7 Things You Should Know About Killzone 3

The final chapter in the PlayStation 3’s first-person sci-fi series is finally here! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be filling you in on everything you should know about Killzone 3 by Guerilla Games and Sony Entertainment.

Number 1: The Plot

Picking up immediately where the previous game left off, players once again take on the role of Sev, who is accompanied by his loyal partner Rico.

In this chapter, the duo continues to fight against the red-eyed forces of the Helghast Empire in defense of a besieged Earth.

Having previously defeated their dictator, Killzone 3 begins with the empire becoming engulfed with internal struggle for control, and you are trapped within the crossfire of these various political factions. These factions include a pack of psychopaths and a conniving industrialist.

With no reinforcements to support you, your mission is to regroup with the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance in order to make a last stand against their invasion of Earth.

Number 2: The Environments

As fans have come to expect, Killzone 3 delivers a true sense that the entire world is being laid to waste. Shifting from the grand military operations of the past to smaller guerrilla operations, missions pack a ton of variation and take you through several harsh environments that push polygons farther then other shooters have before. These extremely detailed environments include a vast nuclear wasteland, an arctic landscape, a lethal alien jungle, and an outer space battle.

Number 3: Cinematic Feel and Tone

Despite the shocking apocalyptic settings found in Killzone 3, the adventure will have a lighter tone than its predecessors, which have come to be regarded as overly dark. Ditching this extremely bleak method of storytelling, this game will instead create a more cinematic action experience. This is complete with a fresh perspective on the narrative, better character development, and the opportunity to learn much more about the Helghan culture.

Number 4: Combat and Weapons

Resembling the gameplay mechanics of its predecessor, there have been several positive tweaks and changes. These include shedding much of its heavy feel in exchange for more action-friendly targeting system. In addition, it has revamped your melee abilities, adding new brutal attacks, which you can string together to form combos.

Plus, in addition of having a sidearm and regular weapon slot, your character has a third slot reserved for serious firepower, like RPG’s and miniguns.

Number 5: Multiplayer Modes

Supporting a new offline split-screen co-op for two players, you can take on the campaign with a pal sitting beside you. However, co-op is not available online, and the multiplayer doesn’t support split-screen gaming.

Despite this, Killzone 3’s online multiplayer supports three fantastic game modes.

The first of these is called “Guerilla Warfare”. It is a classic team death match that supports up to 16 players.

Second is “Warzone”, a mission-based mode with seven possible objectives. These include Assassination, Body Count, Capture and Hold, Search and Destroy and Search and Retrieve. This mode supports up to 24 players per map.

And finally, “Operations” has one team try and take over the other’s base.

Plus, a separate offline mode called “Botzone” is available. This allows you to practice and hone your skill offline, against computer-controlled players.

Number 6: Multiplayer Maps and Classes

With a total of eight multiplayer maps on the disk, players will be able to take the fight to several breathtaking locations. These include a Highway, a Crater, a Boulevard, Frozen Dam, Snowdrift, Graveyard and even a Jungle setting. Each map introduces special additions to spice up the gameplay, such as featuring jetpacks, rocket launchers, miniguns and Mortar Beacons. Of course, more maps will become available later on as downloadable content, including favorites from past games in the series.

Within the Multiplayer selection options, there are five character classes players can choose from. These include the Marksman, Engineer, Field Medic, Tactician and Infiltrator. Each has special abilities and weapons. For example, the Marksman can cloak, and the Infiltrator can disguise himself.

Number 7: Vehicles and Move Support

Adding the use of jetpacks and mech-suits, players never leave the first person perspective. Instead of taking you into a third-person perspective, they act as ability enhancements that pack a ton of giggle enducing firepower.

Occasionally, you will take on frequent rail segments, but thankfully they provide a Hollywood feel, which is also a great way to enjoy the game’s move-support.

That’s right, with motion-control gaming becoming standard on the PlayStation 3, the Move controller can be used during the entire Campaign.

Conclusion:

Featuring stereoscopic 3D, the best graphics currently available for the genre, addictive multiplayer and an epic finale; Killzone 3 is one PlayStation 3 exclusive that should not be missed.
