#10: Punch to the Face

“Hunter x Hunter” (2011-14) No matter what anyone said, in Gon’s mind he wasn’t a true Hunter until he had settled his score with the infamous magician who was aroused by strength and had an addiction to killing. Meeting once again inside Heaven’s Arena, the two duked it out in the final match, exchanging a rapid fire flurry of blows, with Gon unable to land one on the creepy clown given his fierce combat prowess. At least until he pulled a fast one, broke the stage as a distraction before landing that all important sock to the jaw.

#9: Outlaw Kiss

“Outlaw Star” (1998) Gene isn’t exactly the settling down type. After all he’s got his ship, his sidekick, his caster shells and a desire to discover the booty of the universe! Of course, that dream started to get a little murky as Melfina became a more prominent member of his crew. As time went by, Gene’s promise to help Melfina discover her truth became an afterthought to him, leaving Melfina to spiral into sadness. The fact Gene finally got it in his head she was worth more than any treasure and sealed their love so romantically was overwhelmingly heart-warming!

“Dr. Stone” (2019-) Turned into a statue for over three thousand years, awakened to a world that had long forgotten the ways of modern technology, and what does this boy do? Starts to science the shit out of it! With his dizzying intellect and drive to kickstart civilisation, Senku and his new worldly companions succeed in reintroducing various wonders of mankind, from cola all the way to medicine. Of course, nothing can compare to the sheer beauty that comes from when he kickstarts a new age for the residents of the Stone World with the power of the lightbulb.

#7: Winning at the MMO Called Life

“Recovery of an MMO Junkie” (2017) There are some people who just can’t handle the burdens of daily life, and Moriko is certainly one of them, so much so that she quit her job, shut herself away from the world and spent every hour playing an MMORPG. Who would have guessed that her dearest playing companion wouldn’t only turn out to be a guy…but that they would decide to try and make a real-life relationship work? They barely got further than holding hands, yet seeing Moriko and Sakurai head out on their first date is so wonderfully fulfilling it makes you believe there’s hope for all shut-ins!

#6: Off With His Head

“Vinland Saga” (2019) Because of course Askeladd would go as far as to behead the King of Denmark in front of his admirers, declare himself ruling monarch and turn of a day of celebration into a bloodbath, all with the dual purpose of giving Canute the perfect chance to step up as ruler while also protecting Wales from invasion. Throw in the fact that King Sweyn was a right bastard in his own right, and seeing Lucius Artorius Castus remove his with a single swipe turned out to be a rather transcendent experience all round. Nobody threatens the Welsh.

#5: The Great Escape

Top 10 Worst Scenes In Great Anime (Ft. Todd Haberkorn)

“The Promised Neverland” (2019-) Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Having their escape route cut off, all hope lost, and the traumatising sight of Emma getting her leg broken by the woman she had long thought as her mother, the orphans of Grace Field House appeared to be as good as dead. Cattle set to be slaughtered by their unseen, demonic overlords. Until it was revealed that Emma had never given up, and had been plotting with the other children to realise Norman’s plan. The only thing better than seeing them all zipline to freedom is that look Emma gives Isabella before heading off into the great unknown.

#4: The Triumph of the Shield Hero

Top 10 Anime Fights Where the Hero Takes ZERO Damage

“The Rising of the Shield Hero” (2019) Oooh, that’s some good revenge right there! After suffering all manner of indignation and nearly losing his life due to the lies and greed of the King and his heartless daughter Myne, Naofumi finally found himself redeemed in the eyes of the kingdom when the Queen laid bare her family’s corruption, even sentencing them to death. Now, while watching their heads roll would have been satisfying in its own way, having Naofumi spare their lives is just as rewarding, since it showed how far he has come from his days of disgrace and anger. That, and he got their names changed, which is bloody amazing.|

#3: It’s Getting Hot In Here

“Food Wars” (2015-) Only this show could take something as narratively empowering as having a child escape the control of their wicked parent, while combining it with all of the main characters losing their clothes in an insane display of pleasure caused by the force of delicious food. Having transcended her cooking in order to top Soma’s dish, Erina’s plate was apparently so mind-boggling that is caused Azami’s body to unleash the gift – leading to all the fanservice you could want in the most unexpected of ways.

#2: Jiren Defeated

“Dragon Ball Super” (2015-18) Now that’s how you conclude a tournament arc. With Universe 11’s home grown beast capable of even smashing apart Super Saiyan Gods, Jiren looked set to take the win in the tournament of power. At least until Goku and Frieza teamed up together for a last second upset, and in turn delivered one of the franchise’s greatest fights to date. This not only made Frieza’s resurrection so worth it, it’s also dazzling to see these most hated of foes work together against a far greater threat.

#1: Alphonse Finally Gets His Body Back

“Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (2009-10) It was a long time coming, but Ed and Al finally succeeded in pulling off the impossible and retrieving what they had lost beyond the Gate of Truth. Hot off the heels of defeating Father, Edward chose to make one last sacrifice for his brother – by undoing his ability to perform alchemy in exchange for getting Alphonse’s body back. They had fought so hard, faced death numerous times, and in the end they corrected their mistake, coming out the other end surrounded by their allies and loved ones. If you want to know the alchemic symbol for a perfect ending – it’s this.
