Top 20 Awkward Randy Marsh Moments on South Park
Welcome to WatchMojo, and for this list, we’ll be looking at Randy Marsh’s most cringeworthy and embarrassing moments on “South Park”!
#20: Being Confronted About Stan’s Future Self
To ensure that his son doesn’t go down a dark path, Randy and his wife Sharon hire an actor to play a future version of Stan. It doesn’t take Stan too long to become aware of the ruse, and so he confronts his parents about it. Randy panics, and when Stan decides to “test out” if the man really is his future self, Randy does the unthinkable. Turns out, this was a trick on Stan’s part, and Randy is left trying to “reverse” the damage. Not the most reliable client…
#19: “Dying” in World of Warcraft
When playing World of Warcraft becomes the latest fad for the boys, Randy of course wants in. He soon becomes a little too invested in the game and his character, Falcorn. It gets to a point where, when Randy’s character passes away after delivering the Sword of a Thousand Truths to the boys online, he quite literally makes what can only be described as moaning noises to insinuate his passing. The Blizzard executives can only awkwardly look on as Falcorn “dies”. We would probably feel awkward if we were in the room with them, but as viewers, it’s pure comedy gold.
#18: Spewing Crap
A new but rather unhygienic phenomenon has taken over the town. Of course, it can’t really be a phenomenon unless Randy takes part. Randy, alongside several other citizens of South Park, can at several points be seen literally spewing crap out of their mouths. And when the crap does fall, no one really knows what to say or how to react. We’re just surprised at how long it took for Randy and the other townsfolk to realize how ridiculous this practice was, and that they even decided to get into it in the first place.
#17: Failing at Guitar Hero
Seeing the boys’ interest in Guitar Hero, Randy is excited to show them his skills when it comes to playing a real guitar. When the boys aggressively shrug him off, he can only walk away with his head down in dismay. But the real awkward moment comes when no one’s around. Dressed in nothing but his underwear, he decides to try his hand at the video game in the middle of the night. Because it’s his first time, it goes just about as bad as one would expect. As the boos from the virtual crowd grow and Randy is unable to hit any of the keys at the right time, it’s all encapsulated by a final message from the game. Poor Randy.
#16: Informing Stan About True Crime Shows
Randy and Sharon are just one of many couples across the town of South Park who’ve become enamored with watching true crime shows, most notably due to how explicit they are in nature. When the children fear for their parents' lives after one particular incident, they decide to lock their parents’ access to these shows. Randy immediately confronts Stan about this, but it is the nature by which he does this that has us either laughing or completely speechless. Being unclothed, crouched down to not reveal anything below and whispering aggressively at Stan all makes for a rather bizarre situation.
#15: Trying to Enter the Marijuana Dispensary
In season 14’s “Medicinal Fried Chicken,” Randy goes to great lengths in order to get a doctor referral to purchase medicinal marijuana. Although he’s eventually able to get his hands on some after contracting cancer, his testicles soon grow exponentially…to the point where he can’t even enter the marijuana dispensary. While we can’t actually show the incident, what ensues during a visit to the store is an awkward situation where Randy literally attempts to push his testicles through the entrance in order to enter the store. As it all happens, the store clerk is left watching incredulously. And if that wasn’t cringe worthy enough, Randy begs him to come outside so that he can buy the marijuana, but due to store policy, he does not comply.
#14: Starting COVID-19
Leave it to the South Park creators to come up with the scenario for how COVID-19 started. Upon hearing a news report, Randy puts two and two together, realizing that because of one, how shall we put it…indecent act, he brought upon the coronavirus. He naturally finds himself in quite the predicament. And if things couldn’t get more awkward, it turns out it was another indecent act that truly caused the pandemic, which was carried out by none other than Randy himself. Bat or Pangolin, Randy is overcome with guilt as a result of the damage which he’s caused.
#13: His Appearance in Stan's Class
As we’ll discuss in further detail later in this video, Randy likes to imbibe. This has gotten him into trouble on several occasions, and this instance was no exception. After killing time at the local bar ($2 margaritas!) during the boys’ karate class, he gets stopped by the police while driving the boys home. He fails to comply with any of the officer’s instructions and gets booked. And if it couldn’t get more embarrassing for Randy and Stan, the former is asked to make an appearance at South Park Elementary to speak about the dangers of drunk driving. It goes terribly, and Garrison only makes matters worse.
#12: Crashing a Broadway Musical Dressed as Spider-Man
In Season 15’s “Broadway Bro Down”, Randy’s latest obsession is with Broadway musicals. Witnessing the psychological effects these shows have on women, Randy decides to produce a show of his own. It all comes to a halt when he finds out that his daughter Shelley is going on a date and seeing “Wicked.” Knowing the implications, Randy decides to put a halt to the show. How might you ask? By dressing up as Spider-Man and wrecking absolute chaos, of course. In the end, Randy is just left hanging on a rope while everyone leaves the theater.
#11: Live Concert Gone Wrong
Although we’re unclear as to why other characters on the show are unable to recognize him, Randy Marsh is Lorde. And with some autotune and clever sound editing, he’s able to create music that has garnered him a ton of adoring fans. However, when asked to perform live at a benefit concert, he’s naturally hesitant. When he does eventually comply and performs live, the concert goes awry. In response, he pays heed to some rather inappropriate advice given to him before heading on stage, and this only further angers the crowd. It’s an uncomfortable moment for everyone, and Randy is ultimately left to pick up the pieces.
