VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Holiday meals are all about the side dishes: Cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato pie, and – of course – stuffing. You can wow your family at your next holiday meal with a sweet and savory stuffing that will definitely compliment everything on the table. While some people prefer their stuffing directly in the bird (hence the name “stuffing”), others like the fluffy texture you can achieve by baking it separately in the oven. This recipe is not stuffed in the bird, but can be modified to do by removing some of the liquids. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com shows you how to make Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing.

Ingredients:

- 1 ¼ cup whole wheat bread (cubed) - 3 cups crusty Italian bread (cubed) - 1 cup rosemary focaccia bread, or another herb bread (cubed) - 1 pound ground sausage - 1 cup onion (chopped) - ¾ cup celery (chopped) - 5 teaspoons fresh sage (chopped) - 1 ½ tbsp fresh rosemary (chopped) - A few sprigs fresh thyme - 1 Fuji apple (cored and chopped) - ¾ cup dried cranberries - 1/3 cup minced fresh parsley - 1 ¾ cup chicken stock - 1 egg - 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

Directions:

1. After preheating your oven to 350°, spray your 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray. 2. Spread the cubes of bread in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake that in our preheated oven for 5 to 7 minutes, or until they’re evenly toasted. When that’s done, transfer the bread to a large bowl. 3. In a large frying pan, cook the sausage and onions over medium heat until it’s evenly browned. Make sure to break up the lumps. 4. Then add the celery, sage, rosemary and thyme and cook it for 2 minutes to make sure the flavors blend. 5. Now, pour the sausage mixture over the bread. 6. Next mix in the apples, dried cranberries and parsley. 7. In a small bowl, whisk your egg with a fork. 8. Now, drizzle the egg, chicken stock and melted butter over your bread mixture, and toss it all together. 9. Pour that into your prepared pan, cover it with tin foil and bake it for 40 minutes. Then remove the foil, and bake your stuffing uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
Along with mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce, this stuffing goes great with a holiday turkey meal.
