Top 10 Bluey Fan Theories That Might Be True

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be looking at some of the most plausible “Bluey” fan theories out there.

#10: Bingo’s Biological Mother

The Heelers are your classic nuclear anthropomorphic dog family, right? Well, not according to how some have interpreted the season-three episode “Onesies”. One piece of evidence supporting the idea that Chilli may not be Bingo’s biological mom is Chilli acknowledging that Bingo looks just like Brandy. Of course, it wouldn’t be strange for a niece to look like her mom’s sister but, this theory provides a simpler explanation for the resemblance. It’s been speculated Brandy is actually Bingo’s real mom, but had to give her up for unknown reasons.

#9: Bandit & Chilli: International Smugglers?

Bandit’s name may be literal if this theory about him and Chilli being criminal masterminds is true. The two work as an archaeologist and an airport security guard, respectively. Those are comfortably middle-class jobs. Enough to afford a nice Queensland house and rather lavish lifestyle for themselves and two children? We have our doubts. This theory posits that Bandit finds rare artefacts during digs and Chilli helps smuggle them through customs, allowing them to then sell the items on the black market. It wouldn’t be the first time the show left breadcrumbs for older audiences to piece together, though it does sort of tamp down the family-friendly wholesomeness.

#8: It’s a Reality Show

Maybe it should be called “Keeping Up With the Heelers”? Bandit, Bluey, Chilli, and Bingo often break the fourth wall, sometimes staring right at us when something ridiculous happens. This has led to speculation that they’re the subjects of a reality TV show. Furthering the theory, the family seems to be famous even in their own universe, as evidenced by that one time they walk by a bookstore and we can clearly see Bluey’s face on one of the books. They’re definitely as quotable as the Kardashians – we’ll give them that.

#7: Adult Bluey Is Retelling Her Childhood

Okay, so there’s admittedly not as much hard evidence for this one, as it’s more based around how nearly-perfect the Heelers are as a family unit. Unlike many real families, “Bluey” rarely shows any true strife between Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli. The kids are lovable rapscallions and the parents have their quirks but are always ready to participate in play or help out with a life lesson. Sure, they squabble sometimes, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a hug, an apology, or some goofy shenanigans. It’s led some to believe that the show is actually adult Bluey telling us about her childhood through rose-tinted glasses, sanding off her parents’ rough edges. Of course, they could actually just have a healthy family dynamic – but that’s not quite as conspiracy-worthy, is it?

#6: Chilli & Stripe

It’s great to be close with your spouse’s family, but Chilli and Stripe may be taking that a little too far according to this fan theory. When Bandit’s brother, Stripe, brings Muffin over for a play date, he and Chilli share a kiss. At first glance, it looks like a familial peck on the cheek but, if you watch carefully… Yeah, it’s kind of difficult to tell where it lands. Of course, this opened a whole can of worms postulating infidelity. Some fans have even read into their reactions when their kitchen chat is interrupted a little later in the episode.

#5: Bingo Has Celiac Disease

Through observations pieced together from multiple episodes, some fans have concluded that Bingo has celiac disease. Celiac is an autoimmune disorder characterized by bad reactions to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, and rye products. Multiple scenes show the parents buying or preparing gluten-free food, like when Bandit prepares “gluten-free and gluten-not-free” lunches for the girls. Many also point to the episode where Bingo was in the hospital, the reason for which was never specified. Let’s just hope that gluten-free foods aren’t as expensive in the show as they are in real life.

#4: Bandit’s Father

The death of aging parents is a reality “Bluey” hasn’t shied away from. After all, Chilli’s mother is confirmed to have passed away. For some time, however, Bandit’s father’s status was more ambiguous. After appearing in person once in season one, Bob wasn’t seen or heard from again outside of flashbacks, despite his wife, Chris, playing a role in several further episodes. This fueled rumours that the old pup had sadly crossed the rainbow bridge. Luckily, Bob finally resurfaced in “The Sign”, with the explanation that he’d been on a trip to India. While the moment plays out sweetly in front of the kids, it didn’t stop older audiences from speculating that Bob potentially suffers from a neurodegenerative condition, like Alzheimer’s or dementia.

#3: Judo’s Mom Wendy Is a Single Parent

This one’s pretty straightforward. Wendy, the Heeler’s next-door neighbor and mom of Bluey and Bingo’s friend Judo, is never seen in the company of any co-parent, nor is one ever mentioned. Was there a separation? A death? Or could Judo possibly be the product of adoption or in vitro fertilization? Odds are we’ll never find out. What’s most important, however, is that she’s a strict but loving parent to her daughter. It takes a lot of strength to raise a kid in general, but even more so as a single parent – and Wendy’s character certainly exhibits that quality.

#2: Chilli’s Mental Health Struggles

Chilli is shown to be a loving wife and a dedicated mom. She’s a little on the stricter side compared to Bandit, but she still likes to have fun and act silly. Any parent knows that that’s not always how you feel on the inside, though, and there’s evidence to suggest that Chilli may struggle with her mental health. When Bluey asks her about the book she’s reading, she reveals it’s about “how to be happy”. A number of things could be affecting her, such as postpartum depression or perhaps a loss of her sense of self after she became a mom. Whatever the case, it’s relatable for a lot of parents out there and relieving to know that even someone like Chilli doesn’t have it all figured out.

#1: Chilli Had a Miscarriage

Bluey’s always been relatable to adults as well as kids, and nowhere is that more apparent than how it handles infertility. Of course, we all know about Brandy’s experience with the hardship, but there’s some indication that Chilli and Bandit’s journey to becoming parents wasn’t so smooth either. In the episode “The Show”, Bluey and Bingo re-enact their parents’ relationship, with Bingo putting a balloon under her shirt to simulate Chilli being pregnant with Bluey. As balloons do, it pops – and we catch both parents’ faces fall, with Bandit immediately putting his hand on Chilli’s. As many have pointed out, this reaction seems both a little too genuine and a little too sad to be a result of a balloon popping.
