#10: Black Two-Piece Gown by Pucci (2011) Gwyneth Paltrow

This star is always at the forefront of new fashion trends, and the 2011 Emmys were no exception. On this occasion, she was ahead of the curve in a two-piece crop top and maxi skirt ensemble. The outfit was designed by Emilio Pucci and put Paltrow’s toned abs on display. Several years later, this style would become popular not only on the red carpet but as a street style around the world. As for Paltrow at the Emmys that year, she actually won an award for her guest appearance on “Glee.” Let’s go ahead add a second another award retroactively: “Most Fashion Forward.”

#9: Champagne Gown by Oscar de la Renta (2005) Mischa Barton

The 2005 Emmy Awards may have taken place over a decade ago, but this teen idol picked a timeless gown that wouldn’t look out of place even on today’s red carpets. The star of “The O.C.” was at the peak of her fame when she donned this champagne hued Oscar de la Renta dress that perfectly highlighted her figure. The spaghetti strap design was de rigueur at the time and showed off Barton’s California sunshine kissed shoulders. She kept the focus on the dress by wearing her hair pulled back with minimal makeup.

#8: Green Gown by Oscar de la Renta (2012) Allison Williams

When “Girls” debuted on HBO in 2012, it was unlike anything viewers had seen. The core cast earned near-instant fame; so when they appeared on the Emmy red carpet that year, all eyes were on them. Allison Williams, who plays Marnie on the show, wowed in a stunning jewel-toned green gown designed by Oscar de la Renta. The bodice was modern and sculptural, while the mermaid silhouette harkened back to more classic gown styles of old Hollywood. Her accompanying hair and makeup accentuated her youthful appearance.

#7: White & Black Gown by Donna Karan Atelier (2014) Lizzy Caplan

Lizzy Caplan may be better known for her comedic roles, but there was nothing funny about the stunning number she wore to the 2014 Emmy Awards. She chose a dramatic gown designed by Donna Karan Atelier that was mostly black with a white train. The halter style and side cutouts were extremely flattering and gave the impression of modernity mixed with classic design elements. Her pulled back chignon and black smokey eye added an extra pop to the look, making for an end result that wowed from head to toe.

#6: Metallic V-Neck Gown by Marc Jacobs (2015) Kerry Washington

The star of “Scandal” turned heads on the 2015 Emmy red carpet when she wore this metallic midi-length dress created by designer Marc Jacobs. Not just anyone could have pulled off this look, but Kerry Washington wore it with confidence and grace, shining as brightly as the outfit itself. The dress featured three quarter length sleeves and a plunging V-neck, as well as extra embellishments that emphasized the actress’s shoulders. Plus, the fact that the entire dress was slightly sheer gave it a chic chain-mail effect. But Washington was no stranger to making a red carpet splash: in 2012, she’d also dazzled in a Vivienne Westwood design; she’s truly a fashion force to be reckoned with.

#5: Strapless Peplum Gown by Atelier Versace (2009) January Jones

During the peak of “Mad Men” popularity, this female lead firmly established herself as a fashion icon when she appeared in an ultra-modern Atelier Versace gown at the 2009 Emmys. She may be used to wearing classic 1960s silhouettes on the show, but she chose to wear something entirely different for this red carpet event. The strapless, peplum-waisted bodice featured laser-cut elements as well as metallic piping. The following year when she was nominated for best actress, January Jones killed it again in a blue Versace gown.

#4: Gold & White Gown by Chanel (2004) Jennifer Aniston

No stranger to making red carpet appearances, this “Friends” star had one of her best fashion moments the same year the show came to a close. Jennifer Aniston is known for her countless fashion hits, but this simple Chanel dress is without a doubt one of the most memorable of her career. Walking the carpet with then-hubby Brad Pitt, she was the epitome of modern Hollywood glamor. Sometimes a great dress doesn’t have to be over the top, and the streamlined silhouette and subtle gold beading on this white gown is the perfect example.

#3: Shimmery Gown with Cap Sleeves by Reem Acra (2008) Olivia Wilde

The evening of the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2008 was a night for many stars to shine, and undoubtedly one of the best dressed of the night was the then-relative newcomer, Olivia Wilde. This renaissance style silhouette and cinched waist is flattering on almost any figure, but with her striking good looks, Wilde appeared both elegant and sultry in the Reem Acra design. The beaded cap sleeves added an extra element of sparkle, and the gown’s shimmery material meant its wearer was turning heads wherever she went.

#2: Strapless White Gown by Chanel (2003) Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker has a few things in common with her most well known character, Carrie Bradshaw. For one, they can both be described as fashion mavens, something SJP proved when she donned this Chanel dress for the 2003 Emmy Awards. “Sex and the City’s” narrator definitely would have swooned over this frothy white design. Chanel has long been the epitome of high fashion, and it’s easy to see why - this dress used a classic strapless silhouette, which was modernized with ruching, and a beaded under layer that poked out from the bottom of the gown. Put it all together, and you have a look that would still garner praise on fashion blogs today. Before we unveil our number one pick, here are some honorable mentions: - Turquoise Gown by Armani (2000) Keri Russell - White Dress with Purple Accented Pattern by Chanel (2012) Emilia Clarke - Pale Pink Gown by Calvin Klein (2013) Rose Byrne

#1: Low-Cut Red Gown by Versace (2009) Blake Lively

This actress has become known for her ability to stun on the red carpet, especially when she’s wearing a dress to match. Blake Lively donned a crimson colored Versace gown in 2009, which just so happened to be almost the exact same shade as the carpet beneath her feet. The dress’ daring neckline and sequined accents made this star the center of attention and she made the perfect styling choice by opting for a high fish tail braid to complement the look. Though she has a habit of stealing the spotlight wherever she goes, Lively truly outdid herself with this number.
