Top 10 Things We Need to See in Riverdale Season 3

Top 10 Things We Need to See in Riverdale Season 3
VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Savannah Sher
With season 3 coming back, these are the things we want to see! We definitely want to see a Sabrina crossover episode! You've probably heard about the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which was originally conceived as a companion show to “Riverdale.” Of course, this could have meant some amazing crossover content! We also want more time on minor characters.

#10: A New Mystery

Let’s be real, the mystery in Season 1 (who killed Jason Blossom and why?) was a little more compelling than the Black Hood plotline of Season 2. Now that the Black Hood has been unmasked, however, it’s pretty clear that we’re going to get a brand new whodunnit for the new season. At this point, it’s impossible to predict what direction the writers are going to take the story, but we’re hoping it’s something a little simpler, as opposed to the convoluted plotlines of the second season.

#9: Less of Archie's Organizations

Season 2 focused mainly on Archie attempting to track down the Black Hood to get revenge for the crimes he had committed in Riverdale. Archie, of course, couldn’t leave things to the authorities (which is fair because they were admittedly kinda useless), and created a citizen’s brigade of sorts: The Red Circle. Later renamed as The Dark Circle (yeah we know, real creative), these organizations took on different targets throughout the season, but were honestly kind of annoying. Let’s see them disbanded for good moving forward.

#8: A New Love for Kevin

Kevin was the first openly gay character in the Archie Comics, and his character on the show has become a fan favorite. Unfortunately, though, Kevin’s love life has encompassed disappointment after disappointment, and by the end of Season 2, it was left unclear what lay ahead for him romantically. We’d love to see things take a more positive turn for him and Moose, though we understand that Midge’s death could make the entire thing problematic. The show’s developer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, said of Kevin and Moose, “…I’m rooting for them. I hope it’s more than just a moment of passion.”

#7: A Sabrina Crossover Episode

You’ve probably heard about the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which was originally conceived as a companion show to “Riverdale.” Of course, this could have meant some amazing crossover content. However, the odds of this actually happening dropped significantly when the new “Sabrina” show was ordered straight to Netflix, rather than appearing on the CW. Regardless, executive producer Jon Goldwater said in 2018 that the shows were "two separate entities for right now," but "would love it if they could figure out a way to cross over."

#6: More Time on Minor Characters

We’re going to touch on this a little more later, but in the next season of “Riverdale,” we’d like to see more of a focus on the secondary characters in the younger set. Season 2 put a much bigger emphasis on the older generation of “Riverdale” residents, but in an ideal world we’d go back to basics and see more of people like Toni, Ethel, Reggie, Fangs, and Chuck. We’re definitely not sick of Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Cheryl by any means, but it seems clear that the new season needs some fresh faces.

#5: Resolution on Chic

One of the most contentious storylines introduced in “Riverdale’s” second season concerned Betty’s maybe brother, Chic. Whether you loved this plot or hated it, Chic took up much of the drama of Season 2, what with his murdering of strangers and the eventual reveal that he wasn’t actually related to the Coopers at all. His final appearance on the show came a few episodes before the season actually ended, and his fate what left somewhat ambiguous. To be honest, we’re hoping he isn’t a huge part of Season 3, but we’d like some closure on his story.

#4: More Real High School Situations

“Riverdale” isn’t exactly a show based in the real world, but we would argue that what the writers do best is represent issues that are relevant to modern teens while cranking up the drama in a way that fits the vibe of the show. Our favorite plotlines involve the students of RHS acting like normal teenagers, rather than the ones where they’re getting involved in mob conflicts and dealing with millionaires like Hiram Lodge. The show is at its best when it’s delivering content that real teens can actually relate to, and we’d love to see more of that in the new season.

#3: Bughead Forever

There are a lot of great couples to ship on this show (more on that later) but from the start, Betty and Jughead, affectionately known as Bughead, have been a fan favorite. Now that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have gone public with their real-life relationship, we’re crossing our fingers that their characters on the show can settle down a little and just revel in how in love they are. They have been on again and off again and dealt with more than their fair share of problems, but we know that they’re totally endgame. So, let’s just be happy, okay?

#2: Cheryl & Toni

Speaking of fan favorite couples, this was one that viewers couldn’t have possibly seen coming, but that totally knocked our socks off. Toni and Cheryl didn’t really have any interactions for much of the show’s run, but as soon as they encountered one another, things took off between them quickly. Fans were understandably furious when the “Choni” scenes were inexplicably cut from the musical episode, and it just goes to show how much viewers are rooting for these two. In Season 3, we know we’ll be seeing more of this new and exciting pairing.

#1: The Darkness Inside

As you may or may not have predicted, at the end of Season 2 Betty’s dad, Hal, was revealed to be the Black Hood (or at least one of them). His motivations were questionable, but this storyline was seemingly tied up in the final episodes. Hal is in prison now (and considering his actions, probably will be for the rest of the show’s run), but our question is how this will affect the Coopers, in particular Betty. Hal claims that the darkness that runs through his veins is present in her too, and we have a feeling this will play a part in the new seasons.
