Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Fall 2019
VOICE OVER: Ashley Bowman WRITTEN BY: Alex Crilly-Mckean
With the new year on the horizon, it's time to see if 2019 has saved the best for last. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Fall 2019.

For this list, we'll be looking at the new anime releases set for the coming season. As always, new properties and sequel series are all fair game. So quit clearing up those leaves and get ready for quite a rocking anime line up!

#10: “Beastars” (2019)

Before you ask, no, this isn’t the apex of furry culture. It’s actually an adaption of a very well-regarded manga that uses anthroponomic animals as social commentary, only here it’s between carnivores and herbivores. Basically it’s anime’s answer to Zootopia, with a much darker edge, since following the murder of a student, an academy is thrown into chaos as racial tensions start to boil over, all the while a complex love story between our leads (who happen to be a wolf and bunny) lurks at its centre. Who knows, maybe this one will surprise us all with a good old fashioned whodunnit. Only with way more fur.

#9: “Hi Score Girl” Season Two (2019)

A hidden gem lurking in the primordial soup that is Netflix’s anime collection. Don’t let the CGI fool you, this series is both a charming romance as well as a love letter to video game culture. As Haruo’s coming of age story continues, he’s found himself in that awkward position every video game protagonist finds himself in – he’s got two powerful ladies looking to earn his affection, and he has no idea what to do about it. All we can hope is that the second season not only brings us more Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat references, but also reveals which adorable waifu walks away the winner. Ono or Hidaka? Place your bets!

#8: “Chihayafuru” Season Three (2019)

Another underrated hit, one that has managed to play its way through to a third season and continues to charm and entice fans along the way, mainly due to its determined lead and her infatuation with culturally significant game of kurata. Carrying over from last time, we can hopefully expect to see the members of the kurata club try and up their skills even further, as well as the elevation of the low-key romances surrounding Chihaya. If you’re looking for something new, sweet and a bit of a slow-burner, pick up a card and get ready to play!

#7: “We Never Learn” Season Two (2019)

That’s right, the second season for a show that came out in Spring of this year is already here, which is fine by us, because We Never Learn was an exceptional romantic comedy with some of the best waifus we have ever seen. With the likes of Fumino, Riku and Urata now very much aware of their feelings towards their unlikely mentor, the comedic possibilities are infinite, not to mention the awkwardness of them discovering they’re all caught in a three-way race to make the airheaded student recognize their affections. We can’t wait.

#6: “Psycho-Pass 3” (2019)

The first season was an exquisite example of a neo noir, sci-fi thrill-ride that dove deep into the darkest parts of the human psyche. The second season…did not. Now the Enforcers are back again to dispense justice in a world where your very emotions can label you a criminal, only now the adorable Akane has seemingly left the building, leaving the stage open for a new duo to try their luck at balancing their duty and morality against the clinical laws of the Sibyl System. Let’s hope they manage to leave the right kind of impression.

#5: “Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia” (2019)

It just wouldn’t be the status quo if we didn’t have yet another entry to the ever expanding Fate-verse, and from the looks of things this one is going to be a bit more explosive than the rest. Whether it’s a jumping on point for newcomers or you need to read up on the entire canon to understand what’s going on remains to be seen, but what we do know is that it’s set during the last singularity, and that some version of Gilgamesh stands at the centre of the conflict. That guy just refuses to stay down.

#4: “Food Wars! The Fourth Plate” (2019)

All good things must come to an end, even exquisite culinary battles that hold the fate of all restaurants. With the clash with Central reaching boiling point, it falls to Soma, Erina and the rest of the rebels to take on the top echelons of the Elite Ten in order to prove that everyone’s way of cooking has merit. This isn’t going to be easy however, since the fiery diner boy has to once again take up arms against the White Knight of the Dining Table. We’re already drooling just thinking about the delicacies they’re bound to cook up!

#3: “The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods” (2019)

Demons are running amok, the heavens are set to tear open, and the only thing protecting the people are seven of the most powerful misfit knights to ever wield a sword. Following their battle against the Ten Commandments, Meliodas and the rest not only have to deal with the fallout of him slowly losing more and more of his humanity, but also deal with Elizabeth’s angelic origins, the return of the Goddess race, Diane’s missing memory, and about a million other plot points that are bound to come to a head. Look, just give us more Escanor and we’ll be very happy!

#2: “Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld” (2019)

After that cliffhanger of an ending, how could we not be hyped for the conclusion of what just might be SAO’s best outing. And that’s saying something! With Underworld plunged into darkness, Eugeo cut in half and the Administrator supposedly dead, it falls to Kirito, Asuna and Alice in order to stop an oncoming cataclysm before yet another virtual reality world is wiped out. As long as it keeps up the excellent level of animation, batshit insane moments and plenty of solid action, this should make for quite the roller-coaster.

#1: “My Hero Academia” Season Four (2019)

You knew it was coming. Every year, this shounen juggernaut continues to excel with breath-taking fight scenes, endearingly layered characters, as well as a refreshing reminder on just how many shapes the superhero genre can take. With the landscape of Hero Society radically changed following All Might’s retirement, it falls to Midoriya and the rest of Class 1-A to live up to their potential. Of course, with the introduction of the Big Three and the looming threat of newcomer villain Overhaul, it’s not going to be easy.
