five decades, Scorsese has proven that he can do little wrong. Given his track record, we have a feeling that “Silence” will be a major Oscar contender.

#4: “Assassin’s Creed” Release Date: December 21, 2016 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Best Female Assassin Movies

From “Ratchet & Clank,” to “Angry Birds,” to “Warcraft,” 2016 has yet to produce the great video game movie we’ve been waiting for. However, “Assassin’s Creed” just might be the light at the end of the tunnel. In a dual performance, Michael Fassbender plays two original characters: Callum Lynch and his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha, a deadly assassin from the Spanish Inquisition era. This adaptation promises to expand upon the franchise while maintaining the source material’s spirit, complete with rooftop chases and hidden blades.

#3: “La La Land” Release Date: December 9, 2016 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Releases of September 2016

Writer/director Damien Chazelle blew our socks off with 2014’s “Whiplash”. If early buzz and reviews are any indication, his follow-up film may be even better. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone come together once again as a musician and actress trying to make it in the big city. With Los Angeles providing a gorgeous backdrop, the film pays homage to classic musicals from Hollywood’s golden era. Will “La La Land” become the frontrunner for the Academy’s Best Picture prize? In any case, award season is underway.

#2: “The Last Guardian” Release Date: December 6, 2016 [U.S.]

Also in:

Every Single Anticipated Disney Release of 2021

With exception to maybe “Half-Life 3,” “The Last Guardian” might be the most anticipated game of the 21st century. From the brilliant minds behind “Ico” and “Shadow of the Colossus,” this action-adventure has been in the works since 2007. Just when it looked “The Last Guardian” would never see the light of day, Sony answered our prayers at E3 2015. Even though expectations are through the roof, we’re optimistic director Fumito Ueda will deliver an artistic, emotional gaming experience about a boy and his giant dog-cat-bird thingy.

#1: “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” Release Date: December 16, 2016 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Facts

The force officially awakened last December, shattering numerous box office records. Even if “Rogue One” doesn’t out-gross its predecessor, the film still marks a significant chapter in the “Star Wars” saga. The franchise’s first standalone anthology movie, “Rogue One” sets itself shortly before “A New Hope”. The story follows a group of Rebels, including Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, on a mission to retrieve the Death Star plans. Along the way, we’re guaranteed plenty of space battles, inspirational speeches, and James Earl Jones’ return as Darth Vader. Do you agree with our list?
