Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Fall 2017

They can’t get here soon enough! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the top ten anticipated anime of fall 2017.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the anime we are most excited to debut this fall! This includes new properties as well as brand new seasons of previously running shows. So long as they didn’t originally start during the summer or earlier, they’re more than in with a shot!

#10: “Himouto! Umaru-chan R” (2017)

She’s baaaack. That’s right, one of anime’s most divisive characters is set to make her return in a second season that promises to be filled with just as much humour, awkwardness and hamster hoodies as before! Whether you find her split personalities rather endearing or the most obnoxious thing to ever be conceived, Umaru will still find a way to inadvertently charm you into watching her many misadventures. Will her perfect outdoor persona finally break apart to reveal her inner layabout? Either way, get ready for a lot of junk food, outbursts and cuteness!

#9: “Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond” (2017)

Sometimes you just want to kick back and experience the thrill of a solid shounen anime, and for the most part we certainly got it with the original Blood Blockade Battlefront, whose visuals and stellar cast of characters made it a standout of 2015. Now’s it back, and from the looks of things Leonardo and the rest of Libra are up to their usual crazy antics. Explosions, monsters, all-seeing eyes and plenty of slapstick, all contained with some rather stunning animation. Come on Studio Bones, give us another winner!

#8: “March Comes in like a Lion 2nd Season” (2017)

Oh boy, we’re already starting to tear up! From the trailer alone, this continuation of last year’s heart-warming slice of life juggernaut already seems like it’s going full throttle when it comes to layering on the feels. As Rei continues to try and overcome his isolation as well as improve himself as a shogi player, it appears that he’s not only in the with chance to build new bridges, but will have to work extra hard to maintain the happiness he’s built with the adorable Kawamoto sisters. Besides, how can you resist a series that has no end of cute cats?

#7: “Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series” (2017)

The original Kino’s Journey was a rather unique series that gave us an endearing heroine as well as an examination of the human psyche when exposed to various cultures and customs. It was haunting, thought-provoking and oddly tender at time. Now, Kino and her talking motorcycle Hermes are back, albeit with an absolutely stunning visual do-over. While the scenery certainly sparkles, we’re all eager to see just who and what Kino encounters along her travels. Oh, and you’d best not mess with her guys, she’s damn quick on the draw!

#6: “Mr. Osomatsu 2” (2017)

Are you prepared for anime’s most chaotic sextuplets to a make a return? Trick question, no one is ready for the Matsuno brothers! Hot off the heels of their fiendishly funny first season, we can easily expect the likes of Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Juushimatsu and Todomatsu to get up to all sorts of R-rated shenanigans. Will any of them manage to get a job? Find a nice girl? Actually mature into respectable adults? Of course not, but we can’t wait to see them try!

#5: “Inuyashiki” (2017)

A sweet but lonely old man is turned into a cyborg with extraordinary abilities due to an intergalactic explosion, and as a result vows to help and protect the less fortunate. All the while a sociopathic teenager, who was also transformed by the explosion, goes on a killing spree. All of which leads to the ultimate clash of hero and villain. And the whole thing is brought to us by the guy who gave us Gantz. Sign us the hell up! Just be ready for a lot of blood, death and unpleasantness along the way, since from the look of things this series isn’t going to pull any punches.

#4: “Food Wars! The Third Plate” (2017)

Who’s ready for a third helping? In a triumphant and tasty return, the third season of Food Wars once again takes us back to Totsuki Academy, only this time it doesn’t look like Soma and the others are in for an easy time. From what we can gather, it seems like they’ll be testing their culinary skills against the academy’s best; the Council of Ten. If that means we get more epic cooking showdowns and mouth-watering animations, then all we can say is bon appetit!

#3: “Gintama Season Six” (2017)

How much more trouble can a silver-haired samurai get into? Do you really need to ask by this point? Allegedly, this sixth season will be adapting the Popori Arc portion of the manga as well as any unused gags that previous seasons omitted, meaning that you can expect to see plenty more outrageous humour this time around. Probably all at Gintoki’s expense, something we are totally fine with. Swords with clash, media will be satirised, fourth walls will be broken, and Odd Jobs Gin will undoubtedly get kicked to the curb! Ah, we missed you Gintama!

#2: “Black Clover” (2017)

This series has had quite the buzz around it for some time, some even claiming that if done right it’s on route to become the next Naruto or Bleach. Whether it will measure up or not remains to be decided, but from the looks of things it certainly has the makings of a hit. Two friends who contrast each other in every way possible yet still seek the same goal, giant weapons, plenty of magic and battle cries as well as a lead character with a big ass sword. Yep, sounds like the making of a shounen winner to us!

#1: “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” (2017)

For those that didn’t get a chance to see the three-part prequel known as “Those Awaiting a Star”, we highly suggest you check it out so to give you a taste of what expect going into this gorgeous series. Focusing a young woman called Chise, whose ability to see spirits ostracized her from society, we follow her as she tries to adapt to her strange new life as she finds herself as the apprentice of the monstrous-looking sorcerer Elias. Oh, and she’s also his bride to be. One thing’s for sure, putting aside the visual splendour and maelstrom of emotion, the series boasts what just might be the most unusual coupling in all of anime.
