Top 10 Funniest Kristen Wiig Bloopers

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the hilarious times the comedy superstar couldn’t keep it together on screen.
#10: Car Alarm
“Bridesmaids” (2011)
At the end of this hit ensemble comedy, Kristen Wiig and Chris O’Dowd finally end up together. The camera lingers on them as they share a romantic movie magic kiss outside the climactic wedding reception. It’s the culmination of the entire story. Everything has been leading up to this moment. Then a car alarm goes off. Anyone who saw the movie knows their chemistry is off the charts. But we didn’t expect it to move the earth like this. The take is ruined, but O’Dowd’s crude joke at the end is the perfect punctuation on the moment.
#9: Hitting Gal Gadot
“Wonder Woman 1984” (2020)
Kristen Wiig may not be a traditional choice for a superhero, or in this case, a supervillain, but she is one of the highlights of this “Wonder Woman” sequel. During a confrontation scene with Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot, Wiig goes in for what we can only assume was a choreographed and planned hit. Of course, it doesn’t go to plan. Wiig raises her hand and accidentally scratches Gadot’s face for real. She’s mortified, but Gadot is immediately cracking up. It’s that quick glimpse into the camera that seems to say “Am I getting fired?” that makes it even funnier.
#8: Jamie Dornan’s Giggle Fit
“Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” (2021)
No one does awkward buddy comedies like Kristen Wiig. She and Annie Mumolo star in this vacation movie as two middle-aged besties who decide to go on a vacation and quickly find themselves out of their depth. They cross paths with a charming and handsome villain played by Jamie Dornan. He ties them to a chair as his evil plot is revealed, but this blooper shows him in the middle of his villain monologue. Unfortunately, he can’t keep it together once he turns around and sees how the two have become entangled in their ropes. It takes Dornan a while to recover.
#7: Hollywood Dish with Scarlett Johansson
“Saturday Night Live” (1975-)
The great thing about “SNL” is that the nature of the show makes it so even the bloopers are broadcast. The cast of game improvisers and comedians just have to keep it going. Wiig and her frequent comedy partner, Bill Hader, starred in this 2010 parody of Hollywood newsmagazines. The two interview guest host Scarlett Johansson and turn up the physical comedy throughout. But once Hader does a spit take, pours his drink, and shoves a bowl over Wiig’s head, the whole thing goes off the rails. The camera remains frozen on them as they fight the urge to burst out laughing. They almost succeed. These two were always a treat together, because you knew one of them might make the other break.
#6: The Bird Bath
“Bridesmaids” (2011)
As co-writer and star, Kristen Wiig wasn’t just responsible for her own lines in “Bridesmaids.” She was also responsible for everyone else’s. So as she listens to acclaimed, Oscar-nominated actress Jill Clayburgh describe a particularly vulgar sex act, she seems suddenly struck by the realization that she’s responsible for this. She seems both humbled and embarrassed to have an actor of this stature saying this dialogue. Clayburgh’s response is so genuinely sweet. It’s clear she’s having a great time, and it’s also a bittersweet swan song for Clayburgh, as “Bridesmaids” was her last film performance.
#5: “Super Showcase Spokesmodels”
“Saturday Night Live” (1975-)
It was all downhill from Chicken Man. Host Maya Rudolph joins her former castmate in a sketch parodying a game show, where the two play bumbling German spokesmodels named Shonda and Vonda. The pair present a contestant with all the prizes she could’ve won. But once they start stumbling, the two can’t quite recover. And there’s still zany comedy with a golf cart to get through. It’s all a mess by the end, with Wiig, Rudolph, Bill Hader, and Vanessa Bayer fighting to keep their composure. We still don’t quite know if Wiig driving the golf cart into a major set piece was intentional, but it was the right choice.
#4: A Musical!
“Bridesmaids” (2011)
Movie sets can be boring. Actors in particular spend a lot of time just waiting for a take to start. While filming scenes as Annie in “Bridesmaids,” Wiig seems to lean into the boredom. She decides at one point to turn the movie into an impromptu musical. Even co-star Maya Rudolph joins in on the fun. Several scenes and outtakes see them making up musical numbers about anything from makeup to exercise to metabolism. Great, now we’re waiting for “Bridesmaids: The Musical.” We can’t wait to see the song that takes place in the bridal shop.
#3: “So Do You!”
“Bridesmaids” (2011)
Some of the funniest, and most crushing, scenes in this beloved comedy belong to Wiig and co-star Jon Hamm. As her handsome but callous friend with benefits, emphasis on the benefits part, Hamm was a great partner when it came to just riffing on a theme. That theme, of course, is him being a giant jerk. In their big fight scene, his character, Ted, mishears an insult. Hamm riffs on that mistake for an almost uncomfortably long time until even Wiig has to tap out. Who knew the “Mad Men” star could dig up so much comedy gold?
#2: Phone Calls with Bill Hader
“The Skeleton Twins” (2014)
In this underrated dramedy, the former “SNL” co-stars play estranged twins who come back together after years apart. But the heavy themes of the movie didn’t put a damper on their goofy antics. In a series of long and incredibly chaotic outtakes, the two improvise phone calls in front of the cameras. And we get the pleasure of watching Wiig and Hader bounce off each other effortlessly. In these three minutes of outtakes, the duo create more voices and insane original characters than should be humanly possible. It’s safe to say we’d watch an entire movie about Old Lady Freida.
#1: Steve Carell Meets His Match
“Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” (2013)
Brick Tamland is probably one of the most unhinged characters in movie comedies. Giving him a love interest was going to require an actor who could match Steve Carell’s mastery of nonsense, and Kristen Wiig fits the bill perfectly. She plays Chani Lastnamé, an eccentric cable news station employee. In this blooper, the two trade gibberish answers to what seem like their version of standard first date questions. One of Wiig’s ridiculous answers doesn’t just break Carell - it leaves him borderline despondent with laughter. We don’t know what “grim grom” is, but that’s the genius of it. No one does.
