#10: r/mildlyinteresting

The internet is full of amazing videos and feats. GoPro videos let us witness firsthand the incredible athleticism and bravery throughout the world, and there seems to be a new video every day of someone doing something amazing. But what about the mildly interesting things that are not quite awesome but still kinda cool? That’s where r/mildlyinteresting comes in. In this sub, people post pictures of kinda neat things, like a lens flare looking like Eric Cartman or a tree that looks like broccoli. They’re nothing to blow your mind. As the title suggests, they’re only mildly interesting, but they are damn entertaining.

#9: r/SubredditSimulator

Subreddit Simulator is a different kind of beast. Unlike most subreddits, this one is comprised entirely of bots. If a human posts a comment, it is immediately deleted by the auto-moderator. The general gist of the subreddit is that bots generate posts and comments using Markov chains, a technology similar to the text prediction function on your phone. Sometimes the bots create completely random and gut-bustingly stupid posts, but they also generate some weirdly accurate ones that can fool someone if they’re not aware of the subreddit’s mechanics. It’s both hilarious and amazing to see these bots at work.

#8: r/MemeEconomy

Do you love memes? Do you have a weird talent to predict which ones will become popular and which ones will fall by the wayside? Then r/MemeEconomy is your sub. r/MemeEconomy is a bit of an odd one, as users buy, sell, discuss, and invest in memes. It’s basically the stock market of memes, and it is glorious. It serves as a satirical look at meme culture by going full meta and showing the fickleness and unpredictable nature of memes. It’s kind of hard to explain, but if you’re one for memes, you should definitely check it out.

#7: r/nosleep

It seems as if Reddit is full of budding writers. r/writingprompts is all about users providing a story prompt and seeing what can be done with it, and r/nosleep provides some great scary stories. r/nosleep is all about users posting original horror stories and pretending that the story is real. According to the subreddit’s description “Suspension of disbelief is key here. Everything is true here, even if it's not.” That pretty much sums it up. Commenters will reply directly to the “protagonist,” who in turn must respond in character. The sub has spawned the popular NoSleep Podcast, which reads popular NoSleep posts in the form of an audiobook, and various stories have actually been published, including “Penpal” by Dathan Auerbach.

#6: r/OldPeopleFacebook

Hey, don’t laugh too hard. This will be you one day. Old people on the internet are usually good for a laugh, and that’s where r/oldpeoplefacebook comes in. This subreddit is all about laughing at the people (usually old) who can’t quite get a handle on social media. Some of the top posts include a grandmother asking Walmart if her grandson showed up for his job interview and asking the Google Search App if they are open today. Some entries even include grandparents being savage to their own grandchildren in ways that prove they just don’t give a shit. Old people are awesome, and r/oldpeoplefacebook proves it.

#5: r/NatureIsF***ingLit

Anyone who has ever seen “Planet Earth” knows that nature is indeed lit. This subreddit is all about the fascinating aspects of nature and its animals. Posts usually contain gifs, videos, and images of animals doing incredible things, gorgeous landscapes, and incredible natural phenomena. Each one is sure to make you gape and stare in amazement. Nature is amazing to witness, and this subreddit compiles all the best footage and images that capture just how amazing it really is.

#4: r/ThisBlewMyMind

Unlike r/mildlyinteresting, r/ThisBlewMyMind is the place to go when you feel like…well, having your mind blown. This subreddit contains pictures, videos, articles, and anything else that causes one particular user to have their mind blown. The great thing about this sub is that it isn’t limited to one medium, like pictures. If something is considered mind-blowing, it will be posted. The community is rather small, but it’s a great source for some unbelievably mind-blowing content.

#3: r/IAmA

r/IAmA is easily one of Reddit’s most popular subreddits. The concept of the sub is that people with strange jobs or who have had strange experiences allow users to ask them questions, and they in turn answer as many questions as possible. It’s a really fun method to learn about various institutions and people. But perhaps the sub’s biggest claim to fame are the celebrity AMAs. On various occasions, notable celebrities answer personal questions from the users. It’s a great form of interaction and one of Reddit’s biggest draws.

#2: r/RoastMe

r/RoastMe is certainly not for the faint of heart, but it provides hours of harmless fun. Well, actually, maybe not so harmless. The entire concept of the sub is that people post pictures of themselves and ask users to roast them. As you can imagine, the results are often a brilliant mix of funny and straight-up heartbreaking. And as much as we all hate to admit it, the harshest roasts are often the truest, and therefore, the funniest. While most posters are good sports about their roasts, some have been known to get offended and even delete their accounts. But that’s the risk you take when asking to be roasted.

Before we get to our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.

r/TalesFromRetail

r/MinionHate

#1: r/photoshopbattles

It may not be the best sub on Reddit, but it is definitely the most entertaining and time-consuming. Over at r/photoshopbattles, someone posts a picture of a given object (usually themselves), and the users of the sub photoshop it into hilarious and outlandish scenarios. The submissions are not only funny, but they present photoshop abilities at their absolute best; it’s simply amazing to see what these users can accomplish with a little time and effort. Once you visit r/photoshopbattles there’s no going back, as it could very well be the most entertaining subreddit of all time.
