The burning question on people’s minds is “who is Lil Tay?” The rapper and overnight Instagram sensation with over 2 million followers refers to herself as the “youngest flexer of the century”, but has never revealed her real name. She’s only 9 years old but has already managed to crack the hierarchies of the social media world. She’s even caught the eye of YouTube and Instagram juggernaut Jake Paul thanks to her no holds barred videos and controversial antics. The two have made a handful of videos together, each more outlandish than the last.

Lil Tay’s meteoric rise to the top of the social media world was met with a considerable amount of backlash from concerned adults… and rightfully so. She was invited along with her mom and brother to appear on “Good Morning America” and journalist Juju Chang didn’t hold back. She was quick to question whether Lil Tay’s act was “exploitation” or “borderline abusive” on the part of her mother. Lil Tay’s response? “No one is forcing me to do this.” Fair enough, but when it comes from the mouth of a child still in single digits rocking an oversized hoodie and track pants on national TV, you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt.

Despite her brash persona, expletive-filled rants about her numerous luxury cars and mansions and the fact that she’s still just a kid, Lil Tay actually has some pretty inspiring dreams for her future. According to Alex Goller Gelbard, a consultant who’s worked closely with the young up and comer over the past few months, Lil Tay “wants to speak in motivational videos.” He says that Lil Tay believes her videos have the potential to motivate other youngsters to achieve their own goals. Her heart is clearly in the right place; her execution on the other hand…well, you can decide for yourself.

Immediately after breaking onto the scene people began to wonder: who was actually behind this eccentric 9-year old’s rise to fame? Well, it was soon discovered that her 16-year-old brother, Jason, was managing her. Not only that, but it appears that he’s much more than her manager, actively telling her what to do in her videos and occasionally losing his temper when she gets a line wrong.
