Top 10 Cartoon Crossovers That Need to Happen

There’s never been a mystery that those meddling kids couldn’t solve. Wait, are we talking about Scooby and the gang or the Pines and their friends? Clearly, these two gangs were meant to meet – after all, one has a Mystery Machine and the other a Mystery Shack, so it’s clearly fated. Besides, it might be fun to see Scooby and pals confront some real supernatural forces for a change. Or maybe they would find out that everything that seems like magic in Gravity Falls is really the doing of old man Jenkins.

As any kid knows, the biggest challenge in life is not being bored. Phineas and Ferb, who are on a perpetual summer vacation, are fortunately full of great ideas for keeping boredom at bay. And Clarence and his pals, Sumo and Jeff, are also rarely at a loss when it comes to thinking up things to do – even when they maybe shouldn’t be doing them. Mixing these guys together should produce interesting results – especially once Jeff starts worrying over the rightness of the ideas that Phineas and Clarence could develop together.

At first glance, this seems like an odd couple pairing – not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with that. But Mordecai and Rigby are basically a couple of ordinary, fairly laidback dudes with dull jobs. Sure, their adventures get a little farfetched and weird, but the guys themselves are pretty down-to-earth. BoJack, though, is a bitter, alcoholic washed-up TV star living in Hollywood, which isn’t exactly an ordinary set-up. But both shows star anthropomorphic characters and share an underlying sense of unease. There’s something these characters are struggling for, even if they aren’t aware of it, and that common bond could produce a compelling crossover.

Adolescence is tough on anyone, with most teens feeling like there’s something different about them that means they don’t fit in. So imagine what it’s like going through adolescence when you really ARE different. For Steven Universe, he’s a half-human, half-magical creature learning to live with his powers. For Star, she’s a magical princess who is learning how to control her powers. Okay, these two already have so much they could talk about over a latte. And their personalities are different enough that their strengths would complement each other. Also, there’s a certain similarity in the art styles of the shows that would make it easy to blend the two worlds together.

Okay, so SpongeBob and his gang are a little wackier and zanier in tone than the “Regular Show” crew. But is that necessarily a bad thing? Besides, Mordecai, Rigby, and the rest have been known to let loose in the right situation. And can’t you just imagine the conversations between Mordecai and SpongeBob and Rigby and Patrick? Of course, Benson and Squidward would definitely team up to create trouble. While the tones of the two shows are quite different, they both share a weirdness bordering on the surreal which would make for a very memorable team-up.

Science fiction settings? Check. Healthy doses of satire? Check. Humor that runs a little dark? Check. Mad scientist as a main character? Check and check! Clearly, these two series were meant to get together. True, there’s the little matter of “Futurama” being set in a totally different time period. But, hey, Rick and Morty regularly move between different dimensions and realities, so taking a little jaunt into the future shouldn’t be an issue. Once these characters are together, anything could happen – especially if Rick and Farnsworth get to arguing over the finer points of mad science-dom. Whatever the results, it would be a blast for fans of both shows.

With Pendleton Ward as creator of both series, it seems inevitable that they’ll mash up at some time or other. They already share a compatible animation style, so it would be easy-peasy for Finn and Jake to fit right in visually with Chris and Beth. And since both series have something to do with a variety of odd and interesting characters having adventures in odd and interesting worlds – what could be the problem? True, they’re not necessarily in the same time period or maybe even the same world. But if anyone can solve a niggling little problem like that, it’s Princess Bubblegum – with or without Emotion Lord.

These two-iconic girl power music groups definitely need to get together and mash up some memorable medleys for their multitudes of fans. Two generations of young girls were inspired to try their hand at rocking out thanks to these animated girl groups. And even those the awful live-action films can’t diminish the appeal of the original cartoons. Imagine how awesome a crossover would be, especially with the advances in animation since these series were made? Find the right voices, bring in some top songwriters and a producer with cred, and the result could be a big event for both animation and the pop music world.

Nobody expected “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” to become a cultural explosion – especially among boys and men – but that’s just what happened. “Littlest Pet Shop” didn’t capture the male audience, but maybe they just need to be exposed to Blythe Baxter and her pet friends. And what better way for that to happen than via a crossover? Both series evolved from animal-based toy lines, and the somewhat jauntier pet shop characters might add a different flavor to the “My Little Pony” crew. There’s plenty of room for lessons learned and friendship reinforcement from both series. So what do we need to do to make it happen?

Transformations anyone? Danny Fenton has the power to transform into a ghostly superhero, taking the name Danny Phantom. Ben Tennyson has a cool watch which enables him to take on ten different alien forms. It doesn’t take much imagination to see that these two should have some adventures together. Danny may be a little older than Ben, but they’re both a little brash and impulsive. Of course, they also share a fearlessness and a commitment to defeating evil that makes them natural allies. The shows are at odds in terms of visual style, but either character would look cool reimagined for the other one’s world.
