Top 20 Most Brutal Over-the-Top Deaths in South Park

Welcome to WatchMojo, today we’re counting down our picks for the most hilariously extra deaths in “South Park” history.

#20: Kenny Gets Osborned

Way back in the show’s second season, Chef was almost sent to prison by Alanis Morissette’s label for harassment. If he can raise enough money in a day, he’ll manage to keep his freedom. So, the boys set up a monumental concert called “Chef Aid”, inviting a bunch of huge names like Ozzy Osbourne and Elton John. It makes for a classic old-school “South Park” episode, also featuring a hilarious Kenny death, as is traditional. This is referencing the time Ozzy Osbourne bit off the head of a bat live on stage. That happened because he mistook it for a toy, but when he did it to Kenny, he was probably just feeling feral.

#19: Kenny & Mr. Jefferson

Moving forward to Season 8, “The Jeffersons” was an episode about a world-famous pop star moving into “South Park.” The boys quickly become friends with him, going over to play in his garden funfair. Things go south when they attempt to break out Mr. Jefferson’s son Blanket, with a masterful plan that ends up killing Kenny, as usual. It doesn’t take long for Mr. Jefferson to slam a disguised Kenny into the ceiling. It’s also a rare instance we see Kenny unhooded, but not for long before he becomes a fairly useless ceiling fan.

#18: Medical Malpractice

In 1999, the “South Park” movie came to cinemas. It was a huge success, getting an Oscar nomination for the song “Blame Canada.” Unfortunately for Kenny, being in a movie justifies getting killed in the most absurdly horrific way. Not only is he set on fire and then covered in salt. The doctors put his heart in the microwave and accidentally replaced it with a baked potato. They killed Kenny, and by they, we mean George Clooney, who voices the head doctor. Fitting not just due to his “ER” role, but because Clooney was a “South Park” fan from the beginning. You’d think it couldn’t get worse for Kenny, but he ends up in Hell right after.

#17: Easter Massacre

The “Fantastic Easter Special” featured Randy teaching Stan about a secret society that protects the mysteries of Easter from ninjas. It’s an iconic Randy episode, which also has some iconic Jesus action. It’s got more than one brutal death like Jesus using a ninja star to rip Bill Donohue in half. To get him there, Kyle has to slit the prophet’s throat, since he can only use his powers after dying. Fighting between the ninjas and the hare club is pretty rough. So is Donohue’s mistreatment of them in jail. In the end, it was all because Saint Peter was secretly a rabbit.

#16: Butters Indirectly Murders the Kardashians

Mark David Chapman became inspired to murder John Lennon. “The Catcher in the Rye” convincing him Lennon was a “phony.” This tragedy was parodied by “South Park” in the episode where Butters wrote his own controversial book. Well, it was actually written by the main gang, but they didn’t want their parents to be upset. Most of the episode revolves around them getting jealous of Butters, but as always, Butters ends up getting the worst end of the deal. His novel’s sequel ends up convincing a random person to go on a Kardashian killing spree, devastating Butters.

#15: The Death of Clyde’s Mom

Now and again, “South Park” musters the courage to kill off one of its side characters, like Clyde’s mom. Men forgetting to put the toilet seat down can be known to irritate women, since they may accidentally fall in. Usually, this causes a bit of grossness, and not much else. In “South Park,” it ends Clyde’s mom’s life. Unfortunately, she flushes after falling in, and somehow the toilet is powerful enough to disembowel her. She’s beyond saving, so the firemen resort to putting her out of her misery. It serves as a brutal reminder of what doesn’t happen when you leave the toilet seat up.

#14: Pip Gets Crushed

In Season 14, “South Park” managed to reach 200 episodes, celebrating with a two-part special. It’s since been banned for its portrayal of the Muslim prophet Muhammad. Comedy Central initially censored Muhammad, fearing for their safety. Since the episode was criticizing censorship, this was a controversial, yet understandable, decision. It brought back tons of classic characters, like both Pip and Mecha-Streisand. Pip tries to end her reign of terror with a heroic speech, but the kaiju Streisand isn’t having any of it. It marked a hilarious end to one of “South Park’s” most hated characters.

