The funniest times in iCarly that Spencer started a fire ensure spontaneous laughter.
He’s got a magic touch that warms our hearts… and sets off the smoke alarms. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Funniest Times in iCarly that Spencer started a Fire. Before we begin, we publish new content every day, so be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to keep notified about our latest videos. For this list, we’re looking back at some of the most hilarious moments with one of our favorite Nickelodeon Running Gags - Carly’s eccentric older brother, Spencer, miraculously causing spontaneous fires. If you’ve never laughed at these sudden infernos, there WILL be spoilers.

#10: The Fire Station “iPear Store”

After too many accidental fires, the Seattle Fire Department refuses to answer Carly and Spencer’s emergency calls anymore –clearly fed up with Spencer’s little incidents. Spencer tries to make peace with the department and ends up volunteering his time to help around the station. Unfortunately, Spencer ends up starting a kitchen fire and getting himself and the firefighters trapped in the blazing building. Thankfully, they make it out alive; but it’s safe to say that the Shays are on their own when another fire starts. It’s unfair to blame Spencer for all these accidents and the department shouldn’t be allowed to ignore their calls for help, but you have to appreciate the cruel irony of the fire station being set ablaze.

#9: Spencer’s Homemade Headlight “iGo To Japan”

Also in:

Among his many whimsical art pieces, Spencer creates his own homemade light helmet powered by a car battery he “borrowed” from Mrs. Benson. Not too long after, when Mrs. Benson shows concern about him and the kids going to Japan, Spencer assures her that he is a responsible adult… only for his homemade helmet to immediately catch fire. The flame is luckily extinguished quickly, but with how powerful the battery is, it was bound to cause some sort of electrical problem at some point. What makes this particular spontaneous combustion so funny is the perfect timing of the gag –but not really helpful when trying to make yourself look “responsible”, Spence.

#8: Dinner Disaster “iWanna Stay With Spencer”

While cooking chicken stir-fry for dinner, Spencer gets into a heated argument with his granddad over Carly’s living situation. Unfortunately, things get heated in the literal sense when the dinner catches fire. What’s Spencer’s first reaction? To try and beat the fire away with a broom… naturally, it doesn’t even remotely work as the broom also catches alight. This was the very first Spencer fire in the show, and it wasn’t caused by some poor electrical wiring or unlucky force, but by Spencer being inattentive. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but this one incident would become one of “iCarly’s” funniest and literally hottest running gags.

#7: The Electromagnetic Christmas Tree “iChristmas”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Lucas on One Tree Hill Was The WORST

Rather than get a traditional Christmas tree as Carly wanted, Spencer makes his own homemade tree made from junkyard scrap and a dangerously large electro-magnet –much to Carly’s disappointment. While Spencer’s magna-tree is impressive, it ends up catching fire –of course- and burning the Christmas presents. An infuriated Carly chews Spencer out for his fake tree –wishing that he were born normal... ok, maybe “funniest” times was the wrong title for this video. Thankfully, this particular inferno turns out to have just been part of a dream teaching Carly to appreciate her peculiar older brother –absurd sculptures, spontaneous combustions and all.

#6: Spencer’s Baking Blunder “iCan’t Take It”

Also in:

To hide the fact that Sam and Freddie are dating, Spencer makes up an insane lie to Mrs. Benson about starting a bread business. To ease his guilty conscience, Spencer actually starts baking bread to keep up the illusion… what could possibly go wrong, right? Later on, Spencer goes to check on the bread; the minute he opens the oven, a massive fireball greets him as his loaf of bread is engulfed in flames. Hastily, Spencer closes the oven and says he’ll “give it a few more minutes.” You have to respect Spencer for trying to honor his self-made commitment, but maybe he should stick to spaghetti tacos instead of bread.

#5: The Final Fire “iGoodbye”

In the very first episode, we can already see that Spencer is an amazing sculptor – one of his first creations we see is a squirrel made from parts of his old video camera. Near the end of the final episode, Spencer looks over his squirrel one more time, reminiscing, when the statue suddenly bursts into flames. Fittingly, the squirrel was the very last item to catch fire in Spencer’s final scene of the series, and what makes this spontaneous alighting funny is how Spencer doesn’t even flinch. He just smiles knowingly while his statue burns –showing that he’s come to accept that accidental fires are just a part of what makes him the artistic goofball we know and love.

#4: The Fire Extinguisher “iOMG”

With how many accidental infernos he’s caused over the years, Spencer decides to buy a fire extinguisher to add a little extra protection and hopefully stop relying on the fire department. He “fixes” the nozzle to make it more powerful, and tries to demonstrate to Carly how to properly use the extinguisher. Unfortunately, the “tune-up” he gives the extinguisher ends up turning it into a flamethrower –setting a paper cup ablaze. Fortunately, Carly is there to put out the flames with ease –but it still astounds and amuses us how Spencer can turn a handy firefighting device into a tool of burning irony.

#3: Spencer’s New Drums “iAm Your Biggest Fan”

Leave it to Spencer to give new meaning to the term “hot music”. When he finds an old drum set at the junkyard, Spencer decides to reassemble it so that he can audition to be part of a rock group. He finally manages to fix the kit and tests it out... only for one of the cymbals to catch fire, and all Spencer can ask is how it’s even possible. Honestly, we want to know too, but that’s what makes the running gag even funnier – when something that’s completely inflammable goes ablaze for no real reason. Obviously, the music world isn’t ready for Spencer to rock out… not without a smoke alarm, anyway.

#2: Carly’s Bedroom “iGot a Hot Room”

For Carly’s birthday, Spencer makes her a desk lamp made out of multicolored gummy bears. A sweet gesture at first, but the lamp ends up overheating and exploding –setting Carly’s entire bedroom on fire. Again, this is more sad than funny because Spencer was just trying to do something nice for his little sister on her special day; unfortunately, with his burning bad luck, no good deed goes unpunished. Fortunately, it turns out that this accidental fire ended up giving Spencer the means to rebuild Carly’s bedroom and make it better than ever –showing a more helpful side to our favorite artist’s accidental infernos. Before we unveil our number one pick, here are a few red-hot honorable mentions. Spencer’s Roller Skate “iBattle Chip” The Wireless Printer “iMust Have Locker 239” Spencer’s Snow Woman “iPear Store” The Spencer Doll “iShock America” Spencer’s Egg Gun “iPity the Nevel”

#1: Front Desk Bell “iHurt Lewbert”

When Spencer steps in as a temporary doorman, his first order of business is to fix the bell on the front desk lobby when it stops ringing. He manages to repair it… but it immediately catches fire forcing him to put out the fire with his drink. The icing on the cake is that near the end of the scene, the bell catches fire again -leaving Spencer to simply ask “how”? This short but hilarious moment perfectly highlights what makes this running gag so great – how the object doesn’t even have to be flammable to be set alight, and Spencer’s left stupefied and confused. Even he doesn’t know how this keeps happening, but it’s just part of what makes Spencer so funny.
