Top 10 Celebrity Gamers

Top 10 Celebrity Gamers
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Script written by Alex Crilly-Mckean

There's nothing like friendship amongst celebrities. Yes, despite Hollywood festering with egos and backstabbers, there's still some famous people who enjoy the company of a buddy. And not just to sell movies or heighten their fame, these are genuine friendships that have lasted through the years!

#10: Snoop Dogg

When Snoop Doggy Dogg gives you the accolade of “coolest game in the hood,” you know you’ve done something right. Since the rapper is a well-known fan of “Call of Duty,” it’s no surprise that Activision sought to include him in some small way in one of their projects. This eventually came in the form of “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” where Snoop lent his signature suaveness to his very own DLC. Needless to say, nothing makes “COD” multiplayer better than having Snoop adlib some custom narration. How’s that for crizzay?

#9: Rosario Dawson

When she’s not patching up the likes of Daredevil and Luke Cage, everybody’s favorite Night Nurse is a huge gamer. As if she couldn’t get any more awesome, her top picks happen to be none other than Nintendo juggernauts like “Super Mario Bros.,” “The Legend of Zelda,” and even “Pokémon.” She’s not satisfied with just playing either, as she’s lent her voice to video game reboots like “Syndicate,” as well as “Ratchet & Clank.” To top it all off, she’s also a massive promoter of women’s representation both in terms of video game characters and the gaming industry as a whole. You rock, Rosario!

#8: Wil Wheaton

A true pioneer when it comes to all things nerd, if there’s any celeb that appreciates the medium more than the usual gaming populace; it’s Wesley Crusher himself. Between his appearances on “The Big Bang Theory” or his voice-work in hit shows like “Teen Titans,” Wil loves to indulge in video games, especially narrative-driven ones. Based on how eloquently he talks about franchises like “Mass Effect” and “God of War,” it’s clear he respects the medium and what it can do from a story perspective that others can’t. You’re the man, Wil. Please invite us to your next TableTop session!

#7: Henry Cavill

These days, we all know Mr. Cavill as the Man of Steel. However, that almost wasn’t the case, as his love for a specific MMORPG caused him to miss the call from Zack Snyder. The game in question? None other than “World of Warcraft.” That’s right, before he was the Last Son of Krypton, Henry Cavill was spending his days saving the land of Azeroth. If the guy weren’t committed to the DC Extended Universe, he probably would’ve been knocking on Blizzard’s door to get a role in the “Warcraft” movie.

#6: Jack Black

We all know that Jack Black is all about music and acting, more often than not mixing both at the same time. Throw in a love for classic games like “Space Invaders” and “Marble Madness,” and it’s hard to think of anyone else who could have been better for the lead character in “Brütal Legend.” Mixing comedic action and heavy metal references, the Tenacious D vocalist managed to bring the ultimate roadie Eddie Riggs to life. He’s also gone on record about his proudest gaming achievement: beating “Project Gotham Racing.”

#5: Olivia Munn

In-between letting loose her mutant abilities as Psylocke and hunting down the truth on “The Newsroom,” this actress has shown herself to be a hard-core gamer. Not surprising, since once upon a time she was the co-host of a video game-based series called “Attack of the Show.” While her presenting days are behind her, it’s clear Munn still has the gaming bug. She’s claimed on various occasions that she loves nothing more than spending her time playing “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” and “Guitar Hero” for hours on end. You would not want to go up against her.

#4: Matthew Perry

You think you’re a fan of the “Fallout” series? You have got nothing on Matthew Perry. That’s right, Chandler Bing is a huge fan of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG flagship, apparently pouring so many hours into searching around the Capital Wasteland that he actually injured himself. We’re not sure how many Super Mutants he had to kill to get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in his hand, but his love for “Fallout 3” made it happen. At least his suffering wasn’t in vain: he managed to land a voice role as antagonist Benny in “Fallout: New Vegas.”

#3: Terry Crews

He’s got the muscles to throw down with the likes of the Expendables, and the comedic timing to make us laugh on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” but did you know he’s also got the skills to shoot down enemies in “Battlefield 1?” Only recently jumping on the video game bandwagon, Terry has become a devout member of the PC Master Race, going so far as to attend E3 conventions and build his own computer at home. How can you not love his all-encompassing charisma, especially when he finds himself behind the wheel of a tank? Oh, and he’s also such a huge fan of “Overwatch” that he wants to star in it. Heck yes!

#2: Mila Kunis

She’s scarily talented as an actress, obviously beautiful and makes us laugh on frequent occasions. Could she become any more attractive? Well, she’s also a huge gaming geek, so yes, yes she can. While she had to force herself to take a break from it, Mila was once a massive “World of Warcraft” addict, having a firm grasp of the lore, which she’s been more than happy to demonstrate during interviews. Despite all of her acting gigs, we’re thinking she still might fall back into it someday.

#1: Vin Diesel

He’s fast, he’s furious, he’s Groot, and he just might be one of Hollywood’s biggest nerds. Aside from being a well-known “D&D” lover, Vin Diesel is also pretty partial to playing video games, both PC and console, notably “World of Warcraft” and “Call of Duty.” Then there’s Tigon Studios, a video game developer that Vin Diesel founded, originally to push the boundaries of video games based on movies due to their history of poor quality. This venture gave us two games based on “The Chronicles of Riddick”: “Escape from Butcher Bay” and “Assault on Dark Athena,” both of which proved to be of surprisingly good quality. Some say even better than the actual movie, ironically.
