Top 10 Multiplayer Games with the Best Skins
We all want to be able to look our best. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 multiplayer games with the best skins.
For this list, we’re looking at games where the multiplayer is the core gameplay, meaning that skins and creating your own unique identity are much more important.
Since you’re going to be driving a car around for the entirety of this soccer-game-with-a-twist, it makes sense that developers would allow players to try and build the coolest cars possible. In “Rocket League”, you don’t only acquire awesome-looking cars, but also pop culture icons, including Switch exclusive Mario and Luigi vehicles as well as “Back to the Future’s” DeLorean various versions of the Batmobile. In addition to a variety of different car bodies, it’s also possible to buy or win custom wheels, decals, paints, antennas – you name it. If you can picture it on a car, you can get it in “Rocket League.”
To match up with its longevity and status as one of the most celebrated video games of all time, “Dota 2” has plenty of awesome hero skins to live up to its good name. It’s also one of the games where many of its skins are sold in online marketplaces for outlandish prices, as in, literally thousands of dollars. The crazy thing is, while some items feature special effects, others are purely cosmetic, meaning players can drop some serious cash for no real advantage. Dota 2 also features content like unique weather effects and loading screens, making it one of the most customizable games out there.
There’s something about Rockstar’s games that has always attracted the modder community in droves, arguably more than any other series. As Rockstar began putting more focus into “GTA Online,” the sold-separately multiplayer from “GTA V”, so did the modders, and since the game’s release they’ve created way better third-party skins than most mainstream developers could ever dream of. With seemingly endless time, motivation, and only the desire to make something even more fun, the modded skins available to download for free are pretty damn awesome.
In typical Blizzard style, they go out of their way to deliver a huge number of cosmetics for their characters, keeping players happy about the variety afforded to them. They may not actually alter the gameplay at all, but this doesn’t stop players from trying their hardest to unlock all those legendary skins. However, there’s slightly more customizability in “Heroes of the Storm” than in some other multiplayer games with skins, as every skin also gives players the ability to tint them with four different color variations. This also gives players a chance to see some of their favorite characters from other Blizzard franchises, like “StarCraft” or “Diablo”, decked out in some cool gear.
Like “GTA”, “Minecraft” is another game where users create a large amount of the game’s content. Notch may have provided the building blocks, as it were, but it’s the many members of the game’s vast community who create its wealth of additional, downloadable content. Including skins. Because of the huge player-base “Minecraft” has boasted for years, this means that there’s a skin available for everything under the sun. They even make skins in “Minecraft” to look like skins in other big games, for example, “Fortnite.” In keeping with “Minecraft’s” core philosophy, if you can dream it you can build it.
As if a game where you get to play as gods and goddesses from a myriad of different religions and mythologies didn’t already have you hooked, “Smite” has some pretty awesome cosmetic skins to go with its big-name character roster. The skins don’t just change the gods, either; they also change the appearances of characters’ various attacks and give them all-new, humorous voice packs. They’re certainly some of the zanier interpretations of the world’s deities. Whether you love the American patriot version of Egyptian sun god Ra, or summer-vacation themed ‘Poolseidon’, “Smite’s” skins are sure to you have you loving every minute.
The idea that lootboxes get kids hooked on gambling at an early age first came to the attention of the media through a series of major “Counter-Strike” scandals. There’s a whole host of websites where players are allowed to trade weapon skins for big money, with age restrictions sometimes as low as 13. Influential YouTubers have even got into heaps of trouble for promoting “CS:GO” skin-trading websites they actually own. However, it certainly says a lot about the quality of the skins if people are willing to go to such extreme lengths to make money out of them, especially since they’re entirely cosmetic and offer no gameplay advantage.
No one could have guessed that “Fortnite” would become the global sensation it undeniably is, but maybe its wide variety of exciting skins and unique dance moves have boosted its likability. Epic Games keeps adding content to “Fortnite” regularly, with each new season introducing new weapons, skins, and items. The cartoonish art-style really lends itself to the whacky skins; you can dress up as a panda, a superhero, an advanced soldier, or a basketball player. When it comes to “Fortnite” skins, the sky really is the limit. Looking at how cool a lot of them are, it’s really no wonder why people invest so much time and money into gaming’s biggest current trend.
Blizzard’s friendly first-person shooter became a hit when it first released in 2016, and it’s the constant updates and new content which keep it relevant. With tons of special and seasonal events, Blizzard wants any excuse to release more and more skins, game modes, and catchphrases for their roster of heroes. While some have faced backlash – like McCree’s canary-yellow Vigilante skin, or Tracer’s Lightning skin – others have garnered praise for their ingenuity – like Cultist Zenyatta or Shiver Reaper. Waiting for new event skins to drop is something many “Overwatch” players look forward to, and with good reason!
It’s the most popular MOBA in the world and it’s played at the biggest gaming tournaments in the world, so it stands to reason that “League of Legends” also has the absolute best skins of any multiplayer-centric title. There are over 800 skins available across all the different Champions, and seeing as “LOL” isn’t going to go away any time soon, hundreds more could potentially be added across its promising lifespan. If you’re a gamer who loves playing with awesome-looking characters and you still haven’t jumped into “League of Legends”, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
