One of the biggest cities in the American Midwest, this Ohio capital city was named after Christopher Columbus. A city typified by flat land with many rivers and creeks running through it, Columbus is home to a beautiful landscape and skyline. Within the last few years, the city has made an effort at revitalizing its downtown core, and the bustling Arena District is one great example of the lively spirit that now pervades the city. Capital of the Buckeye State


Named after Christopher Columbus, the state capital of Ohio is also the largest city in the state. Also one of the largest cities in the American Midwest, Columbus’ population is over 750 thousand.

Geography and Climate


The geography of the city is relatively flat, and many rivers and creeks flow near and through Columbus. The city’s weather is typified by hot and humid summers contrasted by chilly and dry winter months.

Downtown


In recent years, the city has made an effort to revitalize its downtown core. While a number of historically significant buildings were razed in this process, many were kept, including the Great Southern Hotel.

Arena and Short North Districts


In fact, it is only within the last decade that the city’s north-western side has been rebuilt into an exciting entertainment quarter. Home to Columbus’ National Hockey League team, the Blue Jackets, the city’s Nationwide Arena is at the center of the Arena District. This area is popular for its bustling nightlife, and is filled with restaurants, bars and pubs. A quick walk to the city’s Short North district, and you’ll find a more bohemian arts neighborhood full of shops, cafes and galleries.

Columbus is also home to a number of cultural attractions, museums and theaters. World-class stage performances as well as fun outdoor festivals make for great visits, as well. Try spending time outdoors, whether you choose to enter a marathon or a bicycle race, or even if you just feel like relaxing near the water.
