#10: “Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus” (2017)
Today’s first first look throws us back into the alternate world of the Wolfenstein gaming series, where the Nazis won World War Two. As a direct sequel to 2014’s “The New Order”, “Wolfenstein: The New Colossus” sees war-scarred good guy, B. J. Blazkowicz, mount a resistance to protect American soil. And this eight-minute E3 extended trailer gives us plenty to chew over. From Nazi-inspired ‘60s style film clips, to snippets showing Blazkowicz’ badass rebel group and some glorious glimpses of gory gameplay, it’s stacked from start to finish.
#9: “Pitch Perfect 3” (2017)
As the third and final film in the hugely successful Pitch Perfect trilogy, everyone’s favorite acapella group is back for one last encore performance. While the new trailer only features one song performed by the cast, it is jampacked with hilarious jokes from fan favorites such as Fat Amy. Ahem, or should we say, Fat Amy Winehouse. The Barden Bellas are finally out in the real world. Will the pressures of adulthood get in the way of their love of singing? Only time will tell!
#8: “Star Wars Battlefront II” (2017)
With excitement building for “Star Wars: Episode VIII” in cinemas, gamers got their latest glimpse of “Battlefront II” with the release of a gameplay trailer at E3. The two-minute clip gives us classic characters, vibrant worlds and an awesome arsenal of intergalactic weaponry. Darth Maul features prominently, alongside other familiar faces including Yoda, Chewie and Rey. Plus, there’s more footage for a hotly anticipated single-player campaign mode featuring Iden, a TIE fighter pilot for the Empire. ‘Unusual assignments’? We can’t wait to find out more.
#7: “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” (2017)
Get ready for a reunion unlike any other. The return of “Wet Hot American Summer” follows on from 2015’s “First Day of Camp”, which was itself a prequel to the 2001 original cult film. This trailer sees an a-list comedy cast all grown up, including original stars Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Ken Marino and H. Jon Benjamin, as well as the likes of Jason Scwartzman, Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig – to name just a few. The characters are older but not all that much wiser, and with this clip Netflix sets us up for more outlandish chaos than ever before.
#6: “American Made” (2017)
Another movie based on a real life story, “American Made” sees Tom Cruise step out as Barry Seal, a commercial airline pilot turned international drug smuggler, turned DEA operative. This high-octane teaser thrusts us into a turbulent world of weapons and white powder, as Barry aims to provide for his family in a highly unconventional way. But who can you trust, and how far can you go? Of course, amidst all the madness, Cruise is in his action movie element. And with Doug Liman, director of “The Bourne Identity” in charge, it’s sure to be one hell of a ride.
#5: “Beyond Good and Evil 2” (TBC)
After almost a decade of development hell, a second “Beyond Good and Evil” title appears to be finally happening. Ubisoft wowed E3 audiences with this trailer release, reintroducing gamers to wonderfully vivid worlds and a storyline which already has us hooked. There’s the mysterious disc, a fraudulent trade, an explosive chase scene and some starry-eyed space travel; all wrapped up with a suitably epic score. As a prequel playing out a few generations before original events, exact platforms are yet to be confirmed but it’s sure to be one of the most fun fourth gen games out there.
#4: “Coco” (2017)
Our next trailer sees a little boy lost in the Land of the Dead, but hold the horror. As scary as the idea sounds, with “Coco” Disney and Pixar take a journey into the afterlife, but turn it into a tour de force of colour and excitement. This teaser introduces us to a troupe of skeletal characters as Miguel, the lost little boy in question, becomes the first living person to set sights on a mystical kingdom. Having tackled toys, bugs, fish, cars and emotions in the past, leave it to Pixar to turn death into something magical – for one of the most anticipated animated films of the year.
#3: “Super Mario Odyssey” (2017)
In today’s highest-ranking gaming trailer, Nintendo’s leading light took E3 excitement to another level with the latest look at “Super Mario Odyssey”. A clip which focuses on Cappy, Mario’s now-sentient choice of headwear, we see the popular plumber pummel his enemies by throwing his hat at them. The clip also unveils Mario using Cappy to transform himself into otherwise unplayable objects, and there are snippets of traditional 3D and 2D gameplay. The possibilities for fun are apparently endless. Of all the worlds in all the games, New Donk City is one we simply cannot wait to explore.
#2: “Black Panther” (2018)
Having debuted in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War”, it’s time for the MCU’s newest recruit to take centre stage. The first look at “Black Panther” transports us to uncharted lands, as Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa, King of Wakanda. Framed by an interrogation scene involving Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis, this clip is an exploration of the El Dorado-esque nation, showcasing stunning costumes and fabulous sets. With the movie scheduled for release in February 2018, this trailer could be the first of a few. And so far, we love what we see.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
“Murder on the Orient Express” (2017)
“Swedish Dicks” (2016-)
“Stronger” (2017)
#1: “Game of Thrones” (2011-)
Released mere weeks before a return to Westeros, trailer two for the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” has sent the fan theory mill into overdrive. Taglined with the hashtag ‘Winter is here’, after over 6 years of turning the screw HBO are about to unleash what will surely be the harshest season ever witnessed. Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark takes a central role here, ambiguously promising at the trailer’s end that the ‘lone wolf dies’. In truth, given that season seven is set to be the shortest season yet, we’re expecting bloodshed at an unprecedented rate. And with all the major players staking their claim for rule, who will live and who will die? Bring it on.
