Top 10 Best Vi & Caitlyn Moments on Arcane
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at moments where Vi and Caitlyn were the ultimate power couple, whether fighting in unity or being ripped apart. Spoilers for both seasons of “Arcane” will follow.
#10: Their First Meeting
“Happy Progress Day!” & “Everybody Wants to Be My Enemy”
Caitlyn’s first meeting with Vi is also our reintroduction to the character. Vi has spent her adulthood incarcerated after losing everyone she loved. Being a Piltovan enforcer, Caitlyn is the last person Vi would expect to form a connection with. Yet, the chemistry between these two is instantaneous, despite being at odds. To find Silco, Caitlyn gets Vi released from prison. Although Caitlyn needs somebody to guide her through the undercity, she doesn’t view Vi as a means to an end. She recognizes that Vi is a person who’s being unjustly mistreated. The deeper they head into Zaun[a], the more Caitlyn sees how unbalanced the world is. She also finds that Vi is more than she seems, offsetting Caitlyn’s by-the-book approach with street smarts.
#9: Caitlyn’s House
“Oil and Water”
After spending time together in the undercity, Caitlyn welcomes Vi into her house. It isn’t the warmest welcome, as Caitlyn’s mother barges in on them with a gun. Despite this rocky introduction, Caitlyn’s parents are more open-minded than they appear. Vi has changed the way Caitlyn sees the world. Caitlyn’s mother is willing to hear them out, arranging a meeting with the council. Although they grew up on opposite ends, being in Caitlyn’s house reminds Vi of her childhood. It was a happier time when her parents were alive, Jinx was still Powder, and the only monsters were figurative. Lying together on the bed, we recognize how different Vi and Caitlyn are, but also how their blossoming romance may bring two worlds under one house.
#8: Not Getting Rid of Me
“The Dirt Under Your Nails”
Vi and Caitlyn spend most of the final episode apart, fulfilling their individual missions. While the overall outcome is a victory for our heroes, it’s not without loss. Caitlyn lost an eye. Vi possibly lost a sister, although there remains hope that Jinx might still be out there. In any case, the fight isn’t over. Reflecting on the past, Vi and Caitlyn also look to the future. Whatever awaits, Vi assures her cupcake that she isn’t going anywhere. Vi perfectly sums up their unbreakable bond, as messy as it can get. For all the trauma “Arcane” put us through, seeing Vi and Caitlyn get their happily ever after makes all the heartache worth it.
#7: Oil & Water
“Oil and Water”
As Vi stands by Caitlyn’s side before the council, we see the potential for unity. Vi remembers she’s an outsider, though, when the council shoots down her advice to take action against Silco, instead opting to negotiate. In a fleeting yet impactful moment that speaks volumes, Caitlyn receives a nod of approval from her mother, encouraging her to go after Vi. With the rain pouring down, Caitlyn pleads with Vi to stay. Not only to help form a new plan, but to see where their relationship takes them. Although walking away isn’t easy for Vi, she sees Piltover[b] and Zaun as oil and water. The same can be said about her feelings for Caitlyn. Whether it’s rain or tears running down Caitlyn’s face, we’re heartbroken.
#6: Jinx Asks Vi to Choose
“The Monster You Created”
A long-awaited reunion between sisters turns bitter once Caitlyn enters the mix. With jealousy poisoning her unstable mind, Jinx decides to settle things over a meal. When Jinx presented Vi with a plate, we legitimately feared Caitlyn’s head might be on it. Although Caitlyn is thankfully alive, Jinx has an equally twisted idea. Jinx tells Vi to choose between her sister and her cupcake. Vi isn’t the only one with an impossible choice, as Jinx suffers an identity crisis. Whatever’s left of Powder is seemingly shattered after Silco dies in the chaos, prompting Jinx to unleash her fury upon the council. With her sister gone, Vi flees with Caitlyn, the only family she has left. Yet, even their relationship may not survive the aftermath.
#5: Fighting Jinx
“Finally Got the Name Right”
Joining Caitlyn’s task force, Vi commits to stopping Jinx for good. Taking out the enemy she once called her sister is easier said than done. Whether or not Vi has it in her to kill Jinx, she pulls back when an orphan gets in the way. Caitlyn, meanwhile, is prepared to take the shot, hellbent on avenging her mother. Intervening, Vi is horrified to see Caitlyn endanger a child. The tables have turned with Vi thinking rationally and Caitlyn acting on her aggressive impulses. Vi feels she’s already created one monster in Jinx. Watching Caitlyn go down a dark path as well, Vi fears she’s lost another loved one. The two part ways again, but this time, it’s Caitlyn who turns her back on Vi.
#4: Reunion
“The Message Hidden Within the Pattern”
Much has changed since Vi and Caitlyn last clashed. One has been promoted to commander-in-chief and moved on with someone else. Vi has gone down an even darker path, as reflected through her new hairdo. Yet, when Vi invokes an old nickname, Caitlyn’s eyes can’t help but light up. It doesn’t seem to make a difference since Caitlyn still brings Vi in. This turns out to be a ruse, as Vi and Caitlyn work toward a common goal. That’s not to say all is forgiven, especially concerning Jinx. Seeing Vi and Jinx share a family moment, though, Caitlyn is given a glimpse of her enemy’s humanity. All hell breaks loose soon enough, but as Caitlyn aids Vi amidst calamity, it’s like nothing has changed.
#3: Cupcake
“Everybody Wants to Be My Enemy”
The search for Silco takes the two to a brothel where Caitlyn isn’t sure how to blend in. Vi gives Caitlyn a confidence boost… and a nickname. As for whether Caitlyn would prefer a man or a woman, Vi can’t help but grin when she gets her answer. Although Vi finds herself warming up to Caitlyn, she flies solo upon confronting Silco’s right-hand-woman Sevika[c]. When Sevika gets the upper hand, Vi fortunately still has Caitlyn in her corner. Caitlyn surprises Vi in more ways than one. In addition to being an excellent shot, Caitlyn shows she values Vi’s safety over her mission. It’s a badass moment that’s equally sweet. If you weren’t shipping them already, you definitely were after this.
#2: Going All the Way
“Killing Is a Cycle”
Everything is working against Vi and Caitlyn getting a happy ending. Not only are they from different worlds, but Vi’s sister was responsible for the most tragic loss in Caitlyn’s life. However, even when at odds, the audience never doubts that these two are meant for each other. In the cell where Jinx once stood, Caitlyn consoles a grieving Vi, guaranteeing that she hasn’t lost everybody. The two go from comforting each other to finally consummating their relationship. The wounds of the past don’t matter anymore. Vi doesn’t even blink when Caitlyn mentions that she was kind of with someone else during her absence. All that matters is they’re together to share this passionate moment that had us all swooning.
#1: CaitVi Kiss
“Finally Got the Name Right”
While Vi and Caitlyn have had their share of almost kisses, the showrunners were finally done teasing us in Season 2. Ready to go after Jinx, Vi is worried about what awaits. Not just the tricks that Jinx surely has up her sleeve, but how the experience might change Caitlyn. Vi can see how the loss of her mother is tearing up Caitlyn inside, concerned she won’t recognize the woman she fell in love with by the time this is over. Caitlyn gives Vi reassurance with a kiss that we waited almost eight episodes and three years for. Vi and Caitlyn’s struggles might not be in the past. For a brief moment, though, both are allowed to share in something beautiful against a divided landscape.
