Top 10 Times Chilli Was a Great Mom on Bluey

Top 10 Times Chilli Was a Great Mom on Bluey
VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Isabelle Brown
Chilli is the best mom on Bluey. For this list, we'll be looking at the best moments where Bluey and Bingo's mom nailed being a parent. Our countdown includes Bingo helps Chilli cook. Chilli brings the boring stuff, Bluey reunites with Chilli, and more!

#10: Chilli Helps Bluey Win the Claw Game
“The Claw”

It’s common knowledge that claw machines are difficult to beat. Bluey and Bingo learn this first hand and are pretty disappointed when they walk away without any prizes. Chilli has a great idea to cheer her daughters up, one Bandit only manages to add on to. He provides the challenge the girls need, meanwhile Mum is the encouragement and comfort they need to keep going until they win. And, at the end, when the Claw denies them the ultimate prize of bottomless ice cream, the girls attack with their mother cheering them on. We love that she’s on her kids’ side during Bandit’s rigged game, and that she allows them to redeem their prize.

#9: Chilli Encourages Bluey to Find Her Ears & Bingo to Find Her Voice
“Hairdressers”

Part of being a mom to more than one child means making sure they don’t get in each other's way. That’s what Chilli has to do when she notices Bluey’s tendency to cut Bingo off. The sisters are pretty different; while the older one has no problem speaking her mind, the younger one takes a while to vocalize her thoughts. Chilli addresses the issue by helping Bluey with her listening skills. This is a prime example of some stellar parenting. Learning to listen is just as important as speaking your mind and, though Bandit isn’t exactly thrilled to be involved in this lesson, the whole family celebrates the improved communication between sisters.

#8: Chilli Teaches Bingo How to Big Girl Bark
“Yoga Ball”

When Bandit continues to cross a line with Bingo while playing, Chilli helps her establish boundaries. The father Blue Heeler can often play a little rough with his two daughters. And, while six year old Bluey handles the treatment just fine, it can be a lot for Bingo, who’s only four. Chilli finds Bingo upset in the yard after a particularly arduous set of games. She offers her daughter reassurance and encourages her to practice her big girl bark. Then, they head off together to set things straight with Dad. Chilli’s solution allows for Bandit and Bingo to continue playing together, while also helping the little Red Heeler develop an important life skill.

#7: Chilli Encourages Missy to Join the Game
“Pirates”

In addition to being a good mom to Bluey and Bingo, Chilli is also a great friend and role model for their young peers. During a scary game of “Pirates” on the playground, she motivates her daughters’ schoolmate, Missy, to be brave while also allowing her the space that she needs. As narrator, Chilli gives Missy the chance to be a hero. She also spurs on Bandit to face his fears when he’s feeling self-conscious in front of another dad. Thanks to her direction, everyone involved in the game is empowered to do their best, which ultimately leads to a better pretend sea adventure.

#6: Chilli Brings the Boring Stuff
“The Pool”

Although the boring stuff isn’t glamorous, it is essential. That’s what Bluey, Bingo, and Bandit realize when they take a trip to the pool without Chilli. The mom Heeler is often left in charge of managing details like food, sun protection, and towels. Her family has come to take those things for granted, leading Bandit to forget them when he brings his daughters swimming. Luckily, after a little while, Chilli shows up to save the day. Her arrival extends what would have been a short and dull swim session. Finally, she gets some much deserved appreciation for what she does, and the whole family gets to enjoy a day at the pool.

#5: Bluey Reunites with Chilli
“The Beach”

Part of what makes Chilli a good parent is that she also knows how to put aside time for herself. She sets this example for her daughter, who learns to do the same thing. Bluey wonders why her mom likes to take walks alone, believing the activity to be lonely, but she eventually comes to find out for herself. For the first time, she decides to take an unaccompanied stroll down the beach. She encounters a few obstacles on her adventure, including crabs, a pelican, and a jellyfish. Although she is tempted at times to turn back, Bluey powers through and eventually reaches her mom. Independence and problem-solving are both valuable life skills that Chilli seems to be instilling in her daughter from an early age. Go Mum!

#4: Chilli Comforts Bluey About Jean-Luc
“Camping”

Parents can’t protect their children from ever feeling sadness or pain. Sometimes, the best they can do is comfort their child after they’ve already encountered something difficult. That’s what happens when Bluey’s camping buddy, Jean-Luc, leaves without being able to say goodbye. Bluey is reasonably upset, and turns to her mom for advice. Chilli’s words are wise: “Sometimes special people come into our lives, stay for a bit, and then they have to go.” There’s just not much that can be done about this, aside from focusing on the time when those people were here, rather than when they’re gone. Plus, the fact that Chilli is helping Bingo with a bush wee throughout this entire conversation further demonstrates her commitment to motherhood. Let’s go, multitasking queen!

#3: Bingo Helps Chilli Cook
“Omelette”

Being a great mom doesn’t mean being perfect. After all, everybody makes mistakes, even parents. When Bingo asks to help Chilli make breakfast in bed for Bandit’s birthday, things go off the rails quickly. Chilli entertains the Heeler pup for a while, but eventually feels compelled to take over completely. Although she’s able to execute an omelet in a quicker time frame on her own, Chilli realizes that excluding Bingo is negatively affecting her self-esteem. Much to Bandit’s disappointment, she lets Bingo help her make a new dish from scratch. Multiple tries and many eggs later, Bingo and Chilli proudly deliver an omelet that they made together.

#2: Chilli Helps Bluey Practice Being a Mom
“Mum School”

Chilli keeps score when Bluey tries her hand at mothering a group of balloons. Along the way, she offers some useful parenting tips, and even gets Bluey to take her evening bath. According to the Red Heeler, good parents show their children what to do, keep things fun, and make an effort to understand their kids’ behaviors. One of Bluey’s inflatable children named Greeny tends to float, unlike his siblings. Unfortunately, this causes him to fly away at the end of the episode. Bluey is understandably upset by this, but Chilli reassures her that she is a great mom. Additionally, she explains that failing is perfectly normal, and the important thing is to keep trying.

#1: Chilli Does a Great Job as a New Mother
“Baby Race”

One of the show’s most touching episodes flashes back to Chilli as a new mother. When Bluey rolls over earlier than expected as an infant, her mom becomes a little too proud. Chilli’s excitement turns into determination to get Bluey walking as quickly as possible. She lets the pressure get to her, and starts feeling down on herself when Bluey takes her time with this feat. Luckily, Mum’s spirits are lifted after a meaningful pep talk from long-time parent, Bella. Armed with a new attitude, Chilli supports the other kids in her mom group and appreciates Bluey for where she is. When the puppy finally does take her first steps, it's incredibly heart-warming, and Chilli is a better mother for it.
