10 Weirdest Bosses in Black Myth Wukong

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re looking over the most bizarre bosses to emerge from this epic take on Wukong’s legend.

Cloudtreading Deer

Initially, this floating mammal appears to be another heaven-sent beast for Wukong’s successor to overcome. And it is…for its first phase. After knocking down a health-bar, the Deer will embrace its inner Bloodborne and start dishing out crazy damage. This sudden shift along with the gruesome color change is enough to make anyone stop and pause. Best not linger for too long though, this thing is swift and can do some real damage if you let it get its hoofs in you!

Quick as Fire, Fast as Wind

Just when we thought we had a handle on what types of bosses we’d be encountering along the way, along came a pair of giant heads to completely throw us for a loop. Elemental entities may be all too common, but having them take the shape of two snarky craniums who can bellow out wind and fire all over the arena was certainly an interesting direction to take. The only thing crazier being how easily they could be taken out by a monkey with a big stick!

Emerald-Armed Mantis

This one is a little different, since it isn’t so much the boss as it is the location of the showdown! Given the backdrop, fighting a mantis creature was already on our bingo cards. What wasn’t, was fighting one inside the bloodied belly of our boar bestie, that was now being sliced up by said mantis. That’s a lot to get our head around, even more so given the pained commentary while we fight for our lives against the mantis’ onslaught. We don’t want to imagine how bad the indigestion was…

The Duskveil

Once upon a time he was a divine progeny, who sometimes took the form of a giant rooster. Now he’s…an undead remnant that brings about a blood moon when you start to whittle down its health. Yeah, the Duskveil is the closest thing Black Myth has to an eldritch horror. With the crimson landscape paired with the black rain and sinister soundtrack, you’ll find yourself questioning if you’ve slipped into another genre entirely. Especially when it starts letting loose with those demonic projectiles!

Non-White

While we’re not explicitly saying that this is Wukong’s equivalent to the Joker…there are certainly parallels. A failed entertainer who found himself turned into a murderous psychopath who happens to wear the face of a man he killed…and can’t stop laughing. Sure, Non-White may not be as physically monstrous as other creatures fought across the game, but he certainly succeeded in leaving his mark thanks to a lethal combination of madness and bloodlust! It’s almost a shame he was wiped out so quickly!

Supreme Inspector

As an emissary for the Celestial Court, this winged warrior makes for one challenging encounter. Though we can’t exactly see it in a heavenly manner given that it’s face is a giant ominous, red hand. Pair that with its frequent use of blazing unicycles as attacks, and you have yourself a battle as surreal as it is staggering in difficulty. Apparently when the court wants something done, then send down the one creature that can deliver the ultimate cosmic bitch slap.

Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top

Battling against multiple yaoguai at this point in the game had almost become routine. That being said, this is by far the strangest duo you’re likely to encounter. The creatures themselves may be a basic pair of demonic warriors, but what makes them stand out is…their mode of transportation. Each wielding one half of a massive orb, it doesn’t take long before the entire battle becomes a bloody version of spinning teacups! It may be a prelude to a much grander battle, but it certainly left an impression!

Feng-Tail General

Completely switching mechanics, the reveal of this giant cricket bouncing around the map was something none of us were prepared for. While you don’t necessarily fight it, you are tasked with enduring its speed and magic. So long as your stamina and health can outlast it, you win. Given how well this game excels at rendering the eeriness and grotesqueness of its insectoid enemies, having to ride around on a colossal one is likely to make your skin crawl. Just don’t look it in the eyes.

Yellow Wind Sage

A giant rat with an inferiority complex, manipulating the wind of the desert, armed with a trident, while casually carrying around the severed head of a buddha. That pretty much encapsulates everything wonderful and uncanny about the boss battles across this game. Not only is this former prince one of the most demanding in terms of combat, but the way in which he’ll casually whip up tornadoes while hulking around his former master’s head certainly paints quite the confounding image.

Captain Wise-Voice

One of four captains dotted around the world in service to their unseen prince, and let’s just say each is the furthest thing from human. Chief among them being Wise-Voice. Not only was he one of the game’s hardest fights during its initial release, but has a form that’s still tricky to get our heads around. A golden sphere, housed in a frame resembling a misshapen beast – who also comes equipped with the power to slow down time and bring the thunder! Whether you consider it a terrible or intriguing fight, its presentation alone is enough to inspire unease.