#13: Serial Killers Unleashed

The show’s 150th episode had a plethora of iconic moments like Butters repeatedly summoning Biggie Smalls. It also includes a side-splitting parody of “The Three Stooges.” Except here, they’re Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Wayne Gacy, three of America’s most infamous serial killers. Satan sends them to pick up his Ferrari cake, which makes for some bloody but wacky antics. They horrifically murder the cake chefs, alongside pretty much every bystander. As you might expect, they eventually turn on one another, causing all three to kick the bucket once again, resulting in some of the most gorey “South Park” deaths.

#12: Cartman Uses Cthulhu

Who remembers the days of “Bieber Fever?” Back when “Baby” was released in 2010, he was all the rage. You couldn’t get away from him, which annoyed millions of people who weren’t into “Baby.” When Cartman gets to send Cthulu to do his bidding, he chooses to eliminate Bieber. It’s not the only time he got an over-the-top TV death. In 2011, he played a role on “CSI.” He played the character Jason, who ends up getting shot to death by police. While Bieber got a lot of hate, it’s hard not to feel nostalgic for when he was big.

#11: Woodland Critters

Initially introduced in 2004, the Woodland Critters instantly became fan favorites. Originally, they were just part of a Christmas tale written by Cartman. Throughout the episode, Stan helps the critters, until the twist reveals they’re satanic monsters. Thankfully, Santa is here to save the day, but not until after they disembowel Rabbity the Rabbit, getting a bit too excited about his blood. They then become recurring characters, returning to terrorize both Imaginationland and Kurt Russell. Even the other villains find them too evil when they torture Strawberry Shortcake.

#10: Tap Dance Tragedy

After Stan gets into a dance-off with a rival dance crew, he turns to Butters for help. As a former tap dancing prodigy, Butters easily has the most talent of anyone in Stan’s troupe. However, Butters refuses to join due to a traumatic experience in which he accidentally took the lives of nearly a dozen people during a dance competition. Eventually, Butters chooses to overcome his trauma and arrives just in time to help the South Park Diggities. Unfortunately, history repeats itself when Butters accidentally eliminates the opposing team in brutal fashion. While the town of South Park revels in their victory, Butters is left more traumatized than ever before.

#9: China Is No Place for a Bear

For a guy who claims to value “tegrity,” Randy Marsh is willing to do some pretty despicable things. After getting arrested in China, Randy is sent to prison where he meets and befriends fellow prisoner, Winnie the Pooh. When Randy defends himself and Pooh at a tribunal, he attempts to make a deal with the Chinese. This allows him to meet with Mickey Mouse and the two work together to bring some “tegrity” to China. Unfortunately, things don’t go quite as planned. To secure favor with the Chinese, Randy takes drastic measures by luring Pooh into a trap and assassinates him in front of a horrified Piglet. For people who grew up watching Winnie the Pooh, this scene is all kinds of disturbing.

#8: Satan’s Ultimate Sacrifice

When the evil ManBearPig comes to unleash hell onto the people of South Park, the boys desperately look for a way to save the town from its wrath. After discovering ManBearPig's demonic origins, the boys and Al Gore help summon Satan and eventually convince him to fight on behalf of humanity… or at least everyone in the South Park area. However, it turns out that even the ruler of Hell is no match for ManBearPig. In a completely one-sided fight, ManBearPig brutally dominates Satan and leaves him drowning in agony. On the upside, Satan’s sacrifice did score him a trip to heaven.

#7: Mysterion Proves His Superpower

While Kenny’s constant ends and rebirths have become an iconic running gag in the “South Park'' franchise, the events of the superhero saga reveal just how huge a burden Kenny’s immortality can be. After discovering his parents' connection to the dark god Cthulhu and getting himself taken out by a cultist, Kenny reveals his secret to his friends. Naturally, they don’t believe him. When Kyle tries to make Kenny feel better about his immortality, he instead causes him to lash out. Desperate to prove that he is telling the truth, Kenny takes his own life. While the boys have witnessed Kenny lose his life numerous times, most of which they’ve either ignored or even laughed at, this particular moment leaves them shocked and horrified.

