#10: Jérôme Jarre
Jarre was an entrepreneur who had started several businesses before discovering Vine and becoming a content creator from Day One. One of his videos, Don’t Be Afraid of Love!, became one of Vine’s earliest hits, and by June 2014, he was the fourth most popular Vine star. After becoming successful, Jarre co-launched a talent agency for Vine, Instagram, and Snapchat content creators called GrapeStory. In 2017, he helped raise millions of dollars for drought relief in Somalia through his advocacy on social media. It’s nice to see a content creator using their popularity for good rather than, you know, just the benjamins.
#9: Alx James
Alx James attained an audience of millions on Vine due to his relatable and sassy sense of humor, insights into pop culture trends, and famous waterbug vids. And, as you’ll see is the case with many Vine stars, James made the transition to Instagram and YouTube following the closure of Vine. James has over 8000, 000 followers on Instagram, where he posts more funny videos, and another million or so subscribers on YouTube. That said, he doesn’t post much of his stories on YouTube anymore, so if you want to get the latest Alx James, you’ll have to head over to Insta.
#8: Cameron Dallas
Known for the pranks he played on his friends and family, Cameron Dallas quickly amassed over eight million followers on Vine and over eleven million on Twitter. Dallas used his Internet fame to leverage an acting career, and he starred in the movies “Expelled” and “The Outfield.” He also earned his own Netflix reality show called “Chasing Cameron,” although the show has received a mixed reception from both critics and fans. He is now primarily a social media influencer, as he’s collected a whopping over 16 million followers on Twitter and 21 million on Instagram.
#7: Thomas Sanders
Thomas Sanders was easily one of the most successful Vine stars, as his Storytime and Disney Pranks series became some of the most popular videos in Vine history. Since the end of Vine, Sanders has remained popular on social
media. He continues to post Vine-styled videos on his Instagram and Snapchat accounts, and longer videos on YouTube, where his channel has amassed nearly three million subscribers. It’s there that he features the web series
“Sanders Sides,” wherein he personifies different aspects of his personality to tackle various conflicts. He also continues to sing on YouTube, often performing both covers and original songs.
#6: Lele Pons
Eleonora "Lele" Pons Maronese is arguably the most successful Viner of all time. She was the first to reach one billion loops, and she was even invited to the White House to meet Michelle Obama. Luckily, her success has transferred to numerous creative outlets. She has attained numerous acting roles in short films and TV shows, and she will serve as the host for the upcoming season of Mexico’s version of “The Voice” in 2018. She has also launched a jewelry collection, written a novel based on her teenage experiences called Surviving High School, and released the smash hit “Dicen”. She’s been busy!
#5: Brittany Furlan
Brittany Furlan attempted to become an actress before actually becoming one of the most successful entertainers on Vine. She eventually gained a huge following and was even named one of TIME’s 30 Most Influential People on the Internet in 2015, as she was the most popular female Viner at the time. In 2018 she appeared in a movie called “The Unicorn” which premiered at SXSW. Furlan also announced, on Instagram, her engagement to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. She is also reportedly developing a comedy show with Seth Green, but there are no real details on that possibility as of yet.
#4: King Bach
Andrew Bachelor (best known by his character’s moniker King Bach) posted his first vine in April of 2013. Nearly two years later, he took the mantle as the most-followed Viner with nearly seventeen million followers and six billion loops. Bach also took to YouTube and created his very popular channel BachelorsPadTv. King Bach has also become a successful actor. He has appeared in TV shows like “Black Jesus” and “Workaholics,” and numerous movies, including “Fifty Shades of Black.” He is currently set to appear in a Netflix movie called “Rim of the World,” which follows the adventures of four teenagers during an alien invasion.
#3: Bo Burnham
Bo is undoubtedly one of the most successful entertainers to emerge from the Internet. Bo first became prominent in 2006 when he posted songs to the fledgling YouTube. He took this popularity and ran with it, creating a distinct brand of musical comedy that became hugely popular on the site, as well as on numerous later vines (he also did hilarious non-musical vines). He soon transitioned into a successful stand-up comedy and acting career. 2018 has arguably been his most successful and popular year yet, as he not only directed Chris Rock’s first stand-up special in ten years, but also “Eighth Grade” which many critics called one of the best movies of the year.
#2: Logan Paul
Now here’s a name that has not stayed out of the news. Both Logan and his brother Jake rose to prominence on Vine, with Logan ranking as the tenth most popular Viner in 2015. Since that time, he has done… pretty much everything. He’s started a YouTube channel, acted in some movies and YouTube Premium exclusives like “Foursome,” released some singles, and began an amateur boxing career. However, he is perhaps better known for his numerous controversies, which have included tasering dead rats, taking a sick fish out of a pond, and, worst of all filming a suicide victim in Japan’s Aokigahara forest.
#1: Shawn Mendes
Like Bo Burnham, Canadian musician Shawn Mendes has capitalized on his social media popularity to launch a fantastic career. Mendes became insanely popular on Vinearound 2013 when he began posting six second cover songs, which were highly praised. He soon attracted the notice of Island Records, who signed him in May of 2014. Since that time, he has released three studio albums, all of which have debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, featuring smash hit singles like”Stitches,” “Treat You Better,” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”. He is set to embark on his next world tour in 2019, and we’re pretty sure his shows will last longer than six seconds each!
