Top 10 Anime Fights of 2019
Let’s get ready to rumble! Welcome to WatchMojo and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anime Fights of 2019!
For this list, we’ll be looking at the best and most bombastic battles to come out of the anime scene over the course of the year! Keep in mind we’ll be including clashes from new titles as well as ongoing series that just happened to bring their “a” game! Place your bets!
“Sword Art Online: Alicization” (2018-19)
She’s no Alice, but this Integrity Knight proved to be more than a match for the recently demoted OP lord as he tried to slice his way through the corrupted members of the Axiom Church. One of the deadliest warriors in service to the Administrator; Fanacio’s skills with the blade and RPG-spells seriously put Kirito through his paces, getting ridden with cuts and holes in the process. Luckily, it takes a little more than severe bleeding to put him down, using his armament to cut through the knight captain’s last attack and relieve her of her position.
“Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia” (2019)
It just wouldn’t be an end of year list if we didn’t have an entry from the Fate-verse, and this one definitely lives up to the hype! Faced with the monstrous terror that is the giant, tentacled waifu Tiamat, it falls to these two servants to fend her off before she renders the kingdom to stone. Seeing Leonidas do Sparta proud by landing a heck of a blow with one mighty swing of his spear was definitely a sight to see. But we’ve really got to give it up for Ushiwakamaru, as seeing her slice up Tiamat was all kinds of awesome.
“Vinland Saga” (2019)
The fact that this knife-wielding ball of vengeance managed to survive this fight is a miracle, considering his opponent was none other than the Danish giant who loves nothing more than revelling in the thrill of battle. In order to protect Askeladd (so he can kill him himself) Thorfinn challenges Thorkell to a duel to the death, the results of which turned the snow-ridden battlefield into a death trap; his nimble body barely able to escape seemingly endless onslaught of Thorkell’s axes. Thankfully, with his do or die determination and Askeladd’s interference, the son of Thors pulled off the impossible by bringing his foe down by targeting that glass jaw of his!
“Kengan Ashura” (2019)
Fair warning, it’s about to get brutal. In a series focusing on the bloody bouts of the world’s strongest fighters and killers, we were kind of spoiled for choice on who to give this slot to. And then comes along Fang to shake the whole thing up. In one of the more down to earth yet equally captivating brawls this insane machismo series has given us this year, Okubo’s MMA mastery appeared to give him the edge against a monster like Agito…only for the undefeated beast to take him out in an instant when he finally decided to get serious – There’s a reason this guy is the most feared fighter in the tournament.
“Mob Psycho 100 II” (2019)
If you thought you had seen this adorable esper unleash the full force of his psychic prowess, you ain’t seen nothing yet. After dispatching the Ultimate Five, it falls to Mob to finally put an end to the boss of CLAW, one who just happens to have accumulated a great deal of esper energy the years, turning him into something of a telekinetic devil in the process. Of course, even being able to transform himself into a flaming skeleton isn’t enough to slow to the shy boy who just wants to make some friends…who can also throw an entire city at with his mind alone. The only thing more astounding is his capacity to forgive.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019)
It’s the showdown that broke the internet, infiltrated the mainstream, and once again demonstrated that UFOtable are nothing short of animation gods. With his blade shattered and body broken, it looks like Tanjiro is about to be cut to bloody ribbons by the strings of the Lower Five of the Twelve Demon Moons, until a last second recollection involving his father’s parting words fuel the young demon slayer into action, wherein he trades his Water Breathing style for something a little…fiery. Throw in Nezuko unleashing her own Blood Demon Art, the music, the pacing, the gorgeous visuals, it all culminates in a feast for the eyes that cemented this anime as a modern classic in the making.
“Fire Force” (2019)
The dude was setting children on fire and made Tamaki cry – he was well-deserving of a flaming foot to the face! Following his reveal as a servant of the Evangelist, as well as an all-around psycho with an unhealthy obsession with setting fire to the whole world, Rekka found himself earning the wrath of the devil, whose flame-filled footwork proceeded to kick the crap out of his starry-eyed psychosis. While we never get to see whose fire truly burned hotter thanks to Rekka’s assassination at the hands of the Knights of the Ashen Flame, at least this burnout between two Fire Force officers was well and truly lit.
“One Piece” (1999-)
That’s right, the same fight made the list two years in a row, but what else do you expect from the Straw Hat Captain? Considering the reveal of Snakeman didn’t occur until this year, we’re more than happy to include it! Despite being put through the absolute ringer by the son of Big Mom, Luffy shows he has one last trick up his sleeve – a new version of Gear Fourth that proves potent enough to even make the donut-loving terror of the seas finally run out of gas and blackout. To say this was a hard-fought victory is a colossal understatement, concluding with Katakuri receiving one hell of a snakebite!
“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (2018-)
It’s the final battle with so many twist and turns, we won’t soon forget it! The battle for the arrow finally comes to a close as the surviving members of Bucciarati’s crew desperately struggle to take out the fish-net wearing, time-erasing mafia boss before he flees for good. While it’s great to see Trish finally stand up to her father and derail his plans, nothing compares to the Jo-gasmic moment when Giorno claims the power of the arrow for himself, leading to the reveal of Gold Experience Requiem – a Stand of such god-tier power that it not only does it Muda King Crimson out of existence, but sends Diavolo into an never-ending cycle of death and rebirth.
Before we reveal our number anime battle of the year, here are a few honourable mentions!
Natsu vs. Zeref
“Fairy Tail” (2009-)
The Four Cardinal Heroes vs. Pope
“The Rising of the Shield Hero” (2019)
Ash vs. Kukui
“Pokémon” (1997-)
Saitama vs. Suiryu
“One Punch Man” (2015-19)
Boruto & Shinki vs. Urashiki
“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” (2017-)
“Black Clover” (2017-)
And just when you thought the battle with the Wizard King and the Leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun was the best this fantasy shounen could give us this year, along comes this handicap match that served as the apex of the elf convergence arc. With so many allies under the control of the long-eared insurgents, it falls to the Clover Kingdom’s most famous rivals to band together in order to stop the diminished yet deadly Licht. And they almost accomplished it by unleashing the full force of Spirit Dive and Black Asta in equal succession, resulting in an aerial assault that’s borderline dazzling!
