Most Populated Region in Scandinavia
Not only is Stockholm the most populated region in Scandinavia, but it is also the capital and largest city of its native Sweden. The 2.1 million people living within the metropolitan area of Stockholm are spread over two thousand five hundred square miles of land.
An Island City
The city itself is built across 14 islands that are joined by almost sixty bridges, and it is because of this that you are never far from the water when visiting Stockholm.
Famous for Clean Water and Green Parks
You’re also ensured fresh and clean air due to the abundance of green space. The lush and calm areas stand in contrast to the busy, metropolitan center of the city. In fact, Stockholm is famous for its parks and sparkling waters.
A Business and Cultural Center
Aside from being the home to the government and monarchy, Stockholm is well-known as a cultural and business center. In fact, millions of people visit the many museums in this city each year.
Rich History
Stockholm was founded around the year 1250, and as such is rich with history. The city’s architecture varies from traditional and vibrant to clean and modern. The Gamla Stan or Old Town is a great way to take a peek at history. Areas like Sergels Torg showcase more modern aspects of architecture and design.
Climate and Weather
Tourists will find that the city is easily traversed on foot, and many of its attractions are located within walking distance. Stockholm’s climate lends itself to walking tours as well, as temperatures there hover around 70°F in summer, and in the high 20s in winter.
The Stockholm Archipelago
Adjacent to the city you will find the Stockholm Archipelago. This is a large grouping of islands that lines the coast of the area. It is very popular to cruise between these islands, and boats are often found coasting through the waters.
A Beautiful Capital City
Lush green parks, historical sites and island jaunts are just a few of the attractions that make Stockholm one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world.