#6: Jeff Bezos Has Josh Carter Executed

They say business can be ruthless, but “South Park” takes this to the extreme. After Amazon employee Josh Carter gets literally packed into a box following a workplace incident, Josh’s fellow employees decide to go on strike and elect him as their leader. Inspired by Marxist beliefs, Josh and his followers stir up so much trouble that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos decides to take lethal measures. Eager to put an end to the strike, Bezos kidnaps Josh with the intent of finishing him off. Rather than terminate Josh himself, Bezos uses children to do the unspeakable act instead. We don’t know what’s more messed up: Josh’s final moments, or the fact that Bezos willingly and literally put Josh’s blood on the hands of innocents.

#5: Turns Out There Really Is a Giant Bird

Never has one of Kenny’s deaths been so cleverly foreshadowed. After Kenny’s parents get arrested in “The Poor Kid,” he and his siblings are sent to live with a way too agnostic foster family. Considering Kenny’s track record of meeting his end in unexpected ways, it’s surprising that he handled himself so well throughout the episode. Not only does he keep his sister safe, but he also orchestrates the arrest of his foster parents. In the end, Kenny returns to South Park and everything seems to work out well for everyone. Unfortunately for Kenny, fate can be a very cruel mistress. In an unexpected twist, Kenny is attacked by a giant bird and spends his final moments full of fear and agony. Even if it did make Cartman miserable, Kenny’s demise was pretty messed up.

#4: Halloween Massacre

“Pinkeye” may have been “South Park’s” first Halloween episode, but it certainly did not hold back in terms of brutality. After Kenny meets his end early in the episode, an unfortunate embalming accident turns him into a flesh-eating zombie. Within hours, most of the townspeople are turned into the living dead, including Chef and Wendy, forcing the boys to chainsaw their way through a zombie horde. It isn’t until Kyle stops the undead madness by taking out Kenny in a very violent manner. The ways in which Kenny loses his life multiple times throughout the episode is brutal enough, but considering that the zombies taken out by the boys could have been returned to normal, makes the situation all the more horrific.

#3: Kenny Actually Dies

While most of Kenny’s final moments can be considered hilarious, his passing in “Kenny Dies” is not one of them. After learning that Kenny has a terminal illness, his friends react to the news with genuine sadness. It’s a stark contrast to their normal behavior whenever Kenny passes away. This heartbreaking situation is especially hard on Stan, who is unable to cope with Kenny’s imminent demise. Stan does eventually get the courage to go see Kenny, but by the time he finally arrives, he is too late. This moment is sad enough, but it gets even worse after Kyle reveals that in his final moments, Kenny spent his last breath asking for Stan.

#2: The Death of Mr. & Mrs. Tenorman

A list like this wouldn’t be complete without one of the most infamous moments in “South Park” history. After being tricked and mocked one too many times by Scott Tenorman, Cartman vows to get back at him no matter the cost. When the day arrives for Cartman to put his plan into action at his Chili Con Carnival, Scott initially believes that he has the advantage. Oh, how wrong he was. In a shocking twist, Cartman reveals how he not only orchestrated the end of Scott’s parents, but also added further insult to injury by desecrating their bodies and turning them into chili. Chili which he then fed to Scott. Even by Cartman’s standards, this act of revenge takes things way too far.

#1: The Death of Chef

When Chef was written out of “South Park” following the departure of Isaac Hayes, you would think he’d get a decent send-off. Instead, he suffers a demise so brutal that even Kenny’s final moments pale in comparison. After discovering that Chef is being brainwashed by the evil Super Adventure Club, the boys desperately try to save him. Just as they are about to escape, the leader of the club manipulates Chef into coming back - a decision that seals his fate. In his final moments, Chef gets burned alive, falls into a ravine, gets impaled, gets shot at, and then finally gets mauled and torn apart by wild predators. It’s a truly horrific end to one of “South Park’s” greatest characters.
