#10: The Egyptian God Cards

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-04)

While freely used throughout the Battle City Tournament, we can’t forget that these three monster cards were sealed away for a reason. Not only are they absurdly powerful and pretty much break the game when summoned, but they tend to bring about apocalyptic visions of the past and other shenanigans. Collectively, Slifer, Ra and Obelisk are immune to numerous card effects, can power themselves up to absurd levels of attack points, and if you’re a retro fan also did a number on your wallet during your childhood.

#9: Noad Nephesh

“Black Clover” (2017-)

The Devil knows no bounds when it comes to using magic many would consider unnatural. Among the legions of other crazy incantations he has at his disposal, the Word Soul Devil’s most outrageous spell is the ability to take the souls of the dead and send them hurtling into the future where they can stay suspended and ripe for reincarnation. While a tad on the convenient side, it was the key catalyst that allowed for such an excellent arc to happen in the first place!

Known as the Contradictory Curse, this style of magic not only renders the user immortal, but creates a miasma that kills anything it touches. Able to be manipulated and take on multiple forms, it’s Zeref’s trump card, and the reason he was able to waste so many mages. Said to be brought about by a god that rules over life and death, the fact a side effect allows the user to remain ageless and invulnerable speaks volumes as to why such dark magic was never meant to be used.

#7: Time Suspension

“Bleach” (2004-12)

It comes guaranteed with a life sentence should it be unleashed, though given how it distorts space, time and all the rest, you would have thought it would have been used in abundance against Aizen. Alas, the only time we see it used is when Tessai has to move everyone to Urahara’s laboratory in a flash, basically using the thing like an over-sized flash step. It’s one of the reasons that led to their exile, we just wished we could have seen it in action more!

#6: Dragon of the Darkness Flame

“Yu Yu Hakusho” (1992-94)

Countless demons have sought after this power, but all have failed and been burned to ashes as a result. At least until Hiei came along and made it his bitch. Sacrificing his arm and bonding it to his soul, the three eyed demon took this beast from the heart of Makai for himself, now able to summon it on command as a spiral of endlessly burning black fire. As you can imagine, it came in handy during the Dark Tournament when someone needed to get torched.

#5: Mafuba Wave

“Dragon Ball” (1986-89)

It may not have been able to do in either of the two Piccolos, but this forbidden technique was pretty much the be all and end all back during Goku’s younger years. The Evil Containment Wave is a sure-fire way to seal away a demon, or any other living creature, if you’re able to master it and find a suitable vessel. It’s so potent in fact that not even an ascended being like Kami was able to shrug it off, making the move a certified God-killer.

#4: Giga Slave

“Slayers” (1995-2009)

The Dragon Slave was already an attack to be feared, since with it Lina could smite the largest of kaiju with just one burst. Then there’s this upgrade – one so powerful that not even the fantasy land’s primordial beings could hope to survive against it. After all, it does involve Lina tapping into the Lord of Nightmares and snatching a fragment of its power, and considering the entity is the strongest thing in existence, that’s a hell of a boost. Borderline uncontrollable, there’s no coming back from this kaboom!

#3: Human Transmutation

“Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (2009-10)

There is one ironclad rule in alchemy – and that is to never use it in order to bring back the dead. Edward and Alphonse didn’t get the memo, as they attempted to resurrect their mother. This obviously came back to bite them when their experiment went awry. Not only does it fail to bring their mama back from the grave, but Ed ends up losing an arm and leg, while Al has entire body broken apart and sent hurtling into the Gate of Truth. Always heed the warnings!

#2: Zero

“Hellsing Ultimate” (2006-12)

Even when restrained, Alucard is an absolute monster who can tear apart his prey with his raw strength alone, or maybe summon up one of his familiars if he’s feeling extra naughty. So, what happens when he unleashes all the souls he’s gathered over the centuries? Not only does he revert to his original guise of Vlad the Impaler, but conjures an army of undead soldiers in such numbers that they’re practically a tidal wave made of blood and swords. All It takes is one sip and poof, you’re a part of Alucard’s personal hit squad.

#1: Eight Inner Gates

“Naruto” series (2002-17)

Forget about the Tailed Beasts and all that Sharingan nonsense, the deadliest jutsu that the shinobi ever developed is all in the muscles! By opening each gate, the body releases a monumental amount of chakra that continually elevates the user’s physical ability. The more gates you open, the stronger you get, though that also applies to the risk of death. By the time you start getting into the higher numbers, you’re breaking your own bones with every punch thrown, and if you open them all – you’re a goner, end of story.
