Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About the Cast of Riverdale

Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About the Cast of Riverdale
VOICE OVER: Lisa Yang
Script written by Spencer Sher

There are a few facts about Riverdale that might surprise you! Did you know that K.J. Apa and Camila Mendes Have Different Plans for Archie? When asked who he thinks is the right choice, K.J. Apa said Betty, mainly because he thinks it's what the fans want. However, his co-star Camila Mendes thinks Veronica is the frontrunner, because her real world experience and no-nonsense attitude is better suited for the dark and twisted world of “Riverdale”. Did you know that Cole Sprouse Originally Auditioned for Archie? It's hard to imagine anyone other than Sprouse playing Jughead Jones. However, when he auditioned for the show it was for the lead role of Archie, not his dark, beanie-wearing former best friend.

#5: Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch Are Roommates

Betty and Cheryl Blossom might not get along on screen, but in real life they couldn’t be closer…literally. After filming the “Riverdale” pilot Reinhart and Petsch quickly became friends, so when it came time to shoot the remainder of the show in Vancouver they decided that the best thing would be for them to get an apartment together! They say you shouldn’t bring your work home with you, but for the cast of “Riverdale” that doesn’t seem to be a problem. In fact, after completing the press tour for season one Reinhart, Apa, Mendes, Cott and Sprouse hit up Coachella together. Now that’s a cool crew!

#4: Cole Sprouse Is Full of Helpful Advice

Seeing as how he’s been acting for literally his entire life – he received his first acting credit when he was less than a year old – Sprouse doesn’t mind dishing out advice to his less seasoned co-stars. According to Camila Mendes – aka Veronica – Sprouse is always there whenever a cast member needs a helping hand or has a question about the perils of show business. Sprouse’s veteran presence must be quite calming for the other actors, and Mendes in particular, as she had never acted professionally before in her entire life!

#3: Lili Reinhart Has Dealt with Mental Health Issues

Today, the world has started to inch closer to a place where mental health issues can be discussed openly, without fear of condemnation. It is this newfound openness in our society that has allowed for people like Lili Reinhart to speak up about their own struggles with mental health. In an example of art imitating life, Reinhart, like her on-screen character Betty, has suffered from anxiety and depression. In fact, the Cleveland native's early Hollywood struggles caused her to temporarily move back home as a way of overcoming her depressed state. Suffice it to say it appears to have worked, as Reinhart is doing a fantastic job on the show so far.

#2: Cole Sprouse Originally Auditioned for Archie

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Sprouse playing Jughead Jones. However, when he auditioned for the show it was for the lead role of Archie, not his dark, beanie-wearing former best friend. While he may have tried out for the part, his heart was always set on playing Jughead. In fact, during his Archie audition Sprouse found himself reciting Jughead’s lines as well, and made a decision right then and there that Jughead was the character for him. The nail in the coffin was when Sprouse discovered that Jughead was set to narrate the entire series, essentially confirming that he wouldn’t be killed off at some point. Smart move!

#1: K.J. Apa and Camila Mendes Have Different Plans for Archie

When people think about Archie Comics they usually picture the love triangle between the titular character and his two female companions Betty and Veronica; and “Riverdale” hasn’t shied away from the iconic storyline. However, when it comes down to whom the cast thinks Archie should end up with, the jury is still out. In fact, when asked who he thinks is the right choice, K.J. Apa said Betty, mainly because he thinks it’s what the fans want. However, his co-star Camila Mendes thinks Veronica is the frontrunner, because her real world experience and no-nonsense attitude is better suited for the dark and twisted world of “Riverdale”. Either way, we can’t wait to see what happens down the line!
