Top 10 Video Game Characters That Should Not Have Survived
#10: Rico Rodriguez “Just Cause Series” (2006-)
Rico Rodriguez from the Just Cause series is a daring and charismatic operative known for his high-octane, explosive missions. Equipped with a grappling hook and parachute, he takes on powerful dictators and corrupt organizations, and SOMEHOW lives to tell the tale. Some mathematical gamers have estimated that Rico has killed 112,000 people in over 4 countries. And somehow, he is still standing. Those are odds that I wouldn’t bet on.
#9: Kratos “God of War Series” (2005-)
Kratos consistently earns a spot on any list of video game badasses, and it's easy to see why given the Ghost of Sparta's violent endeavors. He has survived countless battles with mythological monsters, been sent to the underworld more times than Hades, and returned from multiple suicide attempts. His relentless defiance infuriates the gods, as he persistently emerges from every dark pit they cast him into, with his thirst for revenge only intensifying. Much like Joel from The Last of Us, every epic protagonist eventually meets their maker, so what makes Kratos so special? He’s a god? So are half the bosses he takes on, next excuse please.
#8: Isaac Clarke “Dead Space” (2008)
Necromorphs who are particularly dangerous due to their ability to release explosive gas when attacked, which can deal massive damage. Brutes who are extremely resilient and can cause severe damage with their powerful melee attacks. Enhancers who are known for their speed and relentless attacks, making them difficult to escape from or fight effectively. Isaac Clarke struggles against these creatures alongside isolation, and limited resources. And somehow .. He’s still kicking.
#7: Mario “Super Mario Bros.” (1985-)
Mario obviously has taken on more than any average plumber could chew. Even facing Bowser is a task that should have seen him squished and buried instantly. Yet, he continues to win time and time again. The thing that should have taken him down more than anything else is the mushrooms, as he consumes mushroom after mushroom with body changing effects. The fact that not a single one has gone bad in his stomach is a miracle of indescribable levels.
#6: Lara Croft “Tomb Raider Series” (2001-)
Much like Nathan Drake, Lara Croft’s relentless quest for treasure has landed the English archaeologist in numerous perilous situations. She has battled tigers, skeletons, a kraken, yetis, and even a dinosaur .. No that can’t be right .. NOPE that’s correct, a freaking dinosaur. Throughout her adventures, she has faced both real-world and supernatural threats. Her closest brush with death occurred at the end of Tomb Raider: Underworld, when she narrowly escaped demise while attempting to thwart a doomsday device poised to unleash the wrath of Norse mythology. How she is getting away with all this is beyond us .. Perhaps it’s the triangular bussom
#5: Ellie Williams “The Last of Us Series” (2013)
Ellie Williams has taken on all manner of danger. Soldier, zombies, stalkers and raiders, somehow even at the age of 14, she always managed to come out on top without so much as a little mental trauma. But, the one incident that is beyond the luck of any other, is the fact that she was bitten by a zombie and survived. As far as we are aware, no other living human is immune to the zombie virus, which means we’re looking at a potential one in a billion chance that Ellie came out of that zombie bite alive. That is some serious luck.
#4: Jak “Jak Series” (2001)
Much in the same vein as Ellie Willaims (surprisingly), Jak has encountered a load of incidents that should have taken his life. Regular fights with enemies, odds stacked against him when facing tough bosses, and living a danger filled life, he should probably have kicked the bucket already. But it’s one particular incident that we are surprised he managed to survive, and that was his two year imprisonment, and experimentation by the ruthless Errol. For 2 years Jak was infused with Dark eco, a substance that we know instantly kills most people who touch it, and would kill us in the first game were we to fall into it. His bodies ability to take in the dark eco and turn it into powers, is (much like Ellie) a one in a billion chance.
#3: Kassandra/Alexios “Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey” (2018)
During a flashback sequence, we get the opportunity to see Alexios as a baby, and Kassandra as a small child, what a wonderful and wholesome moment .. Oh wait no, Alexios is sentenced to death and Kassandra has to stand there and watch. Ignoring how ludicrous it is for a baby to be sentenced to death, we witness Alexios being thrown from a mountain, somewhat by Kassandra who was trying to save him, though he was going to be thrown regardless. Kassandra is then herself thrown from the mountain by her father. We can’t stress this enough you guys, it’s a freaking mountain, not a hill, a mountain, and they both survive … HOW!?
#2: John Price “Call of Duty series” (2007-)
The on-again, off-again hero of Call of Duty is either incredibly lucky or exceptionally skilled, as he manages to escape from some very precarious situations. He's faced Russian ultranationalists, US traitors, and some of the toughest terrorists, often by rappelling through windows, jumping from helicopters, and unleashing chaos. He was nearly beaten to death by General Shepard at the end of Modern Warfare 2, only to be saved by Soap. Somehow, age doesn’t beat this man, and neither do his enemies, because he continues to epically trudge on.
#1: Nathan Drake “Uncharted Series” (2007-)
We could just look at the opening of Uncharted 2, and ask ourselves HOW THE HELL IS HE STILL ALIVE!? The treasure hunter Nathan Drake, consistently finds himself in the most perilous and desperate situations, yet he always manages to escape. While we admire his resilience, we sometimes wonder if Nate has made a deal with the devil to survive such life-threatening scenarios. Whether it’s falling from planes, battling mutated sailors, or being pursued by military trucks, Drake has faced it all. The opening of each game has become infamous for showing us the toughest situations a person could face, yet somehow, he walks away .. Or crawls away?
