Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Spring 2020
Things might not be pretty right now, but at least we’ve got these anime to look forward to! Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Spring 2020.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the upcoming releases and sequel series set to welcome in the spring! Sadly, don’t expect to see the likes of Re;Zero Season Two on this list, on account of it being pushed back! Seriously, we’re starting to expect this is all the work of Dark Reunion…
#10: “Fruits Basket” Season Two (2020)
Fans of this shoujo classic could not have been more thrilled with this second adaptation. The visuals, the characterization, the way it lovingly followed the source material to the letter, honestly this show is the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood of the reverse-harem genre. With Tohru’s bonds with the Soma family stronger than ever, especially now that she has seen and accepted Kyo’s other half, the family curse has never been closer to being broke. We’re eager to see this iconic title get the ending it deserves.
#9: “Tower of God” (2020)
This is it people. The mahwa invasion is upon us. Based on the much-beloved Korean webtoon, this series is set to stand as the first of what will likely be an influx of dark, whimsical and intriguing titles. After his one and only friend disappears into the mysterious tower that he’s spent his life living under, young prisoner Twenty-Fifth Bam infiltrates the enigmatic obelisk to try and get her back – paving the way for a slew of deadly confrontations, ancient secrets, and a whole lot of unanswered questions!
#8: “Kingdom” Season Three (2020)
While it sadly shares the curse of fellow masterpiece Berserk for having rather…questionable adaptations, it’s popularity over in the land of the rising sun can’t be denied, which makes its upcoming third season a must watch for those who adore its legendary source material. As he continues to strive to become a Great General of Heaven, Li Xin’s blood-soaked trail of conquest is set to come to a head as the war between China’s seven warring states escalates to new heights. As long as the action is solid and the visuals aren’t garbage, we’re hoping this long-suffering show can find redemption!
#7: “Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens” (2020)
We know it doesn’t have Kaiba in it, nor will it have anything as captivating as the Battle City tournament but…come on! A duellist can dream can’t he! From what we’ve seen so far Sevens looks like it has the potential to be a lot of light hearted fun. Given how it’s coming out on the twentieth anniversary of the original plus the new format for the actual card game, we’re hoping that Yuga and the rest will be able to throw down with the big boys.
#6: “My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” (2020)
Of course we have more isekai coming our way this year, but at the very least this upcoming title appears to be taking a page out of Cautious Hero’s book and approaching it with a meta premise and crazy comedy. After discovering that she’s been reincarnated into her favourite video game as the villain, a former otaku has to do all she can to avoid the game reaching its canonical ending, given how, surprise surprise, the bad girl dies at the end. With a heroine to sabotage, romances to convert, and dating simulator logic to overcome, Katarina is going to one busy villainess.
#5: “Food Wars” Season Five (2020)
You just can’t keep a good chef down. Even after defeating the likes of Azami Nakiri and Central, Soma and the rest of the new Elite 10 still have their work cut out for them. With a sinister new chef working his way into Totsuki Academy, it looks like we’re going to get even more opportunities to see the gang serve up some god-tier food. We’re still a little trepidatious however, since this final arc is widely regarded as the worst due to its pacing and conclusion. All we can hope is that the anime can save it! Don’t do our boy dirty!
#4: “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” Season Two (2020)
Whether you’re here to watch Chika strut her stuff again or are just desperate to see Shinomiya and Shirogane FINALLY confess their feelings towards each other, this second outing of one of last years most delightful new titles promises to be as heart-warming as it will be hilarious. With their love for one another only matched by their stubborn refusal to confess, we’re hoping for plenty more failed attempts from these two as they try to outwit the other into admitting their heartfelt desires. All the while Chika does what Chika does best and steal every scene inbetween.
#3: “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU” Season Three (2020)
After what felt like an eternity, the Service Club are back for what could be their final venture. While we’re sure that there will be plenty of blunders, cute hijinks and philosophical discussions on how teenagers and their cliques can go stuff it, we all know the real reason why everyone is so amped for their return. Yukino or Yui? The ice princess or the ray of sunshine? Come on Hachiman! You’ve got to choose one or the other this season or our heads will burst!
#2: “BNA: Brand New Animal” (2020)
While Darling in the Franxx left us wholly conflicted, Promare was a damn good time. Now the slate is wiped clean for Trigger to blow us away with their wild visuals, signature nuances and endearingly wacko characters in a brand-new project. After finding herself randomly transformed into an anthropomorphic takuni, a high school student flees to a haven city for humanoid animals, determined to discover the truth behind her sudden change, with her only hope resting in the hands of a hardboiled detective, who just happens to be a white wolf. Don’t let us down guys!
#1: “Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld” Season Two (2020)
Throughout all the trials and tribulations of the Alicization arc this series has truly been something special. And now it's coming to an end in the final battle for the virtual landscape of Underworld. With virtual players from the U.S set to dominate the allied kingdoms, it falls to Asuna, Alice and the rest to lead the charge to protect the peace in both the real world and the vitual…with maybe with a little bit of help from a recently reawakened Kirito.
