#10: "Duck Cake"

Sometimes, we have to do rough things. Whether you’re a child, a grown-up, or somewhere in between, that never stops being true. This episode gets that. It sees Bandit trying – and struggling – to make a duck-shaped birthday cake for Bingo. Meanwhile, Bluey is annoyed that she has to clean. But ultimately, she learns the value of helping by doing things like tidying up, and he powers through to bake one heck of a treat. The moment when she gives him a hand always gets us. The episode’s sweet displays of selflessness remind viewers that difficult tasks are worth doing – especially if they make our loved ones happy. If you’re anything like the Heelers, the whole thing will make your proverbial tail wag with joy.

#9: "Fairytale"

It doesn’t get much better than a fun fairytale with a universal message – particularly when it’s a true story from Bandit’s childhood! If you grew up in the ‘80s, the flashback-heavy episode will make you feel all kinds of nostalgic. But even if you didn’t, seeing a young Bandit learn about the importance of treating his siblings kindly after being jinxed will both entertain and touch you. It’s a big lesson, but the show presents it in a convincing way, adding in just the right amounts of humor, action, and heart. We’ll let you decide whether the Princess at the end really is Chilli, but regardless, this is one fairytale the family can enjoy time and again.

#8: "Grannies"

When we say everyone in the fam will like this one, we mean everyone – including grandmas and grandpas. As the title suggests, Bluey and Bingo pretend to be grannies, and their impressions are hysterical. However, Bingo – or should we say Grannie Rita – insists on flossing, while Bluey is convinced that’s not realistic. A call to the grandparents confirms the latter’s suspicions, while providing laughs for anyone who’s ever had to explain video chat to older relatives. But when the tension boils over, Bluey changes her tune and gives Nana and Grandpa Bob a fun tutorial. They’ve got some moves that make us want to dance! The only question left is, can you floss? Don’t worry, this intergenerational episode proves it’s never too late to learn!

#7: "The Pool"

There’s two types of people: those who pack the “boring” stuff, and those who…don’t. If you’re part of the former group, like Chilli, you’ll love this episode. If you’re part of the latter, like Bandit and the girls, you’ll still love it, but it might make you re-evaluate things! The father Heeler and his daughters tease Chilli for telling them to take the basics to the pool. And they leave pretty much everything – from sunscreen to towels – behind. Unsurprisingly, they have a miserable time – until the matriarch saves the day. In life, we can’t always just prioritize fun over the necessities. “Bluey” makes that point in an accessible way that’s sure to make many feel vindicated while giving others a new perspective.

#6: "Copycat"

Death is an inevitable part of life. Bluey is confronted with that reality when she and her dad stumble across an injured bird. Unfortunately, the vet isn’t able to save the little creature, and it passes away. This leads to a difficult conversation that Bandit handles with great honesty and care. It’s a tough situation for all – viewers included – but ultimately, our protagonist accepts that there are things, like death, we simply cannot control. Though it’s not an easy thing for anyone to process, the Heelers make it seem less insurmountable. No matter what stage of life you’re in, the poignant truth and universality as well as the gentle, supportive storytelling anchoring the episode will surely resonate.

#5: "Rain"

Top 20 Best TV Kisses in the Rain

You might be wondering how an episode where the characters speak so little could be fun for the entire family. But there’s something special about “Rain” – so special, in fact, that even the most restless kid around won’t get bored. When a storm hits, Bluey makes it her mission to create a dam. At first, Chilli doesn’t want to play. But eventually, she decides that keeping things dry and clean isn’t as important as helping her kid. It’s hard not to be moved by the display of mother-daughter bonding! Plus, the episode is stunning from a visual, narrative, and sonic perspective. So the next time it’s raining hard and you’re looking for something the whole household will enjoy watching, you know what to put on!

#4: "Takeaway"

Picking up dinner is simple, right? Not if they forget the spring rolls and you have to wait longer than expected. That’s what happens to Bandit, and Bluey and Bingo go wild in the meantime. If you’ve ever waited ages to get takeout, you’ll feel the dad’s pain. Similarly, anyone who’s been out in public with two energetic kids will understand his struggle – and his sweet fortune cookie-inspired realization in the end. Moreover, viewers who are as curious and young (at heart or in age) as the young Heelers will look upon their antics fondly. Above all, we guarantee that the episode will have everybody in the room in stitches – and feeling playful. Be warned though, you will be craving spring rolls by the end!

#3: "Camping"

Friendships change and evolve as we grow. But “Camping” captures the magical way children befriend others. Bluey and Jean-Luc meet while camping. Our Heeler speaks English, while her new pal is francophone, yet that doesn’t prevent a lovely bond from developing. That alone will warm the hearts of all viewers. It’s also what makes it extra sad when Jean-Luc is unable to communicate the fact that he’s headed home to Bluey. Thankfully, Chilli finds the silver lining, summing it up better than we could. Not only that, the flash-forward ending will make you well up and want to check on old friends. From little ones to teens to adults to seniors, there’s no one who won’t be affected by the evocative, true-to-life story.

#2: "Baby Race"

It’s easy to get competitive, but comparing ourselves to others in life rarely does anyone any good. That’s something Chilli learned, and she teaches her girls the same lesson with a story about Bluey as a baby. Any parent watching will relate to the mom doubting herself when her daughter’s mobility progresses at a different pace than she expects. Even if you don’t have kids though, the message about “run[ning] your own race” is always relevant. Plus, who doesn’t lose it when Bella reassures Chilli? After all, people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life need to move at whatever pace feels right. “Baby Race” serves as an excellent reminder to give yourself grace and credit! Okay, we may be getting choked up… Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

#1: “Sleepytime”

Part of what makes “Bluey” so exceptional is its ability to address universal themes with attentiveness and love. That’s why while it’s technically a children’s program, it resonates with people of all age groups. Perhaps no episode exemplifies this better than “Sleepytime”, where Bingo sets out to have a “big girl’s sleep.” Her road to hitting that milestone is paved with a gorgeous dream, within which she and her toy have an adventure informed by real-life actions. There are ups and downs, but when things get dire, Chilli is there to give the little one what she needs. It’s all heartwarmingly pensive and almost philosophical, yet never inaccessible for young audiences. We’d recommend getting each family member their own tissue box before pressing play on this one.
