10 Games With The DEEPEST Character Creation

Playing is great, but creating is an entirely different and fun adventure! Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we countdown our picks for the Top 10 Creation Video Games. For this list, we've selected the best titles that mandate strong creativity and imagination on the part of players in order for them to fully appreciate, partake in, or complete thegame. We're also excluding any Tycoon titles, that is, games that strongly emphasize construction and resource management skills, since we have an entirely separate list for those - so before you get destructive for not seeing your favorite theme park or city creator games on this list, be sure to check out that video.

#10: "Besiege" (2015)

Staged in a medieval setting, this game allows players to build far-out mobile engines of war that then played out against enemy fortresses and armies. We know, cannons and catapults, seriously? No, no, no, while those machines are indeed buildable, the fun in "Besiege" doesn't end with flinging rocks around. With its customization tools permitting users to engineer any kind of kooky killing machine they can dream-up, and we do mean any kind, all the flattening and flame-throwing fun may actually come secondary to building. Filled with blood-bursting gore fused with twisted comical fun, this game makes "Angry Birds" look even more like child's play.

#9: "The Movies" (2005)

For those of you dreaming to be the next Walt Disney, or Steven Spielberg, or both, seriously need to get your hands on this game. Taking on the role of a major studio mogul, "The Movies" gives you complete control of the studio's design and the production of its films. This means you get to choose the actors, direct the action, design the sets, the sounds, the whole nine yards. Though the online features for the gamehave since been shut down, "The Movies" have left quite the lasting legacy in the genre, with its software tools and gimmicks still used to create machinima videos.

#8: "Spore" (2008)

A much hyped release from the developers that brought us every "Sim" title, the god game known as "Spore" was an entirely new and out-of-this-world animal. Deriving its multi-genre concept from a variety of successful "Sim" games, "Spore" was primarily an RPG meshed with an RTS. In the game, players follow and manipulate the development of a several alien races, witnessing them evolve from their microorganism origins to full-fledged intelligent creatures. The creation aspect here comes from how you can design your creature from scratch before setting it on the path of evolution. How’s that for intelligent design?

#7: "Project Spark" (2014)

Ex Telltale Devs Are Making a Secret Project

Based on the Kodu Game Lab software from Microsoft, this dreamscape of endless possibilities is all about the imagining worlds and bringing them to life. Released exclusively for Microsoft platforms, "Project Spark" is less a game and more of a digital canvas where users can create their own mini or full-length games and machinima movies. A one-of-a-kind sandbox creation game, players can opt to start designing from pre-packaged templates or with a completely blank plain. From there, they proceed to designing every detail of their world's environment, from characters, to landscapes, to obstacle placements, and even event triggers, "Project Spark" gives its dreamers absolute power.

#6: "Scribblenauts" series (2009-)

Imagine a game where constructing or spawning something was as simple as spelling the word. Brought to us by the developers of the equally kid-friendly "Drawn to Life" games, this side-scrolling adventure has players in control of a boy with a magical notebook that makes written words come to life. An immense success with critics and gamers of all ages, "Scribblenauts" is now a series of five superb games, with one sequel featuring major characters from the DC Comics Universe. Fun, crafty, and educational, this series is a gorgeous modern gem for both the creation and child-suitable genres that have been painfully lacking in gaming.

#5: "Terraria" (2011)

The firstborn brainchild of indie developer "Re-Logic", this sandbox puts players on an exploration journey in the mysterious titular land, where all its treasures are yours to collect, shape, defend, and have fun with. In the game, players dig and search for resources and valuables that they use to craft over 300 varieties of weapons, not to mention the infinite structures that can be born from your imagination. With over 12 million copies sold, co-designer Andrew Spinks has announced the imminent arrival of two sequels, one of which will feature a new and separate narrative in the world.

#4: "LittleBigPlanet" series (2008-)

A Playstation exclusive title, "LittleBigPlanet", or, LBP, follows the adventures of a player-created sackperson as they run through a whimsical world that you'll swear Tim Burton had some input in. Putting emphasis on replay value and user-generated content, the tagline here is: "Play, Create, Share", as creating new characters, tools, and journeys with other players online is encouraged after a once-over on the main campaign. Generating two equally creative-filled sequels and five handheld spin-offs, it would appear that these sack dolls and their paper mache-esque planet will be around for imaginative gamers to toy around with for years to come.

#3: "Kerbal Space Program" (2015)

Here's a game where exclaiming "this isn't rocket science" isn't gonna fly, pun totally intended. In this game, players are in control of their own space program where they design, construct, test-launch, and fly their own spacecraft, while still bound by the laws of physics. Once you're past the atmosphere, you and your little kerbals are then given the chance to explore numerous celestial bodies. Aiming to achieve as much realism as possible, "Kerbal Space Program" has achieved a rare feat in gaming with attracting key members from the scientific community, including Space X's and Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk.

#2: "Super Mario Maker" (2015)

WatchMojo Lady Loses It Playing Super Mario Maker 2

Having tackled virtually every adventure possible, Nintendo opted to design a back-to-basics platformer for this particular Mario release, bringing nostalgic gamers back to the days of classic titles. As its name suggests, the innovation comes in the form of allowing players to customize each stage. This means: you decide how many boxes to break, where friends and foes pop up, the number of gold coins, the whole enchilada. Hilariously, this also means if you up and plummet down, you have only yourself to blame. Met with critical acclaim, especially for generating countless user courses online, it is easily one of Mario's most inventive wonder-works and a fine contemporary addition for creation games. Before we let our imaginations run wild with our #1 pick, let's take a look at a few honorable mentions: "Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts" (2008) "Trove" (2015) "Starbound" (2013) "Disney Infinity" series (2013-)

#1: "Minecraft" (2011)

Released in 2011, this sandbox title has players of all ages building virtually everything with virtual cubes. Everything from iconic buildings, to prominent locations, to maps from other game titles, and even amusement park rides, if it exists, it's bound to have a "Minecraft" counterpart. With over 70 million copies sold, it currently stands as the third best-selling video game of all time as well as PC gaming's best-selling title, hence its seat on the throne of our list.
