Apa said Betty, mainly because he thinks it's what the fans want. However, his co-star Camila Mendes thinks Veronica is the frontrunner, because her real world experience and no-nonsense attitude is better suited for the dark and twisted world of “Riverdale”. Did you know that Cole Sprouse Originally Auditioned for Archie? It's hard to imagine anyone other than Sprouse playing Jughead Jones. However, when he auditioned for the show it was for the lead role of Archie, not his dark, beanie-wearing former best friend.
