Top 10 Ahsoka and Anakin
#10: Anakin & Ahsoka’s Reunion
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
When “The Clone Wars” was initially canceled after Season 6, it left a lot of dangling threads for Ahsoka Tano. We especially wanted one last reunion with Anakin before he turned to the Dark Side, and we thankfully got it when it returned with Season 7 on Disney+. Anakin and Ahsoka briefly cross paths as they head off to different missions, Anakin to handle General Grievous and Ahsoka to stop Maul. It’s a tender moment, though, as Anakin returns Ahsoka’s lightsabers that he’s been taking care of since she left the Jedi Order. It’s bittersweet, as we ultimately know the dark future that awaits Anakin. But at least the last memory Ahsoka will have of her Master as she knows him is a happy one.
#9: Competitive Spirit
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
One of the things we love about Anakin and Ahsoka’s rapport is the very unique way they act as Master and Padawan. They can find amusement in war so long as they are with each other. At the start of Season 2’s excellent Geonosis arc, the Republic forces try to take down the Separatist droid factories on the desert planet. They meet both droid and native Geonosian resistance, but Anakin and Ahsoka manage to turn the daunting task into a competition to see how many clankers they can demolish. Whereas so many Masters-Padawan relationships can be serious, it’s always heartening to watch these two find levity in the most dire circumstances.
#8: Saving an Injured Anakin
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
It’s easy to forget just how young Ahsoka is in the early seasons of “Clone Wars.” But she more than proves her ability as an autonomous Jedi in this two-part story arc on Maridun. When Anakin is severely injured in a battle and their ship unexpectedly travels through hyperspace, Ahsoka is placed in an unfamiliar role while stranded on a strange planet. Ahsoka wants to tend to Anakin, but Jedi Aayla Secura convinces her that they need to find help for him elsewhere. It’s a good lesson for Ahsoka, as she has to learn to overcome her attachments to do what’s necessary and right. Only by leaving Anakin behind is Ahsoka able to save him.
#7: Anakin Accepts Ahsoka
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008)
As beloved as Ahsoka is today, it’s interesting to think back to her debut in the animated “Clone Wars” movie and how hated she was initially. Much like Anakin, we too are dubious at the prospect of him getting a young Padawan, and they don’t exactly get off on the right foot during their first conflict together. During the Battle of Christophsis, Ahsoka gets under Anakin’s skin at just about every turn. Even though Ahsoka serves to ground Anakin through his tutelage, all he can initially see is her recklessness, even when she’s saving his life. It’d be a tough first outing for any Padawan, but once the fighting is over, Anakin accepts her, promising a bright future for the two.
#6: Anakin Teaches Ahsoka About War
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
Though the two have plenty of bright spots, Ahsoka certainly learns many hard lessons as well. When she’s first given command over a squadron in a space battle, Ahsoka ignores orders to have them retreat, and as a result, loses more pilots than necessary. Ahsoka is distraught, but Anakin teaches her that loss is inevitable in war. Instead of benching her, though, Anakin gives Ahsoka another opportunity to command soon thereafter, giving her the confidence she needs. It’s an important lesson for Ahsoka to learn, and one that later echoes in Ahsoka’s live-action series when we see a memory of her and Anakin during the Battle of Ryloth.
#5: Bravery on Geonosis
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
Going back to the Geonosis arc from Season 2 of “The Clone Wars,” this moment proves just how strong the bond between Anakin and Ahsoka is. Early in the episode, Anakin continually interrupts Ahsoka as she commands her squad, unable to trust her leadership instincts. However, Ahsoka later proves her abilities to get the job done when she and fellow Padawan Barriss Offee sacrifice themselves to destroy a droid factory. Barriss’s master Luminara Unduli is ready to mourn for them, but Anakin refuses to believe they’re gone. By keeping his faith, Anakin is able to locate them under the debris and save their lives. They may go through their spats, but their connection remains powerful.
#4: One Last Lesson
“Ahsoka” (2023)
Seeing an older Ahsoka reunite with Anakin in the World Between Worlds was everything we could’ve wanted, but that doesn’t mean that it’s without serious conflict. Anakin seeks to teach Ahsoka one final lesson from beyond the grave: to either live or die. Their duel takes them through multiple key memories, as Anakin continues to press Ahsoka to fight on. Ahsoka tries to resist, but Anakin’s insistence and the presence of his Dark Side persona seek to force it out of her. Eventually, Ahsoka is able to gain the upper hand on her former Master, choosing to live in more ways than one.
#3: Ahsoka’s Death & Resurrection
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
While our principal characters ultimately don’t remember the ordeal, their experiences in the realm of Mortis prove to be extremely telling to their overall character arcs. After being possessed by the Son, the embodiment of the Dark Side, Ahsoka is later mercilessly struck down by him. The Daughter, the embodiment of the Light Side, is also mortally wounded, but Anakin’s pleas to save his Padawan compels the Daughter to have her remaining life force transferred into Ahsoka. Using Anakin as a conduit, the Daughter brings Ahsoka back to life in her last act, reuniting her with her Master. As much as this arc reveals shocking truths about the nature of the Force, we’ll always remember it for these profound character developments.
#2: Ahsoka Leaves the Jedi Order
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-14; 2020)
Perhaps no storyline is more momentous for Ahsoka than the one that sees her being framed for murder. Unaware of her innocence, the Jedi Council actually banishes Ahsoka from the Order. Anakin however stubbornly refuses to accept her sentencing, and seeks out to find the true perpetrator. While Anakin does ultimately apprehend a disillusioned Barriss and Ahsoka is welcomed back into the Order, she shockingly walks away. Anakin pleads with her to stay, but Ahsoka knows that her place is no longer with those she used to trust. It’s a somber moment, but a pivotal one that forever places them on different paths.
#1: Master vs. Apprentice
“Star Wars Rebels” (2014-18)
Despite their bond, Ahsoka is ultimately haunted by what Anakin has become, unaware of his new identity as Vader until over a decade after the Clone Wars. That’s what makes their reunion and clash in the Season 2 finale of “Rebels” so powerful. In the Sith Temple on Malachor, Ahsoka saves Ezra from Vader and finally accepts the fate of her former Master as she confronts him. What follows is one of the finest duels in “Star Wars,” but things get even more emotional when Ahsoka damages Vader’s helmet and exposes Anakin’s distorted face. Even at the risk of her life, Ahsoka refuses to walk away this time. But Vader’s thrall over Anakin persists, and they continue their duel in the crumbling temple.