#10: The Hot Tub Incident at the Meteor Shower Party
When Randy and Gerald attend a meteor shower party, they decide to celebrate by trying something crazy they’ve never done before. So they take turns gratifying themselves in a hot tub while the others watch. For the rest of the night, the incident weighs heavily on Randy, who is now afraid of what would happen if people found out what he and Gerald were doing. Complicating the situation, Gerald becomes clingy to Randy, and he tells guests at the party about their experimenting, even though it was obviously supposed to be private. Not cool, Gerald.
#9: The Time He Celebrated Obama’s Victory Too Hard
Like many Americans on election night 2008, Randy was thrilled when Barack Obama was elected president. However, he was completely irrational with his celebration, having one too many drinks, flipping over a cop car, and telling off his boss. But perhaps most insufferable of all Randy’s acts was taking popular songs like “Mandy” and “Mickey” and replacing the names in those songs with Obama. With Obama’s victory, Randy mistakenly assumed that things were going to be perfect in the future because of the change Obama promised. Instead, Randy is fired the next morning due to this behavior, which completely shattered this faith in Barack Obama.
#8: The Time He Got Served
Stan engages in a dance off against a dance crew, which plays out like how neighborhood kids fight. Concerned that Stan could get hurt trying to serve the other side, Randy tells the coach of the dance crew that Stan won’t be dancing anymore, like how a parent might intervene when neighborhood kids get into a fight. The coach, however, responds by challenging Randy to a dance off and serving Randy so hard he winds up in the hospital. This is probably the only example on this list where Randy acted reasonably.
#7: His Run-in with a Mormon Family
After talking to a Mormon kid from school, Stan has questions for Randy about religion. Uncomfortable with the subject matter, Randy heads over to the Mormon’s kids house to berate his father. However, when Randy discovers how wonderfully pleasant this Mormon family is, he decides to convert his whole family to the Mormon faith, so they can be just as happy. But the Marshes don’t automatically turn into delightful people just because they’re changed religions, as evidenced by their ill-fated game night which sees Randy forcing family time down their throats while everyone else looks miserable.
#6: Any Time Randy Imbibes Too Much
Alcohol use disorder is no joke, and it can seriously affect other aspects of one’s life. This is the case for Randy Marsh, who we’ve already seen have a run-in with the law. And in fact, his actions have led to him being arrested several times. Sadly, this also affects his son Stan, who is frequently embarrassed by his father’s behavior. All in all, Randy’s actions are great from an audience perspective but disappointing in a parent.
#5: The Time a Native American Man Fell in Love with Him
Before the zeitgeist shifted towards vilifying Christopher Columbus, Randy used to be a big fan, even dressing up like the explorer on many occasions. When the town is about to discover his obsession with the polarizing figure, Randy decides the best way to inoculate the discovery is to rig a DNA test to show that he has Native American DNA. To do so, he collects saliva from a Native American man... by kissing him shortly before the test is administered. However, the Native American mistakenly believes that Randy is in love with him and thus tries to foster a relationship.
#4: The Time He Was in a Boy Band
When Stan co-forms a boy band, Randy becomes completely hostile to the idea. It's not just because it's the year 2000 and people are sick of boy bands, either. It's because his life was ruined by being a member of such a band, and he doesn’t want Stan to go down the dark path. Randy tells Stan how he was recruited for a boy band called The Ghetto Avenue Boys, and how he left his family and high school to seek fame and fortune. But when the good times ended, he had to go back to the same people he had blown off. The saddest part is, the only reason he was even recruited was for his mustache.
#3: Computer Time
Because of a massive internet outage, Randy’s family is forced to migrate to California, much like a modern day version of the Joads, or maybe the Clampetts. At a camp where the Marshes settle, people are given only a short amount of time to use what little internet is available. But at night when the computer is left unguarded, Randy uses the computer to satisfy his built-up urges. This results in a ... release ... that covers both Randy and the computer. When people come in to see what’s going on, Randy’s excuse is that he was covered in “ectoplasm” that came from a “spooky ghost.” Unsurprisingly, no one buys this.
#2: Randy’s Special Magic
In his younger days, it seems Randy performed an unusual brand of magic, which involved elaborate tricks with that special area below the belt. Through a misunderstanding, he thinks this kind of magic is becoming popular again, and he decides to get back in the game. Somehow, Randy manages to get booked at a child’s birthday party, and he traumatizes the guests with his profane act. Later, Randy works his magic at an underground cock fight where chickens face off against each other in “Magic: The Gathering” matches, which seems like a more appropriate venue for this kind of magic act. It’s just another example of Randy getting obsessed with something weird, and throwing himself into it completely.
#1: Wheel of Fortune Puzzle
Game show fails are embarrassing enough for contestants, but it’s even worse when racial slurs are involved. When Randy is participating in the bonus round of “Wheel of Fortune,” all he has to do to win is fill in the “a” for the word “naggers.” But because this is “South Park,” Randy picks the worst possible wrong vowel, making him not only look like an idiot, but also a giant racist. Had Randy spent just a couple of seconds longer, he might have relaxed and solved the puzzle, but because of the pressure, all he was left with was a quiet ride home with his family where he tried to explain himself.
