For this list, we'll be looking at the times when anime characters pranked the hell out of each other.
Gotcha! Welcome to WatchMojo and today we are counting down out picks for the Top 10 Funniest Pranks in Anime.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the times when anime characters pranked the hell out of each other.
(Todd Introduction)
#10: Workplace Mismanagement
“Servant x Service” (2013)
Normally this kind of thing would lead to someone getting fired and most likely sued, but we won’t deny that watching Lucy fall to her colleague’s pranks over and over again is rather delightful. Whether its putting things up way too high for her to reach or tricking her into looking like an air-headed cutie in front of a camera, it’s no surprise that so little gets done around the office space! HR must be non-existent in this department. Either that or they’re in on the joke.
#9: Not Very Effective
“Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto” (2016)
We didn’t say the pranks had to succeed, did we? In the case of this perfect student, he not only side-steps every ploy and humiliating stratagem flung his way, but did with such grace and style that it made him more popular in the process. An eraser falling from the door frame? Catches it and strikes a pose. Has his chair pulled out from under him? Doesn’t move an inch. A bucket of water through into his bathroom stall? Busts out an umbrella. Face it guys, Sakamoto is un-prankable.
#8: Crossdressing Gone Wrong
“Ouran High School Host Club” (2006)
Given how imperative it was that Haruhi’s true gender remain a secret, it fell to the rest of the Host Club to figure out how to keep things hush hush during an upcoming physical. With the support of his friends, Tamaki took the brave step of taking her place, planning on fooling the rest of the school with nothing more than a wig…only for everyone to immediately see through it and burst out laughing at his expense. Turns out the rest of the Host Club knew that the plan would fail, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to trick their glorious leader.
#7: Endless Tripping
“Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” (2017)
One does not simply give grief to a dragon’s waifu, unless of course you’re ready for a world of hurt. To be honest, this irate boss should thank his lucky stars he was devoured whole or set on fire, given Tohru’s rocky temperament for anyone who insults her precious Kobayashi. Instead, she chose to give the office something to gossip about when she turned invisible and began to trip the guy up every chance she got, to the point where he couldn’t even take a single step without his face meeting the floor. It’s kind of cute in a way, not everyone can say their sweetheart nearly gave their despicable boss a concussion.
#6: The Lord of Panties
“KonoSuba” (2016-17)
Not quite the way one would expect an adventurer to use a thieving spell, but again this is Kazuma; the cynical NEET who will do anything to make his new, miserable life in a fantasy world just that much bearable. Even if it means grossly misusing a new skill to steal the panties of his female party members. It’s certainly effective…in a perverted, shameful kind of way, leaving the likes of Megumin and the rest thoroughly embarrassed while Kazuma swings around their unmentionables like he’s just snagged himself a winning lottery ticket.
#5: Flirting Advice
“Clannad” (2007-08)
There’s nothing wrong with seeking council when it comes to the art of wooing, just make sure you choose the right wingman, otherwise you’ll end up in the same sticky situation as Sunohara. Unwisely trusting Okazaki to give him tips in order to land in his crush’s good graces, all the horny teen ends up doing is making himself look like an idiot as Okazaki tells him to make outrageous declarations while performing increasingly bizarre gestures. Given how the whole thing ends with him getting kicked a thousand times, it’s likely he won’t be getting her number anytime soon.
#4: Picking Careers
“The Daily Lives of High School Boys” (2012)
I think it’s fair to say that many of these students are not going to go far in life, but at least their pranking game is on point. After being asked to write down their ideal careers, their teacher gets a rude awakening when she realizes the boys in her class have very…lofty goals. With each answer only bringing her further and further to the edge, you have to admire how every student came together just to mess up their teacher’s day by putting down such timeless career goals as Middle School Student, Ghost, Science Entertainer and Not Wanting to Become a Lawyer. Shout out to the guy who wrote Teacher’s Wife. He’s got his priorities straight.
#3: Dio Lives
“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusader” (2014-15)
After getting stabbed in the throat by the Joestar clan’s vampiric nemesis, it looked like Old Man Joseph was a goner. However, being the stubborn bastard he is, Jotaro refused to let his grandfather die, managing to bring him back with a last second blood transfusion courtesy of Dio’s freshly broken corpse. However, turns out that by doing so, he accidentally resurrects the villainous Stand user yet again! Oh the horror! Oh the inhumanity! Oh – wait his gramps was just messing with him. Jeez man, time and place!
#2: Worst Breakfast Ever
“Nichijou” (2011)
Whoever said anyone can cook clearly has never met Mio’s older sister. After drumming up some homemade jam, she offers her little see a sample. This turns out to be a mistake, since the concoction is so terrible that nearly drives Mio insane. Thankfully, her dear sibling is on hand with some tea to wash the vileness away…except the tea turns out to taste just as bad. Thus begins Mio’s personal hell, caught in a vicious cycle of jam and tea until her life literally starts flashing before her eyes.
Before we reveal our number one prank, here are a few honourable mentions.
Meeting Sucy
Fireworks
Eraser
#1: Gintoki the Love God
“Gintama” (2006-)
Sobriety has never looked better. Following a heavy night of drinking, our boy Gin awakens to discover he’s done the unthinkable and had a supposed one night stand with Granny Otose…and Tae…and Kyuubei…and Sa-chan…and Tsukuyo…and even Hasegawa! Thanks to his drunken antics, the White Demon finds himself in the terrible position of trying to take responsibility for his misdeeds, which somehow ends up with him in six different relationships, all of which turn out to be equally painful. Just when you thought his suffering was at its apex, Gintoki discovers the whole thing was orchestrated by the ladies so he’d quit the bottle. His expression says it all.
