Part of the West Indies, the island of Aruba lies roughly 12 degrees above the equator, and is located just north of Venezuela. Its capital and largest city is Oranjestad. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which means the country's citizens hold Dutch passports. It is also one of three countries that make up what are called the ABC Islands, along with Bonaire and Curacao. The country's culture is diverse, meshing elements from multiple countries. Originally discovered by Spain, and now part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, both these influences continue to pervade the landscape.
