Top 10 Funniest Mean Girls Bloopers

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at moments from the “Mean Girl” gag reel that are just “so fetch.”
#10: A Sweet Mistake
Cady tricks Regina into consuming high-calorie nutrition bars to sabotage and embarrass her. Disguised as a harmless snack, Regina falls for Cady’s diabolical scheme. As expected, the plan works to perfection, with Regina ending up on the wrong side of the weighing scale. Thanks to the magic of editing, most viewers missed a blooper hidden in plain sight. In the film, the scene cuts off right before Regina takes another bite of the bar. However, the gag reel reveals a funny moment with Rachel McAdams, who wasn’t quite able to finish her high-calorie treat.
#9: Loving the Job
Damian is undoubtedly among the most popular characters in the “Mean Girls” fandom. The character is known for his witty remarks and catty one-liners – and let's not forget all his iconic outfits! Much like his character, it looks like actor Daniel Franzese kept a witty and playful energy alive while filming. During what appears to be his last scene, Franzese has a final fourth-wall-breaking moment to confess just how much fun he had making the movie. Considering Damian’s role as arguably the film’s greatest source of comedy, all that shenanigans on set definitely paid off.
#8: A Case of the Giggles
Actors onscreen are usually blamed for messing up their takes, but sometimes the real culprits are those off-camera. While characters typically react to Gretchen’s eccentric behavior with awkward annoyance, it’s hard not to laugh at the things she says in real life. In this scene, she voices her horror at Cady’s interest in Regina’s ex-boyfriend. But in this blooper, it appears that Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried struggled to stay in character as their off-screen reactions cause Lacey Chabert to break, sending her into a fit of giggles. It’s too bad we don’t see her co-stars, but judging by Chabert’s inability to keep it together, it must’ve been an absolute riot.
#7: Peeping Mom
Nobody could have pulled off playing Regina’s “cool mom” like Amy Poehler. Incredibly inappropriate and desperate for approval, she allows her daughter to get away with things other parents would never even consider. Need proof? How about casually barging into Regina’s room while she’s hooking up with a guy!? It’s Poehler’s severe underreaction that truly sells the scene. However, as the gag reel shows, the actress wasn’t as always composed as you might think. While most of the take goes just like the film, Poehler lingers a bit longer in the blooper. Thrown off by a prop, her attempts to stay in character quickly break apart – along with the rest of the crew.
#6: Say What?
Loud, bold, and unapologetically herself, Janis is another one of “Mean Girls”’ breakout characters. With her sharp wit and way with words, she can get anyone to follow her lead. Her trademark little rants endeared her to many fans, but it did take Lizzy Caplan a few takes to deliver her lines. One of the film’s memorable moments is Janis convincing Cady to spy on Regina. However, even Caplan struggled through one particular scene, visibly confused about her dialogue before giving up altogether. In her defense, Janis’ powers of persuasion aren’t exactly about what she says but more about how she says it.
#5: Kiss & Slap
Gretchen’s odd romance with Jason is one of “Mean Girls”’ underrated arcs. Despite her clear interest in him, the latter often finds himself on the receiving end of some unexpected punishment. Case in point: when Cady walks in on the two making out, Gretchen covers it up with a smack to Jason’s face. The bloopers show us what happened next. Judging by his reaction, it looks like actor Daniel DeSanto didn’t see the slap coming. Lacey Chabert quickly apologizes, but DeSanto is a pretty good sport about it, lightening the moment with a humorous quip. [Insert SB: “Where’s my agent?”]
#4: Over or Underreaction?
The characters’ resentments spiral out by the film’s climax. Still, all’s well that ends well, as everybody reconciles and goes back to being friends. Cady hints at a new generation of Plastics emerging…before they’re seemingly run over by a bus! Of course, this turns out to be a joke. But if you thought that was funny, the bloopers will leave you gasping for air - much like Lindsay Lohan does in this outtake. We catch Damian’s reaction here as well, whose hilarious punchline causes a major spit-take from Lohan. In a film filled with comedic moments, the gag reel arguably provides fans with the biggest belly laugh.
#3: Brain Fade
A pivotal moment for Gretchen’s character is when she reaches her breaking point. Overwhelmed by Regina’s constant insults, Gretchen spills Regina’s dark secrets to Cady. In this behind-the-scenes footage, Lacey Chabert gets thrown off her delivery, which makes us wonder if filming in front of a green screen had anything to do with it. The actress constantly messes up her lines, but her cheerful, lighthearted attitude is fun to watch. To her credit, making sense of what Gretchen says isn’t the easiest thing to do. The way she switches in and out of character turns this blooper reel into something that’s both wholesome and amusing.
#2: Always in Character
As Gretchen breaks down the school’s social structure to Cady, Janis and Damian can be seen goofing around – a brief reminder of their refusal to play by the rules like everyone else. Janis’ rebellious nature and disregard for authority can be infectious, which may be why Lizzy Caplan stays in character even after the cameras stop rolling. Despite the director’s stern warnings, the actors keep the fun going. Caplan, in particular, goes all in, shouting out one of Janis’ memorable catchphrases. [Insert SB “Suck on that!”]. Though she’s seemingly lacking some professional courtesy in this instance, we give Caplan full points for nailing Janis’ rebellious spirit.
#1: “Do You Like It, Daddy?”
As Cady explains, Halloween in “Girl World” is the one night when someone can push the boundaries of their clothing choices. In true Regina George style, she dresses up as a seductive bunny. While her mother revels in Regina’s bold fashion statement, her poor dad’s reaction tells a different story. The gag reel offers a hilariously extended version, with Rachel McAdams and Amy Poehler diving all in to create some outrageous poses on the spot. The mother-daughter duo turns the scene into a delightful display of absurdist comedy. It’s impressive how, despite being a blooper, the footage could’ve easily been included in the film’s final cut.
