Ooh, that's a terrible way to go. Join Ashley as he counts down the deaths in anime that were tiers above other in terms of gruesomeness, as seen in such hit anime as "Demon Slayer", "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure", "Dragon Ball Z", "Psycho-Pass", "Attack on Titan", "Danganronpa", "Dorohedoro", "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans", "Bleach", and more!
Top 10 Worst Ways To Die In Anime Who knew there were so many creative ways to suffer a gruesome demise? Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Worst Ways to Die In Anime. For this list, we’ll be looking at the methods of death in anime that were unique and brutal in equal measure. All of a sudden, your average decapitation doesn’t sound so bad.

#10: Mushroom’d

“Dorohedoro” (2020) We’ve all heard of the dangers of magic mushrooms, but this takes things to disturbing new levels. As the boss of the sorcerers going around and wrecking lives for the inhabitants of Hole, En had already shown himself to be a hardass who doesn’t care much for the sanctity of life. This was doubled when we saw how his preferred means of magical murder happened to involve turning his enemies into mushrooms…which he then ate. I mean, having a thing for the shrooms is one thing but…does it still count as cannibalism if you’re an edible fungus at the time of consumption?

#9: Death by Cockpit

“Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” (2015-17) If there was anyone in this series we hoped would end up as a casualty of war, it would be this entitled prick. For all his bravado and talk of avenging his comrades, Kujan was a coward to his core. Needless to say we were hoping his send-off would be morbidly satisfying, and we weren’t disappointed! Despite being heavily wounded, Akihiro uses his last ounce of strength to put the squeeze on the Gjallerhorn elite via some industrial seized tweezers, crushing him inside his own mecha.

#8: Acid Cocoon

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019) Remember that spider demon that was indoctrinated into Rui’s messed up family? Remember all the abuse inflicted on her and how she feared for her life lest she be tortured and killed by her new brother? Well take all that sympathy and toss it right out the window, because the way in which this girl kills off her victims is nasty! Getting wrapped in a cocoon of webbing is claustrophobic enough, but having it slowly fill with acidic goo that will slowly melt you into paste? Take your arachnophobia and turn it up to eleven!

#7: Lethal Eliminator

Top 10 Lethal Anime Techniques

“Psycho-Pass” series (2012-) Because in the future, we don’t settle criminal matters with bullets or a judiciary system, we use a wave of plasma that causes bodies to swell up and explode like something out of the Thing. Messy yet effective. The Dominator is truly one of the most badass yet equally disturbing pieces of neo noir weaponry ever to be animated. Not just because of the whole “make your torso explode” schtick, but also because it judges your mental and emotional state on the spot, to the point where in some circumstances, even an innocent soul could potentially be judged as a target. Click click boom.

#6: Cell’s Absorption

“Dragon Ball Z” (1989-96) The Ultimate creation of Dr. Gero, Cell was well known for killing off many many people with a wide variety of techniques, but for our money, he was at his most savage while he was still in his first form. Using his spiked tail, Cell would impale whichever innocent crossed his path and then proceed to slurp up their insides. While this technique was short lived, seeing him take out that rich guy as he desperately tried to escape still haunts us to this day.

#5: All the Executions

Top 10 Worst Anime of 2020

“Danganronpa: The Animation” (2013) Have to hand it to Junko, at least she’s committed to the whole despair thing. How else do you explain how she was not only willing to take her own life so gleefully, but had the fortitude to endure all the previous executions one after another? Pelted by baseballs, tossed around an electric cage, set on fire, wacked around by a bulldozer, launched into space, and eventually crushed into bloody chunks. We can’t say she didn’t deserve all of it after all the shit she put everybody through, but it’s still a gnarly way to leave the mortal coil!

#4: Chow Time

“Attack on Titan” (2013-) We’ve seen plenty of examples of poor souls getting crunched up by these giant humanoids, but none succeeded in unsettling our stomachs quite like the fate of dear Bertholt. Of course, the guy was actually a Shifter who had caused untold havoc behind the walls and was responsible for hundreds of death, but even so, watching a recently transformed Armin slowly close the literal jaws of death around him while Bertie screams for mercy was…somewhat nauseating. Guess you really do reap what you sow. Don’t forget to floss.

#3: Centuries Long Suffering

“Bleach” (2004-12) Moral of the story; never challenge a mad scientist to a battle of wits, because not only will he find a way to outdo you, but will devise numerous, horrible means by which to end your fragile existence. Just look at what he did to Szayel Aporro. It wasn’t enough to just stab him through the heart, but thanks to some self-made poison, reduced his sense of time to such a degree that the ten seconds it takes for the blade to kill him feels like centuries to the Espada. We imagine that stings a bit.

#2: Twisted

“Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World” (2016) Not sure what’s more painful – getting all of your limbs broken and contorted to absurd degrees, or that it happened to Rem. Just goes to show that Betelgeuse and his trembling brain have a terrible taste in waifus, since he and his cult of sin had no issue in uses their dark magic to torture and kill the beloved oni in such a vicious fashion. Sure, all of it got rewound eventually, but it was still a hellish viewing experience. At least she’ll never lose a game of twister ever again!

#1: Gold Experience Requiem

“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (2018-19) When you tango with Giorno Giorvanna, you’d best prepare yourself, because not only will all your opposition amount to muda, but you’ll receive a fate far worse than a mafioso style execution. After his Stand ascended to the realm of godhood courtesy of the mysterious arrow, Gold Experience was granted the power to nullify practically everything, removing the effect from any cause – even death itself. Hence why Diavolo found himself on an endless carousel of painful ends and sudden rebirths. Never underestimate a Gangstar’s capacity for revenge, especially one with such smouldering blonde locks.
