Top 10 Times Megan Mullally & Nick Offerman Made Us Believe in Love
#10: When They Competed on ‘Smooshed’
When Megan Mullally agreed to a food battle on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in 2016, her opponent was none other than her husband. The manly actor walked out onto the stage and offered to shake hands before leaning in for a kiss. During the food prep portion, Nick Offerman knew where his priorities were and reached straight for the bourbon. In the end, his dish called the ‘Manuka Devil’s Mess’ made Colbert swear, but still won the competition. The host gave his reasoning for why Mullally’s meal was smooshed. Apparently, such feedback was familiar. Offerman’s face said it all as the crowd cheered her on.
#9: When They Published a Book Together
They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but we were sold on this nonfiction publication the instant we saw the cover of Offerman and Mullally in a naked embrace surrounded by roses. The book, co-authored by the husband-and-wife duo, is based on real conversations they recorded before bed and explores all sorts of topics, ranging from family to religion. While their work in the entertainment industry is full of glitz and glamor, the book puts their relationship in a more relatable light. On the other hand, the professionally shot portraits that are included show the two actors in fabulous couple’s costumes. A perfect mix of the theatrical and the authentic, it's a great representation of their marriage.
#8: When Megan Revealed Nick’s Charming Pet Names for Her
In addition to sharing a profession, the two actors share a similar colorful sense of humor. This is reflected in the pet names they have for each other. Mullally’s term of endearment for her husband’s private parts isn’t one we’d heard before, but we’re pretty sure she means it as a compliment. When Offerman refers to his wife, he takes either a sexually inapropriate or comedically patriarchal route. He went so far as to have one especially explicit term embroidered and framed as a gift. Nothing is quite as silly, though, as their celebrity couple name.
#7: When They Interviewed with GQ
The couple is not usually shy when talking about each other. They often do interviews together and separately, especially when on press tours. While promoting their variety special, “Summer of 69: No Apostrophe,” the couple opened about their marriage to GQ. They recounted the story of how they met working on a play, talked about their age gap, and advised couples to have fun in the bedroom. Mullally spoke about trying to have kids, and how they, as a couple, pivoted when it didn’t end up happening. Offerman revealed nearly all of himself, both metaphorically and literally. Along with the interview, they also did a gender swapped photo shoot as Sonny and Cher - one that left the “Parks and Rec” star very exposed.
#6: When They Tease Each Other Online
Both actors got their big breaks in comedic roles and are known for their comedic talents. The couple’s humor comes across in how they interact online, specifically Twitter. They enjoy teasing each other, and take turns being the butt of the joke. True to their brands, their posts are often sexual in nature. Whether it's Offerman talking about beavers or Mullally making an inappropriate pun, they love to bring up the bedroom. While their jokes border on being too personal, they still tend to get a laugh out of us.
#5: When They Surprised Their Guests by Getting Married
Mullally and Offerman took a page out of April and Andy’s book when they staged a surprise wedding. Or, more accurately, it’s the other way around. The night before the 2003 Emmys, the couple invited 20 friends and family over to their house in the Hollywood Hills. They claimed it was to celebrate Mullally’s fourth Emmy nomination. However, once the guests arrived, their hosts surprised them by tying the knot. They were married out in the yard by Offerman’s Kabuki theater teacher with a Japanese tea ceremony. Far from a traditional wedding, it perfectly suited the eccentric couple.
#4: When They Did a Comedy Special Together
Working with a romantic partner isn’t always the best idea, but Offerman and Mullally have successfully done so many a times. In 2016 they collaborated on an especially intimate comedy special called, “Summer of 69: No Apostrophe.” Composed of jokes and songs, the show focused on the couple’s relationship in the bedroom. Mullally’s previous experience touring as a part of a musical group came in handy when she and her husband played guitar and sang as part of the set. Their ability to write and perform together speaks to how in sync these two are.
#3: When Nick Turned up on “Will & Grace”
Offerman started dating Mullally while she was still working on “Will & Grace.” He made a guest appearance as a plumber during the show’s fourth season in 2001, long before he was cast as the iconic Ron Swanson in “Parks and Rec.” When Mullally’s sitcom was rebooted in 2017, her husband was invited back on in a different role. Cast this time as the suave chef Jackson Boudreaux, he seduced both Will and Grace but failed to catch the affection of Mullally’s character, Karen. Considering how public they are about their attraction to each other, it's hilarious to see the actress reject her spouse, even if it is scripted.
#2: When They Do Puzzles Together
While at home, the couple likes to stay busy. One of the ways they do so is by completing puzzles together. For a period of time, they were in the habit of posting pictures of their finished works on Twitter. They even began restaging the puzzle’s scenes, copying poses and employing props. When needed, their pets would get involved. It’s super cute to see the more domestic and relatable side of the couple, even while they stay true to their habitual silly shenanigans. On multiple levels, this is couple goals!
#1: When They Were on “Parks and Recreation” Together
The couple’s chemistry was put to use when Mullally was invited onto the television mockumentary series featuring her husband. In a few episodes over the course of the show, she appeared as Tammy Swanson, Ron Swanson’s troublesome second ex-wife. Despite his stoic nature, Ron struggled to control himself whenever Tammy II was around. She used her sexuality to manipulate the public servant, pulling moves one certainly wouldn’t expect from a librarian. Thanks to their reality as husband and wife, the two had no reason to hold back as Ron and Tammy II. While their characters’ on-screen relationship was undoubtedly toxic, it was also hilariously passionate. If one thing is true, the actors’ unrestricted performances speak to how comfortable they are together.
